Lovely comfortable property, great location.

By Jane Baxter on 04-Aug-2025

Comfortable converted chapel, plenty of room for 2 of us and our 2 grandchildren, aged 2 and 5. 2 spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen, with oven, hob and microwave, large fridge freezer. and large dining table with 6 chairs. 2 large comfortable settees, large smart TV and good Wifi. The absence of a garden was compensated by a lovely large childrens' playground next door but one. About 12 minutes walk from the vast Black Rock beach, which is clean and little used. On the way to the beach after 5 minutes is the Black Rock Beach Club, which is friendly and welcoming, providing a large food and drinks menu. The property is about 5 minutes drive from Porthmadog town centre. A very enjoyable stay, many thanks to the owner Alan, who we didn't meet but was very friendly and helpful in our communications.

Great cottage close to dog friendly beach

By Amanda Cheadle on 20-Jul-2020

A spacious, comfortable, well-equipped cottage in perfect proximity to the beach. We stayed with our adult children and dogs. Walkies on the beach were great. Appreciated the neighbouring convenience store and great chippy. Short drive to criccieth, where we saw porpoises - a highlight of our trip. As was the take away from the nearby smokehouse. Great views from the front, and a quiet road. Recommend it.

Wonderful stay!!

By Katie on 28-Mar-2016

My friend and I stayed at the cottage for 3 nights over the Easter weekend with our 3 boys aged 7-9. Prior to our arrival Alan was extremely helpful and was happy to answer any questions I had. Firstly, the cottage is well renovated and spacious. The downstairs is open plan with 2 sofas, a tv, a dining table and a well equipped kitchen. Upstairs was a large double bedroom, a second bedroom with 3 single beds and a bathroom. There were games and books, and even things like tea towels were supplied- the little things make a difference! The electricity meter uses £1 & £2 coins, and given we had a cold weekend I was worried we'd spend a fortune keeping the cottage heated but actually the heaters were really effective so had nothing to worry about - I think we'd spent £23 over the weekend which we both thought was reasonable. Secondly it is in a fantastic location, just minutes from the centre of Porthmadog where there are lots of shops including supermarkets, there is a spar to the right, and a small park to the left both within a minutes walk. Directly by the cottage is beach road that leads to the beach which was lovely and clean - within 10 mins walk I would say but you can drive onto it. Halfway down the road is a pub, which wasn't much to look at and was a bit dated but the food was good - huge portions and reasonably priced. There is a haven site nearby which you can buy a day pass for but was full for the weekend so you'd probably need to book in advance. There are lots of activities in the area - we used the local leisure centre which was 10 mins from the cottage. Then we went quad biking (15 mins from cottage) which was so much fun! Also took a drive to Canaerfon castle, and into the Menai straits where we had a rib ride - another fantastic experience I highly recommend! Overall we had a brilliant weekend, couldn't fault the accommodation especially for the price we paid, and will definitely recommend to friends! 03/28/2016 at 10:17 PM

clean, roomy and good facilities

By Chloe on 29-Apr-2016

We have just come back from a holiday at Gest Melyn. Everything was clean and as explained on arrival. All the facilities worked well. We had an issue with the shower and within a couple of hours somebody was down to fit a new one for us. The location is perfect with easy distance from the beach without being near the hussle and bussle of the beach. A great amount of space and beds available to sleep in and a good range of kitchen facilities and utensils. Would definitely go back again. Thanks for a great holiday. X

Superb cottage close to the beach.

By harper on 21-Feb-2017

Left on Feb 21, 2017 for a stay in Mar 2017 This is the second time we have stayed at this cottage in February. The cottage is dog friendly and Alan, the owner, is extremely helpful. It is a short drive to the beach, Black Rock Sands, in one direction or a walk in the other. It makes an excellent base with Snowdon about half an hour away driving through stunning landscapes. Black Rock Llama trekking centre is a short walk away. The cottage is well equipped and clean. It's been fabulous.
