The Domaine

We settled on this five-hectare Domaine in 2007. Once a grand farm, the original buildings 'granges' have been tastefully converted. The original water pump and bread oven are still present. Located at the end of a cul-de-sac, twelve gîtes have been built, creating the charm of a small, friendly hamlet. The gîtes each have a large garden with a swimming pool and natural boundaries. Mature vegetation ensures plenty of privacy.

Le Séquoia - our lovely house

Our house, Le Séquoia, is surrounded by countryside and forest, with the beautifully restored Château Talleyrand-Périgord visible in the distance. The spacious living room with open kitchen and wood-burning stove offers a warm welcome. Trees and the partially covered terrace provide shade on hot days.

After a day in the countryside and enjoying the French outdoors, you’ll feel pleasantly drowsy. Sleep well in one of the four bedrooms (9 beds); shutters keep the house cool and the mosquitoes out.
In the village, you’ll find a large Intermarché supermarket, as well as many small local shops and a market every Monday.
Not in the mood to cook? In Chalais and the surrounding area, you’ll find numerous cozy restaurants—some with international cuisine, but the regional fare is also well represented.

You can walk (approx. 15 minutes) or cycle to your nearest town, Chalais. With the car, it will take approximately 5 minutes.

Chalais has a railway station with trains running between Angoulême, Coutras and Bordeaux. Angouleme station, 45 minutes’ drive away, is where the TGV gets you to Paris in less than 2 hours.

The Charente region is known for its excellent climate, only beaten in France by the south coast! Local wine-tasting tours can be enjoyed, tasting the local Pineau, various red, white, and sparkling wines. We can recommend a few. And then there is Cognac.......

The region benefits from beautiful undulating hills and valleys, pretty little villages & market towns, and local freshwater lakes with sandy beaches (Etang Vallier, Aubeterre sur Dronne, St Aulaye ) dotted around the area - all within a short drive from the Domaine. During high season, you can enjoy various evening markets, live music, etc.

A 13-minute drive will bring you to the Circuit de Haute Saintonge - famous for its motorsports & bike racing as well as go-karting. Kayaking can be arranged in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne or Parcoul, a great outing with kids too.

Further afield: - visit the bustling cosmopolitan city of Bordeaux (1 hour away) and wine town St Emillion (50 minutes) - the perfect day trip, a true paradise for wine connoisseurs.

The beaches of the Atlantic (Royan, St Palais sur Mer, St Georges de Didonne) are approximately. 90 minutes drive away. It takes approx. 2 hours to visit La Rochelle.

Distances (by car) to wedding locations/venues in the area: Chateau de Valouze: 18 min (18km), Aubeterre sur Dronne: 15 min (14 km), Manoir de Longeveau: 21 min (20 km), Chateau Mas de Montet: 22 min (20km), Chateau de Lerse: 24 min (25km).

Le Séquoia is fully equipped. In addition to a well-stocked kitchen, you’ll find stacks of books (including regional information), games, a chest full of toys, tennis rackets, and more. Of course, there’s Wi-Fi and Chromecast if you want to relax in front of the TV.
Sporty guests can enjoy a game of tennis on one of the Domaine’s courts. There’s also a jeu de boules court and a large (football) field for all kinds of activities.


The living room has air conditioning. The house features two bathrooms with a shower and toilet, and one bathroom with a bathtub.
Outside the high season, the evenings can be cool—we’ll make sure there's a stack of firewood ready for you!

Fridays or Sundays are preferred arrival days, your trip will be less stressful if you avoid the busy 'black' Saturdays. You can arrive anytime you like.

Upon booking you will be provided with full information on getting to Le Séquioa and codes to access the Domaine and the house.

50% payment up front (payment due within 1 week after booking) and 50% payment 8 weeks before arrival date (+deposit).

Minimum stay of 7 nights is applicable in high season 1 July - 31 August.
