Description

Dating back over 100 years, The Barn is a characterful conversion that was renovated in 2012 to provide a comfortable and modern holiday home which is also DOG Friendly. It is located next to the owner's house but has its own entrance and enclosed patio garden. It is situated in the village of Puncknowle, pronounced Punnel, a charming village of stone cottages surrounded by the beautiful Bride Valley on one side and a downland ridge on the other that shelters the village from the sea.
The Barn is a great location for couples or small families wishing to experience the charm of the countryside but also being close to the amenities that the Jurassic coastline has to offer. The coast is about a mile away where you can explore the spectacular Chesil beach and Jurassic coast - the perfect location for beachcombing, fishing or just enjoying the spectacular views.
The ground floor offers a well-equipped kitchen where you can put together your next delicious meal. Come through to the lounge/diner and curl up after a busy day on the sofa in front of the TV. Upstairs are two comfortable double bedrooms. Relax outside in the evening air with a refreshing drink on the patio. The patio is surrounded by a high wall so you can relax knowing that all children and/or dogs can be contained safely. The Crown is the nearest pub and is around a three-minute walk. It is a traditional thatched pub with an inglenook fireplace to cosy up to in the winter whilst a spacious garden with wonderful views across the Bride valley is the perfect place to enjoy your drink in the summer. Providing meals and a variety of beverages including local beer, it could be the ideal place for a night off from cooking.
The market town of Bridport is only 5 miles away. It is one of the few market towns that has independent butchers, bakers and green grocers as well as many independent cafes and restaurants. There is a very popular street market every Saturday and Wednesday which hosts a wide variety of local produce as well as bric a brac and antiques.
Abbotsbury, a beautiful village with mainly thatched cottages, is under 5 miles away and has much to offer with its sub-tropical gardens and the Swannery bird reserve - it hosts the only swans in the country that are not owned by the Queen. Weymouth with its Georgian seafront, old harbour and sandy beach is a lazy drive along the coast road through picture postcard villages and breath-taking scenery to the East.
The Barn is the ideal base to explore the many options Dorset presents to guests either exploring the countryside and beaches by walking from the cottage or alternatively driving a short distance to explore further afield.

A great, peaceful stay, central to everywhere we wanted to visit.

By Melanie on 05-Sep-2025

An ideal stay for holidaying with our dog. Sue & Steve, being dog owners themselves were sensitive to our nervy little chaps needs & foibles. The barn was beautifully clean on arrival, with an amazing welcome gift including delicious homemade scones & Bonios. The information folder told us everything we needed to know about local food, walks and general information. We had car problems during our stay and Sue & Steve were happy to contact their local garage for us to see if they could assist. The stay was relaxing in comfortable accommodation. The only personal down sides for us was no local shop in walking distance, time for a walk & morning paper is a bit of a luxury for us when on holiday, so missed this as it involved a drive to nearest shop and the shower, the lack of pressure made showering a chore.

Thank you for taking the time to review The Barn. It was lovely to meet you both and your amazing collie. I'm sorry that you were disappointed with the lack of pressure in the shower. We have just come out of 4 months with hardly any rain and I can only think that wessex water had reduced the pressure in their system. We have had problems previously so have installed a pump which seemed to have solved the problem in our system. Hopefully now that we're getting rain the problem with the mains water will be rectified.

Beautiful Barn - Warm and welcoming owners

By Jodie, Julie, Cai and Mac on 23-Aug-2025

We absolutely loved our stay at The Barn! Warm and welcoming owners, peaceful location with plenty of walks on the doorstep and a short drive away from the beach and local pub. Lovely surprise of fresh home made scones, jam and cream to walk into after a long drive! Thank you Sue and Steve, was lovely meeting you both 🥰

Wonderful beautiful cottage stay

By Laura Hull on 26-Jul-2025

Our family had the most wonderful stay. The cottage was beautiful inside and out! Sue had made everything so comfortable for us leaving extra touches. She made our whole family welcome when we arrived including getting lovely toys and games for our children to play with while they stayed. She strait away also made us feel that our dog was part of the stay and our family by including blankets on the sofa. We didn't want to leave our stay and cannot thank the owners enough for making our stay so pleasurable

Another great stay at a lovely property in a spectacular location

By June and Paul on 18-Jul-2025

We have stayed at The Barn several times. It is a lovely, well equipped and really comfortable property in a great location. The village of Puncknowle is so picturesque with a lovely and friendly thatched pub which offers delicious. It is an ideal location for the beautiful Dorset countryside and the Jurassic coast. Sue and Steve are so welcoming and helpful and the homemade scones with clotted cream and jam on our arrival were a real bonus. We look forward to our next visit.

Lovely stay at the Barn

By The Hunters on 11-Jul-2025

We really enjoyed our week at the Barn, it was clean, comfortable, peaceful and very dog friendly. The owners are lovely and were on hand if we'd needed them. We enjoyed the home made scones on arrival and there are some good dog walks in the area too. We hope to stay again.
