Seb's Sea House is a lovely old cottage which retains many of its original features such as stone fireplaces downstairs and beautifully decorated fireplaces upstairs. However, it has been refurbished to a high standard with new kitchen, bathroom and utility room. The quiet garden is full of birdlife, including ducks who waddle by. The cottage is ideal for use in the Summer months with facilities for alfresco dining, buckets and spades and an outdoor hose to wash down wet suits and dogs.
We welcome well behaved dogs, who must not be allowed on furniture or upstairs.
In the colder months you can enjoy cosy wood burning fires (wood provided), reading by the fire, use of our board games, well stocked library and DVD collection. Out of season the beaches are spectacular, wading birds, miles of empty beaches, St Cuthbert’s Way and an opportunity to see The Northern Lights.
Outdoors we have both an open garden and a separate enclosed garden suitable for children and dogs. Seating has been placed to view the magnificent sunsets as well as an outdoor table and chairs for alfesco dining. The night skies are probably some of the darkest and clearest in the UK.
Why not make use of our membership at the Ocean Club? This is a privately run Spa, Swimming pool and Gym and available for use by our guests.
We chose this property because it is away from the hustle and bustle of Seahouses and has a good sized enclosed garden with private parking. However, a ten minute walk down a tree-lined path and you will be at the most magnificent beach which leads to Bamburgh Castle and Bamburgh Village.
Bamburgh Village has some excellent pubs and restaurants,a deli, award-winning butchers, the ancient church of St Aidan's and the Grace Darling Museum. A ten minute walk in the opposite direction takes you to Seahouses Village and Harbour from where you can take a boat out to The Farne Islands. Seahouses has more shops than the other villages in the area including a Co-op, bakers, fruit and veg shop, gift shops, a deli and numerous restaurants, pubs and cafes. Here you will also find the Ocean Club Spa, gym, swimming pool and restaurant. Pamper days, massages and a beautician are available.
Beadnell Bay is the only west facing bay on the East Coast of the UK. It is sheltered, backed by sand dunes, clean, safe for children and has toilets, water sports including diving, kayaking, paddle boarding and body boarding. There is a coffee hut which also sells sandwiches and The Landing cafe.
Bamburgh beach is suitable for surfing. It sits under the magnificent castle. There is a coffee hut in one of the beach car parks which also sells sandwiches.
You are within driving distance of Alnwick Gardens and Castle (where Harry Potter and Downton Abbey were filmed), Holy Island, Berwick, Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Warkworth Castle, Low Newton National Trust Village and Edinburgh. For fans of Vera you are within easy driving distance of many scenes. For fans of Transformers, much of this was recently filmed in the area.
There are numerous golf courses in the area, diving off The Farne Islands, bird watching, hiking, cycling routes straight from the house and horse riding, which is is a two minute walk away. Boat trips in the winter months will allow you to see seal pups on the nearby islands.
This house is suitable for couples and families.
The house is also available for acting and film crew. We are flexible as to dates taken out of the main Summer season.
We are a 7 minute drive from Newton Hall Wedding Venue and 15 minutes away from Doxford Hall Wedding Venue. Many of our guests stay with us when attending local weddings.
The area is a bird watchers paradise. There are puffins in Summer on the Farne Islands which are owned by The National Trust. Dolphins are spotted on an almost daily basis together with minke whales and orcas. In Winter you can take a boat out to tour the Islands where you can see large colonies of seals. We have negotiated a 10% discount for all of our guests on Billy Shields Farne Islands boats.
Holy Island, reached across a tidal road, is the seat of early Christianity in England. St Cuthbert was buried there until his remains had to be rescued from the Vikings.
The Island also has huge expanses of beautiful, clean, empty beaches.
