Le Chause Haut. A spacious, comfortable holiday house with large private heated pool and stunning views over the Vézère Valley and local Chateau. It is equipped to a very high standard to ensure your perfect Dordogne holiday! On the ground floor : It has a bright and sunny, well equipped country-style kitchen/diner, with farmhouse table seating eight, and French doors leading onto the sunny courtyard.
The large separate lounge, with log-burning feature fireplace, has sumptuous sofas and benefits from English satellite TV. French doors lead onto a shady covered terrace. There are 2 double bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room: a family bathroom, and separate toilet. On the first floor : There is a further double bedroom, a twin bedroom, and another toilet and shower. Setting : This charming house is nestled in two acres of land with oak woodland to the rear and open meadow in front stretching down towards the river. The 12m x 4m heated swimming pool is set in its own large sun terrace, with a wonderful view of the Chateau. A perfect place to relax and soak up the sun!
The pool is bathed in sunshine from mid-morning until sundown! For dining al fresco, there are two terraces - one by the pool, benefiting from lovely dappled shade; the other a covered terrace to the rear of the house, ideal for eating or simply relaxing in the shade. Both enjoy beautiful views over the countryside. Le Chause Haut really is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy your holiday with family or friends.
The owners live in the cottage next door so are just a few seconds away should you require any advice or assistance.
Surroundings : The house overlooks the beautiful Vézère Valley, and sits at the end of a private drive which winds gently up from the river. The little village of Thonac with its well stocked shop, restaurants and bar, is less than a mile away. The charming market town of Montignac and the famous Lascaux caves are just a ten minute drive to the north, and the pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe a ten minute drive to the South. You will be spoilt for choice for places to visit and things to do! The medieval town of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, the European centre of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vézère, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a twenty mile radius of the house. Other wonderful attractions in the immediate area include pre-historic parks and caves; chateaux and gardens; and magnificent castles dating back to the Hundred Years War. The many and varied activities on the doorstep include canoeing, horse-riding, walking, cycling and paragliding. There are also many attractions such as an aquarium, a treetop adventure park and a heritage theme park. To name them all would need a book - the list is endless....! Those looking to experience the gastronomic delights of the region will find a nearby market on every day of the week offering the very best that local producers have to offer. There are many opportunities to discover the secrets of production and sample the fine foods and wine that this area is famous for - confit de canard, foie gras, gateau noix, regional cheeses and Bergerac wines to name but a few. There is an abundance of local restaurants to suit every taste and budget, ranging from riverside cafés to haute cuisine. PLEASE NOTE : The pool is available for use from May to September, and will be heated throughout this period.
Superb views, nice, complete and very clean house.

We felt very welcome. The owners live next to the house (out of view) in a separate house and really respected our privacy. The house is very clean and well maintained. The pool is spotless with a magnificent view over the valley and the chateau opposite. The Vezere valley has a lot of interesting sites but is not as crowded as the Dordogne valley. Thanks David and Lorraine!
Very enyoyable week in such a lovely area.

We had an excellent week staying at the house. It is very well equipped and comfortable, with a great countryside feel to it. However it is well positioned for visiting many of the interesting sites around and also for getting to Sarlat, the nearest town with it's many histrorical buildings and a surfeit of good restaurants. There are many local restaurants and bars close by as well. David and Lorraine were very welcoming and made sure we had all we needed to make our stay enjoyable.

We have stayed in many homes both in France and in the US, and this was hands down our favorite. Dave and Lori live right next door and are always available to address any need. The house is stocked with everything you could possibly want, the beds are comfortable and the view is spectacular!! We spent lots of time by the pool which overlooks this stunning view. It was a great couple of weeks and we got sentimental saying goodbye to Dave and Lori. They're the best!! If you're looking for a quiet home base from which to see this incredible part of France you need look no further.
Alain and Mary - thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad that you enjoyed your time in Sergeac, and agree with us that it is such a special place. We thoroughly enjoyed your company, and sincerely hope that you pop in and see us next time you are this side of the pond. Dave and Lori

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Le Chause Haut and would highly recommend it. The cottage was very well appointed with everything we needed for a very relaxing stay. The pool area was fabulous and the inflatable toys provided kept our five and two year-old sons entertained for hours. The view down over the meadow to the river and castle was beautiful, with an abundance of seating areas provided from which to enjoy it. The location was great, within easy reach of a supermarket, Montignac and lots of places to go for day trips, including castles, canoeing and caves. Lorraine and Dave were very friendly, helpful and welcoming and had thought of everything, even filling the sky-box planner with lots of children’s films and programmes. We particularly enjoyed watching Ice Age just before visiting Grotte de Rouffignac to set the scene for viewing the fabulous cave-art! There is so much to do in the area that we would love to return in future, and would certainly book Le Chause Haut again.
Emma - We are obviously delighted that you and your family had a wonderful holiday, and thank you so much for the review. We try all sorts of things to help make the Le Chause Haut experience as enjoyable as possible, so it is great to hear that our efforts have been worthwhile! It was a pleasure to have you stay, and we hope that you will all be able to come back again some day.

Wonderful gite and superb hosts.

I am almost reluctant to leave this review as I would like to keep this a secret!! We stayed at Le Chause Haut for three weeks and the holiday was wonderful. We have stayed in many gîtes and this was by far and away the best. The house is immaculately clean with quality bedding and towels and is extremely comfortable with a very well-equipped kitchen, in fact a home away from home. Importantly for us was the downstairs en-suite bedroom for our daughter who has mobility issues and this was perfect for her. The bathrooms are modern and tasteful with powerful showers. The pool is the biggest we have seen in a French gîte and is in a beautiful location with stunning views over the valley. There are umpteen seating areas around the property and it always possible to find sun or shade as required. Lorraine and Dave are great hosts, enthusiastic and informative about the region; they are always available for advice but are unintrusive. There were many thoughtful touches, including a bottle of wine on arrival and some home-grown tomatoes and figs from the garden. The location of the property is quiet and rural but only a couple of minutes drive to the nearest village and approximately seven minutes to a large supermarket and pharmacy. It is the best of both worlds; in the beautiful Vézère countryside but close to facilities and attractions such as Lascaux. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and thank Lorraine and Dave for their wonderful hospitality. We hope to return very soon indeed.

David & Lorraine are the perfect hosts - very welcoming and made us feel right at home, the house was better than it's pictures and had everything that we needed for a superb holiday. Wish we could have stayed longer. Well positioned as there is plenty to see and do in the area, if you can tear yourself away from the beautiful pool.

We spent a wonderful five days at this lovely, quiet house tucked up on the hill overlooking the valley. Our hosts, David and Lorraine were a pleasure to work with from my initial inquiry to getting us settled on our arrival to answering our questions about local attractions. The house is in a beautiful location and we made full use of the pool and outdoor patio spaces. The bedrooms were spacious, the kitchen was well equipped and the lounge had a nice selection of books and games. The town of Montignac is an easy 10 minute drive and is full of lovely shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return again.

The description of Le Chause Haut on the website was extremely accurate and from the moment we arrived we fell in love with the Vezere valley and the ideal position of the property - especially the views of the chateau. We loved the fact it was a typically French house but with all the comforts of home- an extremely well equipped kitchen, Sky TV, Internet, good selection of games(both indoor and outdoor),DVD's and books to read plus a vast array of information about the local area.We loved the pool area especially watching the sun set from there and the fact that there were numerous seating areas to choose from. Dave and Lorraine were the perfect hosts with great knowledge of the area and always on hand if we needed anything. Highly recommend canoeing on the Vezere(much quieter than the Dordogne), the night market in Saint Leon, the lake at Tamnies and le roc de st Christophe. A relaxing family holiday and we can't wait to return.
Wonderful Gite with fantastic amenities, peaceful yet close to restaurants. Perfection!
By Angela S on 21-Aug-2016
Everything about this property is fantastic. Beautiful location with the most wonderful views. The gite has 4 bedrooms all of which are lovely with comfortable beds and nice bedlinen. Everything was immaculately clean on our arrival with modern facilities. Bathrooms had great showers and were clean and modern. The gite was lovely and cool inside even on a scorching hot summer day. Pool and outside areas absolutely gorgeous, the pictures do not do it justice. A couple of good restaurants are within a 15/20 min walk or 2 min drive away. Owners Dave and Lorraine were efficient with the booking process and extremely helpful. They were available if we needed any advice on things to do and were gracious and welcoming . I only wish every time we went away we were greeted and made to feel as welcome as they made us both feel. One of the best places we have had the pleasure of staying and we will be back soon.

It’s now a month since my family and I stayed at Le Chause Haut and we have already booked to go back again next year – this time for two weeks! I cannot recommend this gite highly enough, picturesque, tranquil, and as relaxing as you need it to be. Dave and Lorraine are the perfect hosts and the property is decorated and furnished to the highest standard. Although it looks small from the outside, the rooms are cool and spacious and there are lots of places to sit and enjoy the views both inside and outside. We did venture out around the area but would have been quite happy to laze around the large sparkling pool and, although we visited a couple of local restaurants, most evenings were spent on the courtyard terrace at the back of the house. There is plenty to do within a short drive and we visited prehistoric caves, historic villages, picnicked by the Dordogne and canoed along the Vezere but there is much more out there to see. I think we will be staying at Le Chause Haut for many years to come. September 2015

An excellent property done to top English standards. Fully equipped and everything is still shiny new. Your hosts are extremely pleasant and helpful making you feel more like house guests than renters. Very relaxing with everything supplied including Sky TV, games, English books etc. If you're undecided - book it before it's gone!

Well, the holiday started before we arrived, Dave and Lorraine were so very helpful with journey routes, shortcuts and food - listen to them, you won't be disappointed. The house was immaculate, comfortable and equipped with everything you need - even a teapot and a washing machine that worked properly! The salt water pool was lovely and warm (so many places say `heated` but don't feel it), the views and location very peaceful and relaxing. It's perfectly located for visiting the multitude of places of interest in the area. Our hosts were super-kind, just easy, likeable people. They were available for a chat or glass of wine, when we approached them. They were never imposing. Their knowledge of the area is great, so they have some good tips which we took on numerous occasions, never to be disappointed. Would we go back with our girls (9 and 11) - absolutely yes.

This property ticks ALL the boxes! Very well appointed, great position high above the Vezere river overlooking a chateau. Close to many caves and prehistoric attractions. Lovely local villages with great restaurants and bars. Vides and Brocants abound! David and Lorraine are the perfect hosts with helpful advice if needed. The heated pool situated on a terrace above the property is probably the nicest we have come across in many years. WIFI and Sky also nice to have! There are at least three outside places to sit and eat plus a big table in the kitchen. It will take some beating! Lovely, lovely, lovely!
