Description

La Porcherie is a recent luxury conversion of a traditional tuffeau barn. It has its own access and parking spaces. The accommodation is of a high standard and is set in a small rural hamlet surrounded by pear and apple orchards.

Our holiday cottage offers accommodation for four. It is situated in Saint-Lambert-des-Levées, 5km from the delightful town of Saumur in the western Loire Valley and close to the magnificent River Loire.

On the ground floor, the spacious double-aspect living area contains two leather two-seater sofas, two leather armchairs with footstools, a dining table with six chairs and a fully-fitted, well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave oven and induction hob. There is ample cupboard space. The utility room contains the washing machine, freezer, ironing board and cleaning materials. Finally, there is a wet-room with WC and washbasin.

There is a good wi-fi connection and can connect to the internet from the garden.

On the first floor, there is a second shower room with WC and washbasin. There are two bedrooms, one with two single beds and one with a double bed. Both are light and airy with a double aspect and contain mirrored wardrobes and chests of drawers.

Outside, the very large garden is excellent for bird-watching and star-gazing. There is plenty of space for sitting, outdoor games and barbecuing. Garden furniture, loungers and a barbecue are provided.

Adult bikes are available on request and at your own risk.

We have found a gem

By Barrie Jones and Carol Brown on 07-Sep-2023

This was our third stay at this property and we fully intend to visit again. Location is ideal being semi rural but an easy drive to Saumur and only a few minutes to the river. The house is comfortable, very well equipped and would recommend it to those who want to explore the many delights of the area. For us a fabulous find!

Lovely gite - well equipped

By Mike & Lynette Baker on 24-Jun-2023

Ellie and Colin made us feel very welcome. The gite was equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay - located just outside of Saumur in a quiet agricultural area, but within easy reach of the town and surrounding attractions. Satellite tv and a solid internet connection worked well. We really enjoyed our stay.

Thanks Mike & Lynette. We are glad you enjoyed yourselves. It was lovely to have met you both.

Quiet property with spacious garden

By Ray Brettle on 29-May-2023

The photographs were an accurate representation of the property and the garden was large with plenty of space to relax in. There was a covered space adjacent to the storage area which was useful for a shaded area. There were lots of visiting birds as well as a pair of hares. The neighbourhood was quiet with only the occasional barking dog and passing tractor. There was very little traffic, only about 6 or 7 houses and lots of agricultural land nearby. Access and unloading was easy having received the code for the key lock from the owners and being able to park on drive opposite the door to the cottage. Our hosts had expected to be in residence in the other half of the cottage to greet us and offer advice but had been unavoidably detained in London. They were however easily contactable by text and phone if there had been any specific problems. There was plenty of information from the owners about the cottage, its facilities and what is available locally. This was provided beforehand by email. There was also a very good information folder on site. The shutters worked well to keep house cool and I cannot comment on heating since it was about 27 °C during our stay in early June. The kitchen was well equipped and both the dishwasher and washing machine worked well. The freezer was in the utility room with the washing machine and dryer (which we did not need to use). There was plenty of hot water which lasted us through the day. The water is heated at night and it is not possible to switch on the immersion if you run out of hot water. The water temperature was very hot so my advice is to keep all the taps around the midway position. The TV was a little confusing until by trial and error we worked out how to access the satellite connection which allowed us to watch terrestrial British TV. The bedrooms and upstairs bathroom are all located in the roof space of the cottage. The head of the double bed was located near the sloping roof to maximise the room space and was quite low so beware if you like a high bed. The main bedroom was large with lots of storage space. There was an electronically controlled safe bolted to the wall that sits on a chest of draws. It was easy to set up once the remaining AA battery was inserted. There was also plenty of storage space in the twin bedroom but we did not use this bedroom. The upstairs bathroom was small but worked well. The shower was good and we did not use the downstairs shower in the wet room. The nearest shops we found were in Saumur. There is a very large Leclerc in the south west suburbs of Saumur which also has some covered parking which may be attractive in the height of summer. We very much enjoyed our stay and our trips along the Loire valley and would recommend the property for this area of the Loire valley.
