Overview
Description
Beautiful Puffin Burrow sits at the far end of a row of historic 18th century Fishermans cottages, on the sea edge, affording spectacular views around Portmellon Cove and out to Chapel Point. The cottage has been sensitively modernised whilst retaining period character. It is suitable for two adults only, with a well behaved dog welcomed. Patios look out over the bay and both the living room and the upstairs bedroom have fabulous sea views. Go to sleep with the sound of the waves lapping against the shore and wake up to a view across the cove from the bed. Bed linen and towels are provided. Electricity and wifi is included in the rental price. There is electric heating throughout. A fan is provided for the summer months.Access and outside area
Access to the cottage is via steps down to a seafront path then along the front of the row of cottages. Puffin Burrow is fortunate in being at the far end of the row. It is the only one where there is privacy and no access across the property. There is a sheltered seating outside the Cottage, facing the sea and another lower sea front terrace with steps (steps shared with one bedroomed Dawn Cottage next door) down to the open area with low wall, just above high tide.
With the tide out there is a wide expanse of beach. Plenty of beach space for a dog (or you) to run on (Dog restrictions 01/07 until 31/08, 10.00hrs until 18.00hrs). There is Kayak and Paddle Board hire by the beach from Easter to end of October.
Living room
The cosy living area has a sofa, a television with satellite TV, a DVD player with assorted DVDs, a radio and an 'Echo Dot' for all your question and music needs. There is a supply of games and an electric log burner. The dining area has a table, two chairs and a window seat. All complemented with a tiled floor, period features such as a beamed ceiling and beautiful artwork by award winning artist Wendy Darker.
Kitchen
Modern and well equipped for all your holiday needs. There is a 'farmhouse' range style electric oven and hob, microwave oven, a washing machine, a 'Kitchen Aid, Nespresso' coffee machine and a 'Volkswagen' Gorenje fridge with freezer. Well equipped with Denby crockery, Smeg kettle and Smeg toaster, with all the pans, glasses and utensils you should need.
Bedroom and Ensuite
The large upstairs bedroom has a choice of a Superking or twin beds with a wooden floor, rugs and beamed ceiling. There is a stunning sea view from the bed. When the tide is in you feel like you're floating on the water. A wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables are provided for your belongings with a hair drier, iron and board. Books and games are on the shelves and in the cupboard. You are surrounded by lovely artwork with a beautiful view of the sea and Chapel Point. The ensuite bathroom has a bath with a shower above and a heated towel rail.
Parking
Unload by the gate to the cottage and then move your car to the unallocated parking near by (80 metres) along Portmellon Park.
The Location
Puffin Burrow is the on the South West Coast path and it’s great for walking in either direction. The sea or a beach is straight in front of the Cottage depending on the tide! The Shack at Portmellon is a fantastic little outside Cafe open from Easter until the end of October. The Rising Sun pub just about 50 metres from the Cottage is a wonderful traditional old smuggling Inn on the seafront. It has been refurbished into a modern venue with great food.
Mevagissey, a 10 to 15 minute walk from the cottage, is still a working fishing village, full of independent shops, restaurants and pubs with a wonderful harbour,
The Lost Gardens of Heligan is ten minutes in the car, or a good walk going through Mevagissey and the woods beyond. The Eden project is 10 miles from Puffin Burrow.

By Kate and Roland on 05-Apr-2025Our second time at Puffin Burrow didn't disappoint! Fantastic weather, some spectacular stormy waves. Lots of lovely walks from the cottage, especially to Chapel Point where we saw at least 16 seals sunbathing. Also through the boatyard to the lovely woodland path. We will be back.
