Overview
Description
We look forward to welcoming you to 'Grange Lapin', our privately owned gite/holiday home. Our stunningly converted detached barn offers 6 beautiful bedrooms, three of which are en-suite and situated in what must be one of the most stunning locations in the Charente with far reaching views over the countryside from every room and the beautiful patio and private pool. There are beautiful walks from the doorstep, a large garden leading off into the countryside, plenty of parking and private pool.We are situated in the south east Charente region of France very close to the border of the Dordogne and are surrounded by rolling hills and woodland, maize and sunflower fields but only 4km from the pretty town of Montmoreau St Cybard, with all amenities including butchers, bakers, bank, post office, bar and a little restaurant and a large supermarket. The stunning town of Aubeterre sur Dronne is only 15 minutes away with its unusual Romanesque monolithic underground church and voted one of the most beautiful villages in France. It has a variety of great restaurants, a wonderful river to swim in or you can sit with a chilled glass of wine or cold beer in the square watching the world go by.
The area has a wealth of charm and tranquility, from the South Charente with its echoes (but fewer tourists) of the next door Dordogne to the gently sloping vineyards of the wealthy Cognac producing West Charente. Spend your time visiting the many wonderful local markets including Aubeterre, Brantome, Riberac, Chalais and Villebois Lavalette with its feudal chateau dominating the region from its hilltop. Villebois has a market every Saturday morning where you can enjoy a dish of fresh oysters with a bottle of Muscadet under the ancient and covered market square. The attractive hill town of Angouleme is 30 minutes away, best known for its impressive Romanesque cathedral, international comic festival and the Cirque de Ramparts held each year. Spend a day tasting the wonders of the great houses of Cognac and learn about the history and production of this glorious amber nectar. The beautiful town of Brantome is just under an hour away where you can wander the cobbled streets, take a canoe around the island town or sit in the park with its huge trees and interesting plant life. These are but a few tasters of what our area has to offer, and if it all proves too much, take time out to relax by the pool with a good book and a chilled glass of wine taking in the breathtaking views around you, not to mention the utter peace and tranquility this gite offers.
For more information for what to do in the area please check out our 'Activities' and 'Activities for Children' pages.
Grange Lapin is a large and beautifully renovated barn, which includes all modern facilities, yet still retains the character features of huge oak beams, Charentais stone walls and is set in the midst of gorgeous French countryside with fabulous views all around. It has its own large garden, with established fruit trees and has a spacious patio, meaning you can sit out in the fresh air looking out far across the sunflower fields, woodlands and hills. The 10.5 x 5.5m pool is totally private to the property and surrounded by a beautiful decking patio with sun beds and again those views!

Leave ReviewFantastic week at Grange Lapin
By David on 09-Aug-2025We had a fantastic week at Grange Lapin. The house was perfect for our group of six adults and three children – spacious, comfortable, and extremely well maintained. The kitchen was particularly impressive, very well equipped with everything we needed for family meals. The pool was a real highlight – beautifully kept and great for both kids and adults. Toby came by several times during the week to tend to it. The setting is lovely and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing break. The surrounding area is charming, with plenty to explore. We especially enjoyed visiting the nearby village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, which is picture-perfect with a beautiful square, great cafés, and restaurants. Overall, Grange Lapin exceeded our expectations and made for a truly memorable holiday. Highly recommended!

Fantastic week at Grange Lapin
By Hamish on 22-Jul-2024The house is great and everything we needed it to be. The kids loved playing in the pool and there was plenty of space to have a very relaxed week. The local area is beautiful and there are some great villages and towns within a drive that were great to explore. Would especially recommend Aubeterre-sur-dronne and also making a trip to Cognac! thanks for hosting us!

Lovely House
By Mark Lawton on 26-Jun-2017Lovely house Had a fantastic holiday in a lovely house. The house was spacious, clean and tidy. The pool was cleaned twice while we were there and everything worked as it should. Also the owners had left us a super welcome pack of food and drink, which was a nice touch. Would stay there again and recommend it for families.
Just Beautiful
By Jane Annets on 25-Aug-2018Just Beatiful! This is a very pretty converted stone barn in a peaceful and quite stunningly beautiful setting. It really is as good as it looks in the photographs. We just missed the sunflowers, but the view was still wonderful and we all miss looking out on it in the mornings. The sunsets and night skies were fantastic as well. We did test the facilities to the limit with a group of 14 adults. Some ingenuity was required on the part of the cooks to produce breakfast, lunch and a three course evening meal for all, but we did manage. A slightly smaller group or one including some children would suit the property ideally. The property is very well maintained and was immaculately clean. We loved the open plan layout, which meant no one ever felt excluded or shut off from whatever was going on. It’s a great area, with a wide range of activities to suit everyone. We had a fantastic time, finding something different to do every day - I won’t list all of the options here because others have covered the subject elsewhere. Lesley and Toby were lovely and always available without being obtrusive in any way. As a group we have holidayed in France for many years now and this was definitely our best yet.
Best Holiday accommodation ever!
