If, like us, you want a peaceful and relaxing break in rural France, this is a perfect place. The gite is spacious and well equipped and next door to the owners' beautiful house. Yvonne and Paul were lovely friendly hosts, happy to give advice on places to eat and visit. We really liked Le Camelia in Auriac and ate their twice. We also made the 15 minute drive to Eymet a few times where there are lots of restaurants and bars. Although the weather when we were there was pretty wet we still got out and about. We particularly liked Monpazier (we recommend a visit to Biere de la Bastide) and Issigeac (the market is on Sunday). There are also suggested walks available in the gite and we did one around the Lac du Saut du Loup near Miramont de Guyenne. We would recommend it. And finally for any fellow animal lovers, Yvonne and Paul have 2 beautiful cats and a lovely donkey who does enjoy a stroke.
The cottage was beautifully appointed with everything we needed for our stay. The wine, milk, cheese and fresh eggs were a perfect welcome. Cold nights were kept at bay with efficient heating, sunny days were spent having breakfast in the pretty garden. Great location between Eymet with its mediaeval Bastide and Duras with its imposing Chateau. Lots of restaurants in both towns and the quaint village of Isseagac was well worth visiting on a Sunday for the market and cobbled streets. Our hosts Yvonne and Paul were most welcoming and full of information and advice. Thoroughly recommended.
We had a fabulous week at Les Costes. The cottage was cosy, clean and comfortable and fully equipped with everything we needed (including the most enormous fig tree in the front garden which produced the tastiest figs we have ever eaten). Our location was perfectly based, in beautiful surroundings (sunflowers and vine yards everywhere) with the bluest sky you could imagine. We enjoyed a day out in Bergerac, visited the local castle in Duras and had a tour at the local chocolate factory which was interesting and the chocolate tasted divine! Yvonne and Paul were impeccable hosts and I would highly recommend a stay at their beautiful cottage. I hope we can go again soon!
