OCTOBER HALF TERM ON SPECIAL OFFER!"To call Sampsons Cave majestic is an understatement. The house itself is so homely it made us dream of a different life. We had some of the best days of our lives here” January 2025 Air BnB".
Sleeping up to 12 guests, Sampsons is a beautiful 7 bedroom house set on a private Cumbrian Estate on the edge of the River Eden in this glorious unspoiled valley. With a huge open plan kitchen and family sized AGA, this much loved home is the perfect base from which to enjoy the very best of Cumbria and it's local produce.
Reached by a private lane, the only sound is the splash of trout in the river or the occasional steam train on the nearby Settle-Carlisle line. Ideal for family and friends, children can explore freely whilst you relax on the squishy sofas in the spacious living room by the huge open fire. There are much loved antiques, books galore and pale wooden floors with brightly covered kilims. Seagrass carpets lead up to the bedrooms which are all individual, full of light and have views across the surrounding fells. No fighting for the views as all the rooms have them! Leave ReviewVery comfortable and spacious house.
By Jackie Price on 05-Sep-2025A very comfortable and spacious house. Well equipped. Beautiful outlook Tips for other travellers We visited Lowther castle, where the adventure playground was a big hit with the kids, and the grounds are pretty. Nice cafe there for lunch and extensive walks available in the estate and beyond. The castle, stately home really, is a ruin in the process of having some maintenance done. Some of our party enjoyed a visit to Brampton, which looked quite historic and interesting.

We just love how ridiculously at home we feel in your lovely house
By Diana Bromley on 23-Apr-2025This was our second stay. We are two families with three dogs travelling from northern Scotland, south Wales and East Sussex to meet up. We just love how ridiculously “at home” we feel in your lovely house. The Eden Valley is blissfully undiscovered. For those that enjoy peaceful walking it is a beautiful and serene destination,

A Magical Experience
By Hilary Boardman on 30-Dec-2024As you drive down into the valley and see the house for the first time you realise this is a rather special place. Surrounded by meadows, woods and a short walk to the river, all around is space and nature. The house nestles perfectly into the valley and is so welcoming with so many things to delight. We spent Christmas here and it was a magical experience. Thank you to Lorraine for making so comfortable and enjoyable.
