Overview
Description
Perched in the hills west of historic Stirling, and less than an hours drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth, Garrique Cottage is an ideal base for exploring Scotland or for relaxing in the garden and surrounding countryside with friends and family, and perhaps a dog or two.. The cottage is peaceful and surprisingly spacious, with a beamed 33 foot long kitchen/dining/ living room and a separate sitting room with a wood burning stove and panoramic mountain views. French windows in the dining area lead out to decking with a picnic table and steps down to the south and west facing private garden. It provides accommodation for up to 6 people, and is all on one floor.Garrique Cottage is perfect for those wanting privacy and comfort combined with easy access to a variety of hill and woodland walks, historic homes and castles, beautiful gardens, wild swimming, distillery visits (notably Glengoyne and Deanston) and other activities. A number of walks start at the back door, and offer the chance to see deer, red squirrels, hare, rabbits, lambs in the spring, and a wide variety of song birds and raptors. A hard tennis court is available for visitors, often with exclusive use. Up to two dogs per party are very welcome and should enjoy all the open space around the cottage as should any youngsters. On the other hand, out of consideration to those with allergies we are unable to welcome smokers.
Kippen, with its two gastro pubs, two delicatessen/cafés, village shop/post office and historic church is only four miles away by road or about 40 minutes walk over footpaths. Blair Drummond Safari Park and The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park are close by. The City of Stirling, with its magnificent castle, historic old town, museum and art gallery, shops, supermarkets and a variety of eating places is an easy twenty minute drive, and the Wallace Monument (Braveheart), Doune Castle (Game of Thrones) and the Falkirk Wheel are all in easy reach, as is Gleneagles Hotel with its array of golf courses, spa, and multiple other activities. Glen Coe, Inverary, St Andrews, the Scottish Borders and Loch Ness can each be visited within a day. Golf courses at Aberfoyle, Balfron, Dunblane, Stirling, and Auchterarder all welcome visitors.
The cottage has regularly achieved a Certificate of Excellence/Travellers Choice award from Trip Advisor and has been awarded a Customers Choice award for 2023 and 2024 by cottages.com. Its EPC rating is C for energy efficiency and B for environmental impact. It’s Scottish short term let licence number is ST00241F.

Leave ReviewStunning! Stirling within easy reach. Cottage with mountain views and very private and peaceful. Woodland walks, dog friendly.
By Janet visitor on 08-Aug-2025When we arrived at Garrique Cottage we were overwhelmed by the location; travelling in from Stirling we realised how close the cottage is to Stirling, but the road in gives you amazing privacy and amazing views which every morning was breathtaking! Everything you need is supplied by the well equipped kitchen. Beds are very comfortable and all cleaned to a high standard. The garden surrounds the property leading to woodland walks, info provided. Parking available right outside. We stayed for 2 weeks, wish it could've been longer! So much on your doorstep... We were greeted by the owners who were so friendly and accommodating but never intruded. 100% recommend.

Lovely Cottage in perfect peaceful location
By Olwen on 20-Jun-2025We had a very enjoyable stay in Garrique Cottage. On arrival we couldn't help but to be impressed with the picturesque views set in such tranquil surroundings. Fiona was a perfect host, from providing a delicious welcome pack, making sure we were comfortable, and imparting local information, enabling us to quickly settle in. The cottage itself was very well equipped, catered for all our needs, and was the perfect base for exploring the local area. Following our holiday we highly recommend this cottage.........thank you Fiona

Perfect cottage in fabulous location
By Nicky Wheeler on 27-Jun-2025This is the second time we have stayed at Garrique Cottage. Fiona and Nander could not be more welcoming and helpful with local knowledge and the welcoming gift of their own honey, eggs and shortbread were very much appreciated. Although we have family living in Stirling, (about 15 mins away) it is the perfect place to stay to give ourselves a bit of independence while being able to spend plenty of time with them. Or that was what we thought before we arrived! In fact they ended up staying with us the whole two weeks to get away from the builders in their house but it worked perfectly. Our granddaughter loved the stream and the woods and our dog felt the woods and the forest were her back garden, excellent for exploring and wonderful walks. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable and so easy with everything you can think of you might need. On top of that of course is the view. Sitting out in the evenings after busy days, drink in hand, looking out over that view - what could be better! Thank you again to Fiona and Nander and hopefully we will be back again soon

Silence is certainly golden
By Carol on 25-Apr-2025Find it difficult to express how peaceful this property is, we have not experienced this degree of total silence anywhere else so far in travels. Only the sound of birdsong to mesmerise your senses further. The property owners Fiona and Nander had fabulous knowledge of their woodland and surrounding walks, they were perfect hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed the never ending Forrest trails right from the door step as did our dog Dexter! The cottage was just stunning, so comfortable, clean, warm and spacious. Would definitely love to stay again and again and again........

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting
By Jonty and Jo Fish on 04-Apr-2025We really enjoyed our weeks stay and can't wait to go back. The cottage has everything you could want with stunning views out of all windows and lots of lovely walks through the woods around the property and further. The cottage's location is perfect for easily exploring castles, lochs and mountains and our boys loved playing tennis too. Fiona and Nander were very welcoming.

Thank you so much for visiting. It was great to see you and the boys enjoying the tennis court. Well done to those who climbed Ben Lomond. There are lots more mountains within easy reach!!
A relaxing, peaceful stay.
By Carole A on 06-Sep-2024Our first visit to Garrique cottage in July this year was really enjoyable so I booked a second visit this September. Since we 're in the process of selling our house, this ensured our expected young guests of some accommodation. Our initial intentions were to visit the various attractions around this part of Scotland but due to health issues. these didn't materialise .This didn't bother us too much because we were still able to relax in comfortable peaceful surroundings. Since the cottage is very well equipped I was also able to enjoy one of my favourite hobbies- cooking. Our two guests however, were able to make full use of the facilities and due to the cottage's location were able to visit St Andrew's, Oban, Edinburgh and Glasgow on different days. Their only disappointment was not being able to enter Edinburgh castle due to lack of available tickets. On their day of departure they took Fiona's advice and booked tickets for Stirling castle and had a wonderful 3 hours exploring before leaving Scotland. When we have settled in our new place in January 2025 we hope to be able to plan another visit but hopefully for a longer period of time.

Thank you Carol. It was lovely to see you both again. I am overwhelmed by your cooking skills. The soup you shared was delicious and original. So glad the trip to wonderful Stirling Castle went well. Looking forward to seeing you both again next year.
