Description

The Mandrel is a unique holiday home on the Easter Ross peninsula near the pretty fishing village of Portmahomack
The Easter Ross peninsula has it all: breath-taking beaches, world-class links golf courses, history trails and beautiful coastal walks as well as delicious local food and drink.

The Mandrel is licensed by Highland Council to sleep six in three bedrooms. Licence number HI-20512-F.

The most striking feature of the property is the 52m² open-plan living/dining/kitchen space with two sets of sliding glass doors giving panoramic views over the surrounding farmland. The interior-designed colour scheme contributes to the charm of the property. There are wood-burning stoves in the main living area and in the spacious panelled entrance hall/boot room.

The kitchen has an induction hob and double oven. The large entrance hall/boot room has a tiled floor where airers can be erected to dry off wet clothes. The utility room has a washing machine, tumble dryer, sink and further work surface.

There are three double bedrooms. The large downstairs bedroom has sliding glass doors leading to a patio area. It has a king-sized bed and shower room with 'Jack and Jill' doors leading to both the bedroom and boot room.

One of the upstairs bedrooms has twin beds which can be configured as a super-king. It has a large en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath and walk-in shower.

The second upstairs bedroom has a king-size bed with en-suite shower room with walk-in shower. There is a room beyond the shower which can be used as a dressing room/quiet area.

Both upstairs bedrooms have a Dormer window and Velux window with black-out blinds.

A weekend escape at The Mandrel, Portmahomack

By Alice on 17-Oct-2025

We spent a fantastic weekend at The Mandrel on the Easter Ross peninsula. From the moment we arrived, the house impressed - the open‑plan living/dining/kitchen space is beautifully designed and thoughtfully furnished, with soft cushions and throws adding warmth and style. Sliding glass doors frame the views perfectly, and on our first evening, we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights dancing right outside. Wood‑burning stoves created a cosy atmosphere, and the bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms offered comfort and privacy. The location is perfect for outdoor adventures, a stunning coastal walk with a well‑earned lunch at The Castle Pub, invigorating sea swims, exceptional dining at Oystercatcher (book ahead if you can), and a round at Portmahomack Golf Course, which is quirky, fun, and very friendly. The Mandrel is a stylish, relaxing, and memorable Scottish coastal escape - we’d happily return.

Excellent home from home in the Highlands

By Sam Hunt on 17-Oct-2025

Staying with a group of friends for a weekend, this home was perfect with spacious rooms, en suite bathrooms, a large kitchen living room, and cosy wood burners. Outside, one is spoiled for choice with walks and views and bird watching, and we were fortunate enough to see the northern lights from the garden. In nearby Portmahomack there was wild swimming to enjoy and the Oystercatcher restaurant for exceptional food. I would recommend anyone visiting the Highlands for a short or long trip to stay here. We hope to be back!
