Stunning coastal views and wonderful sunsets from our comfortable cosy cottage in Portmahomack in the Scottish Highlands.
Balcony with panoramic views over the village, beach, harbour and the Dornoch Firth. Enjoy a drink or lunch on the balcony and evening sunsets over the water.
2 minutes walk to Portmahomack's lovely sandy beach.
Local pub, golf, harbour, walks.
Great for those seeking peace and quiet, or for a family holiday, or to be with friends. Dog friendly.

The space
Bayview Cottage is a lovely cottage in an elevated position in the village of Portmahomack. It is an "upside-down" house, with an open-plan living room / kitchen / dining upstairs, leading out to a large balcony which, weather permitting is a glorious place to sit enjoying wonderful views over the village, the sandy beach, the harbour, the sea and the hills. Looking west over the Dornoch Firth, you often see dolphins in the water, we get frequent lovely sunsets over the water, and if you're very lucky you might even see the Northern Lights.

The house was built in the 1850s and was renovated and extended to the back overlooking the sea in 2010. It is gloriously bright and sunny in the summer and warm and cosy in the winter. The house is very nicely decorated in a coastal theme.

Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and one twin), a bathroom with shower and an additional toilet, and a utility room which leads out to a small back patio and garden.

Upstairs is the living room / kitchen / dining area which has wonderful views through the large patio doors which lead out to the balcony.

Walk out to the balcony and the views are even better - a great place to sit and enjoy lunch or a coffee or glass of wine. The "big skies" are frequently commented on - and it's certainly true that you can often see the weather coming! Fortunately, Portmahomack is amongst the driest places in Scotland (some say the driest!) and often you see the rain clouds in the west which have rained out before they reach "The Port". (No guarantees though!)

The living room has a wood burning stove (we try to leave a supply of logs) although the house is very well heated and insulated even without the stove. There is a Smart TV, good wifi for those who want to stay connected to the outside world, and there is a selection of board games.

The utility room has a washer drier in case you feel the need to do washing on your holidays! (And if you are bringing a dog, this is their drying off area!).

There is a small barbecue on the patio outside the utility room

Portmahomack is a great place to explore the surrounding area - for example Portmahomack's own Discovery Centre, Tarbatness lighthouse, Dornoch, Dunrobin Castle, the Standing Stones,
Cromarty, Glenmorangie Distillery are within a very short drive. Further afield you can drive the NC500 up to the north coast, or go west to Lochinver or Ullapool, or south to Inverness or Loch Ness,

In summary, a lovely little cottage in a great seaside location!

We have parking at the front door for up to 2 cars.

We share an EV charging point with next door, so if you have an electric car you can charge cheaply by arrangement with us.
