Description
At the heart of Herdwick hut, a wood burning stove provides warmth and a cosy environment in which to relax.Herdwick hut has a stylish “English” interior with Farrow & Ball painted woodwork in earthy tones, stunning interlined curtains in natural fabrics with country designs and English woollen cushion covers. A fitted cosy L-shaped sofa adorned with locally produced sheepskin throws and a generous supply of cushions creates a comfortable space for lounging and relaxing with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
You will receive 2 bags of logs and a bag of kindling for free. Extra bags of logs are £7.50 per bag.
Over 90% of our guests do not require anymore logs than this to operate the hot tub, wood burner and fire pit..
Herdwick hut has a fully-equipped kitchen including a solid oak worktop, a full-size Shaw butler sink and a freestanding electric Smeg oven. An integrated fridge and cupboard, drawers and plate-rack contain all your cutlery, crockery, bin bags and washing utensils. We also supply condiments and sauces.
A firepit on your deck with BBQ grill provides further cooking space and locally sourced charcoal is available to buy from us.
We provide a breakfast hamper sourced from our local farm shop when you arrive and can provide further meals to be delivered or to await your arrival if you wish. These include farmshop prepared ready-meals and local venison steaks or burgers. Delicious free-range eggs are sourced from a small farm in our village.
Herdwick Hut is only a ten minute pleasant stroll through our fields to our local inn The Rising Sun in the pretty village of West Bagborough. Be sure to book for a fantastic evening meal or Sunday lunch.
Herdwick hut has a separate sleeping area with a comfortable queen size bed set in an alcove. A picture window provides beautiful views across the Quantock Hills. A second luxurious double bed is available hidden away in the wall of the dining area during the day. When you’re ready for bed, simply fold this down and a perfect night’s sleep awaits.
We provide all linen and a luxury Devon wool topper and duvet to provide you for a comfortable night’s rest. Extra blankets provided will guarantee you are snug and warm.
Unwind, reconnect with nature and cook al fresco. A Kadai firepit with tripod stand and BBQ grill is supplied on your private deck. Locally produced BBQ coals are available for purchase. (Please order in advance and we will ensure these are stored under your hut.)
A morning sunrise on the deck with a first cup of tea, wrapped snug in a blanket, or an al fresco candlelit dinner admiring the colours and wildlife as the sun goes down really are memories for the making in this very special place.
Enjoy some quality family time with your baby, toddler or young family. Share fresh air, beautiful country walks and local wildlife.
The daybed in each hut can be made up into a mini-bed. We can provide a bed rail and bedding. Small children love the freedom of the countryside. Explore the fields, meadows and many hill walks from the farm to the moors and woods beyond.

we loved the hot tub
By Amber on 29-Nov-2025The cabin we stayed in was extremely cosy and lovely, we loved the hot tub and it was easy enough to heat up in the end. The cabin stayed nice and warm once the fire was going. The views from the cabin were marvellous and so lovely to wake up to. The surrounding area was peaceful and lovely. There was some people that walked by the cabin as it was by a walking path, but if you kept curtains and blinds closed you can still experience the privacy.

By Diane on 17-Oct-2025We loved Herdwick Hut. It was the perfect place to get away from it all and was so well equipped with everything you needed. The shepherd hut conversion is so well done - we were only two but it was great to have the seated dining area as well as the bed/softer seating. We also loved the hot tub, nearby restaurants and surrounding area. We barely left the huts - it doesn't matter what the weather is, they are so cosy. It was hard to pack up and go home!
