Cottage in south west France, near Duras, Aquitaine, France. lovingly restored, set in private garden overlooking the picturesque Dropt Valley. 4 kilometres from the Dordogne.Whether you are looking for a romantic setting, a base for sightseeing or a lovely situation where you can relax by the pool, Les Costes fits the bill. Surrounded by beautiful countryside within easy reach of picturesque villages many housing colourful markets and providing a variety of restaurants.
Situated in a small tranquil hamlet of just 6 houses on a no through lane overlooking the picturesque Dropt Valley this lovely stone cottage is ideally located between Eymet, a 13th century bastide town in the Dordogne and Duras with its beautiful chateau in the Lot and Garonne.
The cottage is set in a private garden, with private terrace where you can eat al fresco. There are table, chairs and sun recliners where you can relax amongst the lilac and various fruit trees which not only provide a lovely natural shade but where you are welcome to enjoy the fruits namely, cherries, figs, plums and apples as they ripen.
The pool is occasionally used by us Yvonne and Paul (although we have no need to be in the pool whilst you are using it) and around the pool we provide sunbeds, tables and chairs exclusively for your use. Bicycles are available so that you can enjoy and explore the Dropt valley and the vineyards/area.
If you don't know this area you will be surprised at how many beautiful medieval villages and towns are dotted around many hosting jazz and medieval festivals. Leave ReviewAbsolutely wonderful
By Claire and Tom Storey on 20-Sep-2025We had the most wonderful week stay at the cottage, hidden away on a no through road in the beautiful countryside of the Dordogne department. The hosts Yvonne and Paul are the most delightful couple and are on site should you need anything but they are discreet. We were invited to have an aperitif with them which was a lovely touch and we enjoyed seeing their amazing home which they converted along with local artisans from an old stone tobacco drying barn. The cottage itself is amazingly large and very well equipped and clean. You are able to explore the land owned by Yvonne and Paul and listen and watch the chickens and other bird life. We visited in September and the weather was unseasonably cold so we were not able to enjoy the pool. Next time hopefully! It is a perfect location to visit local and further afield attractions. Well worth a visit are the Dunes Du Pilat and Teich Bird Sanctuary on the West Coast. Eymet and Lac de L'escourou. The beautiful villages and towns of Eymet, La Sauvetat du Dropt and Duras are also worth a visit. We hope to stay here again in the summer months. You will not be disappointed.
Lovely peaceful place to stay
By Kathryn Thomas on 23-Aug-2025Hi, with reference to our recent visit to France staying at a Gitte owned by Paul & Yvonne Clark. They could not have been more helpful, especially on directions to find their home after we got well & truly lost. The Gitte is superb, very spacious, clean & tidy. Due to the weather, we only managed to get in the pool a couple of times, it was great I would fully recommend this property for a relaxing holiday in France. Kind regards Mike & Kathryn Thomas
Relaxing
By Tina Randall on 09-Aug-2025The cottage was fantastic everything we needed and the pool is one of the best we have been to. Yvonne and Paul are super hosts. Very welcoming genuine people. The cottage is only 10 mins away from two lovely towns. Restaurants.bars and supermarkets. Couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Yvonne and Paul
A wonderful place to stay
By Andrew and Jean Boyd on 26-Jul-2025Such a great place to stay. Yvonne and Paul were great hospitable hosts - at hand if needed, but also conscious of giving you space. The cottage was the best we've stayed in - peaceful and ideally located for exploring around the area, has a well equipped kitchen and a lovely pool to relax in. In our opinion, 5 Stars all round.
Wonderful stay
By Louise & Peter on 19-Jul-2025The cottage lacked nothing and it was lovely having our own patio and bbq. Peaceful quiet area and yet close enough to visit vineyards, chateaux and pretty villages. Super pool that we were allowed to use and our hosts very warm and friendly. Highly recommend a stay here.
7th to 21st June 2025
By Deborah Gannon on 07-Jun-2025We were made very welcome and the cottage had everything that we needed. Lots of little details made it very homely. The use of the pool was an added bonus as the temperatures started to rise while we were there. The quiet, private and remote aspect was just what we needed to de-stress and unwind The local towns and villages were 10 - 20 minute drive so only a short car journey. Paul and Yvonne made us feel like friends. Thank you
