Leave ReviewBeautifully quiet setting surrounded by fields .
By Helen on 07-Jun-2025La retraite lives up to its name. The Cottage itself was a charming mix of old French with modern conveniences. Clean, comfortable and characterful. Comfy beds and lovely linens. Set in the quiet countryside yet only 15 mins to nearest super u and fuel. A great base to explore the Perigord vert with many restaurants to choose from a short drive away. Lovely to have such a lovely dog friendly cottage in such a beautiful spot. The heated pool was well used and kept well tended by Steve the owner. Sally and Steve met us on arrival and were very welcoming. Their thoughtful welcome of goodies were also well received. A beautiful cottage and we would love to return .
Perfect hideaway
By Deb on 24-May-2025We stayed at La Retraite at the end of May. It is a perfect hideaway holiday. There are things to do and visit in the area but our 4 kids had such a brilliant time in the pool, table football and playing sports in the fab garden they didn’t want to go anywhere. Both the house and gardens are beautiful and Steve and Sally have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. From the fully equipped kitchen, towels and inflatables for the pool, to the bbq and fire pit. Every detail had been carefully considered. We had the most perfect and relaxing week and can’t wait to return! Thank you for such a fab holiday!
Tranquil haven in the glorious French countryside
By Jessica Milne on 17-Aug-2024We stayed at La Retraite for two weeks. Prior to arrival Sally sent through all the information we needed as well as some recommendations on places and restaurants to visit. The accommodation was stunning and so peaceful. We want to disconnect and recharge our batteries and La Retraite allowed us to do exactly that with its peaceful location, glorious views and a perfect Gîte with everything we needed. The Gîte was lovely and immaculate and the grounds and pool allowed us to relax in the French sun. Sally and Steve were the perfect hosts and ensured we had what we needed and Steve came and cleaned the pool regularly. All in all a fantastic stay - would highly recommend - a jewel in the Périgord region.
Highly recommended! Amazing stay
By Jennifer Coleman on 27-Jul-2024La Retraite is an amazing place to stay! You have the idyllic French countryside mixed with the close cycle or drive to Thiviers. The Gite is stunningly decorated and kitted out better than any Air BnB I have ever visited. Sally and Steve are the nicest and most accommodating of hosts – even extending their invitation to a drink at their beautiful home next door. We massively over packed, there was no need for half the items we packed in the car as they were all ready and waiting. The pool is maintained to a high standard and is perfect for kids to play in or to take a rest bite form the heat. As a family we have fallen in love with the area and are even looking at purchase in the area ourselves. I cannot recommend La Retraite highly enough. Its money very well spent and will provide you with the perfect holiday.
A fabulous place to stay!
By Kate & Tim Sutton on 06-Jul-2024Th gîte and the location are simply ideal. Fabulous views, gorgeous gardens and outdoor seating. The views are stunning and the sunsets are spectacular. The heated pool is superbly maintained and although appears smaller it really didn’t seem so. The gite is very cozy, great kitchen, great wi-fi, excellent bathroom facilities with plenty of hot water. The hosts Sally and Steve were always on hand if needed and were very knowledgeable and friendly. We can’t recommend this gite highly enough!
