Leave ReviewFantastic getaway
By Craig on 12-Aug-2025Swallow Lodge was an excellent choice for our family getaway. The property was exceptionally clean and tidy, with plenty of space for everyone to relax comfortably. It offers stunning views and is ideally located as a base for exploring the surrounding area. The owner was outstanding - welcoming and attentive, which made our stay even more enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will certainly return in the future.
Unclean and run down
By Leanne on 22-Feb-2025A huge disappointment at Swallow Lodge. We booked for a little holiday for two families with children. The photographs of a modern, luxurious and pretty lodge mis-lead us - none of these words fit what we walked into. In brief, it was unclean/dirty, run down and no hot water for our entire stay. Two members of our family went home after the first night. All of us would have left had it not been for disappointing the children. Dirty, uncleaned bathrooms and floors. Entire cutlery draw and cutlery dirty. All usable pans dirty, old food stuck to the bottom. Dirty fridge, freezer and oven. So many flies upstairs, dead flies all over the main bedroom furnishings and in shower cubicle. Hairs all over the sofa bed and floors (pet hair?) Food reminents in dishwasher. Food reminents on benches and in fridge. All crockery and glasses had to be cleaned before use. Dust, cobwebs and dirt on all windows. I could go on. And NO HOT WATER for our entire stay. The place needs a refurbishment. Fixtures and fittings are well past their best, the log burner had broken, filthy glass, it did not look safe to use. Outside area was unkept and untidy, with chairs strewn on lawn. It is very clear that no body is looking after this place or cleaning it. I would never return and urge others to spend their money and their precious family time elsewhere. Don't stay at Swallow Lodge.
Owner response on 14-Mar-2025
In response to your review, the visitor Leanne Herron and her party are a group of serial cheaters and pathological liars, who endeavour to recover the majority of the cost of the booking by any means possible including fabricating, embellishing and enriching the truth, we have had visitors like this before so it is no surprise the lengths these people have gone to, what they do is find a high level holiday let, book it for the minimum period then on arrival set to and make the accommodation look in a desperate state, we have evidence that they took the in house vacuum cleaner contents and strategically placed it in the most unfavourable place, the boiler settings had been deliberately sabotaged, the heating engineers report confirms that! Swallow Lodge benefits from a very high star rating over a hundred + five star ratings on a variety of holiday let platforms, housekeeping are long standing and have received commendations from innumerable guests with a good extrapolated engagement record. I will not be drawn into a slanging match with these undesirables as Swallow Lodge can stand proud of its record in the holiday let market that's why we have bookings into next year and have a high occupancy rate. A notice to other holiday home owners, take note from my actions and don't give way to these unscrupulous individual, they are low unworthy people.

Oli's review
By oliver on 05-Feb-2022Oli User Profile Overall rating 5 Public review David was an impeccable host. The lodge was spotless on arrival. It is perfectly quiet but close enough to the little village of Thornton Watlass and the beautiful market town of Bedale. The property is really well finished and appointed and felt like a home away from home. The kids loved it. David’s communication made everything extremely easy and stress-free.
