Enjoy a well-deserved break in our luxury accommodation in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Abbotsford’s Hope Scott Wing is the perfect luxury accommodation ideal for groups boasting 8 beautifully appointed double bedrooms.

Once home to Sir Walter Scott’s granddaughter, Charlotte Hope Scott, the Hope Scott Wing retains the intimacy and integrity of a family home, while introducing all the essentials of modern-day comfort. Guests can relax in a unique combination of the personal and the historical in this intimate country retreat, which still retains many of its original features, as well as Scott family belongings, including original artworks and furniture.

A range of bespoke itineraries and catering services including banquets in Scott’s magnificent dining room, exclusive access to the gardens, clay pigeon shooting, guided tours, hot tub hire and even a personal chef can also be arranged.

Experience an unique opportunity to stay in one of the most famous historical houses in the world: the home of one of the most famous celebrities of the Nineteenth Century, Sir Walter Scott. Situated in the beautiful Scottish Borders, Abbotsford’s Hope Scott Wing offers luxury accommodation for groups of up to 16 guests.

The space
The Hope Scott Wing is a later extension to Sir Walter Scott’s A-listed 'Conundrum' Castle, built in the 1850s to provide generations of his descendants with a secluded retreat. It has been sensitively renovated to offer luxury self-catering stays for up to 16 guests. Furnished with paintings and furniture from the Scott family collection, it retains the warm and welcoming feel of a family home. The Hope Scott Wing is a special place, perfect for bringing together family and friends to escape, relax and celebrate.

With seven luxury bedrooms, and an adjoining additional eighth bedroom, the accommodation is ideal for families, groups of friends or colleagues celebrating a special occasion or those simply looking to unwind from daily life in beautiful surroundings. Bedrooms include the Hope Scott Master with a grand four-poster bed, a fully accessible suite with commanding views to the river Tweed and five other luxurious double or twin rooms all individually styled and named after family members or prominent guests to Abbotsford. One bedroom also offers an adjoining queen-size room – perfect for a young family or close friends.

The public rooms provide ample space where you can enjoy a peaceful afternoon with a favourite book in the library, cosy down in front of the fire in the sitting room or enjoy a game of snooker in the games room. The large bespoke kitchen comes fully equipped and the formal dining room boasts spectacular views of the river Tweed. Outside, relax or enjoy a barbeque in the privacy of the courtyard garden.

Guest access
The whole of the rented space is for the exclusive use of guests on a self catering basis. We provide all bed linen, towels, tea towels and a welcome pack containing milk, ice, tea, locally roasted coffee and a selection of local produce including honey from the Abbotsford bees!

Our experienced staff will be delighted to help curate a bespoke itinerary that makes your stay truly unforgettable. A range of unique experiences and catering packages can be arranged including guided fishing days, clay pigeon shooting, hot tub hire, private Gin tastings and guided tours of Scott's historic rooms.

Other things to note
Guests should note that from March to December Abbotsford is a visitor attraction with Scott's original historic rooms open to the public to experience where he lived and worked. These are located within the same building as the guest accommodation. The wider estate and woodland walks are also open for the public to access. There is very little intrusion on the accommodation and once closed for the day guests have exclusive access to the formal gardens.

Guests enjoy complimentary admission to Scott's historic rooms (including use of our excellent audio guides) and our folklore themed trail, Witch Corner. Guests are also entitled to a 10% discount in our onsite cafe and shop.
