Overview
Description
Beauthorn Coach House and Beauthorn Cottage are situated in large gardens that run directly down to the lakeshore with its own private beach, jetty and what is reputed to be the oldest stone built boathouse on the lake. It’s an ideal spot from which to swim, fish, kayak and canoe. Basically, if you want to “mess around on the water” this is the place for you!Bring your own canoe/kayak/paddle board or boat to be moored here. But Please note. Boats need to be launched elsewhere unless they can be physically carried down a hill to the beach.
The 2 bedroomed converted Coach House sleeps 4 and is a very popular choice as it enjoys the better views over Lake Ullswater and has its own wrap around balcony with beautiful views over the lake and fells.
The 2 bedroomed Cottage also sleeps 4 and is the larger of the two with more space, a wood burning stove and is an ideal family choice with its Kitchen/Diner and private decked terrace area outside. Both properties offer cosy and comfortable, traditional holiday accommodation. You will find more contemporary and well appointed options but not with lake frontage and their own beach and jetty to admire the views and enjoy all the lake has to offer.
BEAUTHORN COACH HOUSE: Upstairs hosts a double bedroom, fitted and equipped kitchen and a separate living room with lake views and access to the dual aspect balcony overlooking Lake Ullswater. Downstairs comprises of a twin bedroom, small shower room and WC.
BEAUTHORN COTTAGE: Downstairs there is a sitting room with wood burner, bathroom and Kitchen/diner. Upstairs are a double and twin bedrooms with vanity sink units and a separate WC.

Leave ReviewLove to Swim SUP or Kayak from the cottage
By Guest from Inverurie on 19-Oct-2025We love being able to go for a swim, SUP or kayak from the cottage, Ullswater is so beautiful, peaceful and there's many birds to be seen as you enjoy the lake. Its wonderful. The cottage has a kitchen with good facilities and a table that the family can eat their meals around. There's washing and drying facilities and a handy place to store our bikes. The stove is a cosy treat for an autumn holiday. The WiFi is really patchy so if this is "make or break" for a happy holiday bear it in mind, if you can survive without for the week then this place is absolutely wonderful. We love it and have returned because of that. Would Recommend: Yes Tips for other travellers Aira force waterfall is a good sight to see, and the walk can be extended to Gowbarrow Hill with brilliant Ullswater views in fine weather. Swimming or other water sport in Ullswater is wonderful. The Ullswater "steamer" boat trips are a grand way to spend half a day, this can be combined with cycling round the lake (they take bikes on some of the boats, we turned up and went, but you may wish to check in advance). A day or in Keswick shopping and Pencil museum are great. Pooley Bridge is a nice place to spend a few hours, cute little shops, bookshop and pub. Carlise is an easy day trip with plenty to see the Cathedral, a brilliant second hand bookshop and Red Herring escape rooms, which was a great place to have fun for an hour, the family really enjoyed the Sure-Lock Holmes room - challenging and well thought out. Would recommend.
Prime Location on the lake
By Jackson on 28-Sep-2022Prime location with the most beautiful views and the lake at the bottom of the garden. We come here every year and use this as a base for days out on the water with the boat, hiking the fells and walking the trails. The cottage is dog friendly (which is the most important aspect for us) and is conveniently located to reach Glenridding or Pooley bridge
Fantastic Holiday
By Meek on 15-Jun-2018Fantastic holiday We stayed at the cottage last week and had the most amazing holiday, the cottage was very clean and comfortable and the surroundings were stunning, we spent most nights sitting down by the lake, we couldn't have wished for better, thank you Greta for making us feel so welcome we will definitely be returning again next year - David & Shary Meek.
