The Dick Turpin luxury holiday cottage in Clun, Shropshire
is spacious light and airy; a relaxing retreat all year round, with its real log fire, central heating and double glazing. This classic yet contemporary Shropshire holiday cottage is set on a hillside in a 20-acre woodland wilderness reserve within the Shropshire hills, a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Being high above the village of Clun, the cottage enjoys enviable views across the valley and the rolling Shropshire countryside. It’s the only holiday cottage on the property, set well back from any public roads and not overlooked, so you can be assured of total privacy, seclusion, and peace.
The sympathetic restoration of this detached stone building under a slate roof retained many original features but also, importantly, introduced all of the modern amenities and comforts that you would expect to find in a five-star gold luxury holiday cottage, such as high speed Wi-Fi internet access.
There is parking right outside the cottage which is to be found at the top of a long private drive. Being built on the hillside, access to the cottage is via a short flight of steps. On arrival you will find a welcome hamper with some essentials and a few luxuries to begin your break in style.
The living room is light, airy and spacious. A great deal of care and attention has been lavished on furnishings, fittings and décor. For example, there is a hand-made sofa from Chelsea firm “Miracles”, complemented by a matching coffee table, both adorned with charming nocturnal winter scenes of badgers. These beautiful items fit well with an award-winning oak “Lamino” chair, said to be the most comfortable Swedish chair that money can buy. This lovely room also has a log-burning stove (free logs provided) and French doors looking out onto a very private terrace furnished with table and chairs.
There is also a large high definition flat screen television, a DVD player, video, iPod dock, internet/DAB radio and telephone.
The Dick Turpin Luxury Holiday Cottage Bedroom
The bedroom is notable for its striking Swiss fabric wall covering and its enormous, sumptuous bed, all very much in keeping with the luxury holiday cottage feel of the place. The German duvet and pillows, designer bed linen and high-quality mattress all make for a deliciously comfortable night’s sleep, before which you can always catch up on your favourite programmes on the flat screen television at the foot of the bed. There’s plenty of space for your clothes in the separate dressing area with wardrobe that adjoins the bedroom.
The bathroom is delightfully light with its quaint circular window. Not only will you find a bath, but also a double-sized shower cubicle with a power shower. There is a pair of luxurious bathrobes, so everything is set up for two people to get ready for the day in comfort. The bathroom has one WC, but there is another one in the separate cloakroom which has a pretty round window. In a separate little room you will find a washing machine, ironing board, information books and a sizeable collection of CDs and DVDs.
The kitchen is very impressive given that this Shropshire holiday cottage is a cottage for two people, and you could easily cater for visiting friends. A lot of thought has gone into making sure you have everything you need to make self-catering easy, convenient and enjoyable. There’s a full-sized fan oven, a ceramic hob, a fridge-freezer and a dishwasher. You will also find a special set of “Fisler” stainless steel 18/10 pans and a full range of utensils.
From the French doors of the living room you can walk out onto the West-facing private terrace, where you can enjoy breakfast in the clean Shropshire air, or you can take a bottle and two glasses up the steps to the elevated seating area, perfect for sitting in peace under the trees, listening to birdsong and admiring the truly breath-taking views of the south Shropshire countryside. You can take it easy, sunbathing on the outdoor chairs, sipping wine from your complimentary welcome hamper, then in the evening why not round off the day by dining alfresco on the terrace and retreat to the warmth of the log-burning stove as the sun goes down.
The Dick Turpin luxury holiday cottage makes for an easy, relaxing retreat in wonderful surroundings. If it sounds just the thing for you, why wait? You can check availability right now and book yourself a very special experience.

Leave ReviewA perfect country cottage full of interest and individuality
By Carole on 30-Dec-2024I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Dick Turpin Cottage. It was warm and comfortable and everything you could need was provided. The housekeeper was very friendly and helpful and the cottage is clearly well looked after. The one thing that would have improved my stay was a smart tv!
Peaceful and perfect.
By Laura on 28-Apr-2025Dick Turpin Cottage is a wonderful, luxurious place to recharge the batteries with a very friendly welcome. We loved the decor-fresh flowers and always something interesting to look at and the welcome pack is superb. It felt like the owners knew us personally and had provided all of our favourite things. Champagne, blue cheese, coffee and walnut cake, delicious little Easter eggs. Very thoughtful. The only sounds we heard were sheep and woodpeckers in the surrounding woodland and we saw buzzards, a red kite and muntjac deer every day. We had a truly excellent break in this gorgeous home from home. Our only regret is not booking a longer stay!
Well-kitted out self-catering cottage.
By Geoffrey Alan on 10-Oct-2025Large rooms, all very cosy & thoughtfully equipped for our self-catering needs. The on-line photographs of the interior of the cottage didn't convey the spaciousness of the rooms, especially the amazing bathroom. A cottage that felt very welcoming.
