Description
A grown up and tranquil place, Wagon Hill is perfect for a chilled getaway. Situated just 15 minutes drive from the "Les Plus Les beaux Villages" 13th Century town of Monflanquin and between the communes of Salles and Monsempron-Libos, which holds one of the largest markets in South West France every Thursday. Wagon Hill is a south facing two bedroomed ensuite modernised gite. Separated from owner's farmhouse by a large open tobacco barn and perched on top of rolling meadows, overlooking woods and surrounded by plum trees, it's easy to unwind and enjoy the quietness.Wagon Hill has been finished to a high standard and has a private pool (6mx3m) and private parking; an open plan sitting, dining room and well equipped modern kitchen with separate utility room and WC.
The gite benefits from Fibre WIFI, TV and Google home.
Outside the terrace has sun loungers, dining table and gas bbq, with incredible views to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. A large garden in which to potter and ponder or stare at the stars in a non-polluted sky.
All linen, towels, pool towels and hairdryers are supplied. The gite is a no pet and a strict non-smoking property.
Wagon Hill is 45 mins away from Bergerac airport; 1.5 hrs away from Toulouse airport and 2 hrs from Bordeaux airport. Driving from Calais, Roscoff and Cherbourg it’s a 9 hr drive.
How active you are is up to you, sitting in area of the 'Golden Triangle' the medieval Bastide towns of Monflanquin, Villeréal and Monpazier are a short drive and straying a little further you can kayak or boat trip on the Dordogne River. Local markets, night markets, brocantes, vineyards and restaurants are here to be discovered or you can chill by the pool, watching the deer, hare, birds of prey and our resident barn owl might even make an appearance. Within 20- 45 minutes away there yoga classes, Swedish massage, kayaking, and bbq courses, details of which will be sent to you; and we encourage early booking in high season to avoid disappointment.

By Nicola and Chris on 24-Aug-2025Do not know where to start with this immaculate Gite ! From the moment we arrived at 1am (sorry Brenda and Davey) a lovely welcome was upon us. Beautiful appointed Gite in a fantastic location, we enjoyed kayaking down the Dordogne, day market at Villereal and night market at Monflanquin back to Villereal for the most lovely coffee and pastry at Sucree, stayed for a couple of hours playing cards and reading to then hop across the square for cheese and wine at Vin Et Fromage (delicious) We visited Vignoble des Verdots for wine tasting and met Lucie who's English was better than our French and brought a few bottles...say no more You can do as little or as much as you wanted here. Suffice to say a lovely Gite and fantastic holiday.
Beautiful house to hotel standard, all you could ask for, Peaceful Location and good access to amenities
By Rob and Gabi on 16-Aug-2025Just got back from a very relaxing peaceful break at Wagon Hill. The house is kept to impeccable standard and has all that you could need to enjoy your holiday. The owners are on hand if required, very helpful however will give you privacy. Pool cleaned regularly and was very needed as the weather is consistently hot in this area. We Barbequed but also used the kitchen to cook, we lunched out and enjoyed a very French way of life. Cannot thank Brenda and David enough we are looking to book next year - this may have already become our 'happy place'
Fabulous Holiday Home with fantastic hosts
By Ella and Laurence on 19-Jul-2025We stayed for a week in this wonderful holiday house - it was immaculate, beautifully furnished and spotless. Brenda and David have thought of everything to make your stay relaxing and easy. There was a beautiful welcome pack. The beds were simply the best we have ever had in over thirty years holidaying in France. The open plan kitchen living area and both bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms were spacious and had everything you could need. It was so peaceful at night. Our hosts were available for tips such as some wonderful restaurants and a glorious night out at a night market in Monflanquin which was the highlight of the week there, such a fun night. Whilst they were on hand if needed, they also allowed us complete privacy to relax and enjoy the pool and wonderful view. Brenda and David are a lovely couple and it was such a pleasure to meet them both - they have made something special. We had such a great week, it was over too fast and we hope to return.
A beautiful,place to relax and unwind

The property was immaculate and the owners so friendly and attentive, they worked hard to make sure that the accommodation was presented at its best at all times. Unspoilt views around, so quiet and at night just the sounds of crickets in the adjacent field and owls hooting. The pool was an absolute god send as we were blessed with gorgeous weather so this was an added bonus and kept clean by the owners on a daily basis. We were afforded our own privacy at all times but if we needed help or advice the owners were on hand to offer it. A truly wonderful summer holiday. A wonderful place to stay
By Janet and Mark on 14-Jun-2025It's the second time we've stayed at Wagon Hill. We enjoyed our stay so much last year we came back for another visit. It is so comfortable and so well thought out throughout with all the superb furnishings and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. So much care has been taken to ensure you have what you need and some things you haven't even thought of. Lovely views from the patio, watching the hare and birds. Brenda and David are a lovely couple, welcoming, just generally nice. Highly recommend. Thankyou Brenda and David. See you again.

More than Perfect
By Sara & Paul Harrison on 28-Jun-2025An absolute hidden gem of a Gite with an idyllic view over the countryside. Brenda and Davy are the perfect hosts, very warm and Friendly. Always on hand if you need anything but also happy to leave you be if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet. The Gite is immaculate along with higher then the usual 'Gite' standard linen, towels etc (which somehow make all the difference and add that bit of luxury). Monflanquin and Villereal are close by with lots of lovely places to eat. The day markets there are also worth a visit, along with the night markets if you're lucky enough to be staying when they're on and fancy a bit of French Culture. The canoeing down the Dordogne is a must. Or, if you fancy venturing further afield it's an easy car or train journey to Bordeaux or Toulouse. Can't rate this Gite highly enough, mainly due to the hosts and Brenda's excellent eye for detail (even the small things like having a plug near a mirror :-) and fly screens on the outside of the windows so you can actually open a window while showering and not worry about flies). If you're looking for a Gite in a tranquil setting but easy reaching distance of local amenities and villages, this is the place to be.
