We can provide a cot and a high chair for infants.
Parking for 3 - 4 cars.
The Region
Anduze, our local market town, offers shopping, local markets, craft shops, and restaurants. In the surrounding area, there are many local craft centres, vineyards, and museums. From Easter until the end of the summer there is a steam train which runs from Anduze up the beautiful Gardon valley to St. Jean du Gard.
Anduze is the point where the foothills of the Cevennes meet the Languedoc plain. It is, therefore, the ideal base for walking in the magnificent Cevennes National Park using the numerous waymarked trails where you can walk for miles without seeing another hiker. Alternatively, it is possible to explore this wild region by car along the Corniche des Cevennes, visiting pretty mountain villages such as Florac, or the dramatic Gorges du Tarn. Robert Louis Stevenson traveled here and wrote about this region in ‘Travels with a Donkey’. (It is possible to retrace Stevenson’s steps, using donkeys to carry your luggage). The Cevennes has been designated a site of world environmental importance by UNESCO.
Cyclists now have direct access to a local network of Voies Vertes (greenways) which provide over 40 kms of traffic-free cycle routes linking Anduze, Lezan, Cardet, Quissac, Sauve and other villages. Please see the map in our photo gallery.
The Mediterranean coast is within one hour’s drive. The nearest resort is Le Grau du Roi which has long sandy beaches, and a lively old fishing port with excellent fish restaurants overlooking the water.
Nearby are the provençal towns of Avignon, Arles, and Nîmes. They are important centres for arts festivals and concerts throughout the summer months, possess splendid galleries, museums, and restaurants, and have some of the best preserved Roman buildings remaining anywhere. The Roman aqueduct at Pont du Gard is also nearby.
Further afield, the Ardèche valley and the Camargue National Park are easily within a day’s expedition. The Camargue offers opportunities to explore the nature reserves with their flamingos, bulls, and white horses. The Rhône delta has miles of fine sandy beaches.

Return visit
By Julian Cousins on 15-Jul-2023We were lucky enough to win a charity auction kindly donated by the owner Malcolm. Unfortunately Covid hit but our reservation remained valid until we were able to travel. The pre travel information provided was excellent and although the villa is in a quiet rural location, it was easy to find and access. The villa itself is well appointed with all the necessary comforts including wifi which my teenage daughters considered essential! It is spacious and comfortable with well appointed bedrooms. The pool was superb and became the family hub. We enjoyed our stay so much we rebooked. Again a lovely stay, just a very easy place to relax and unwind. The second time I took my bicycle and took numerous routes to the local towns and beyond. Highly recommended for cyclists. Local shops are a car ride away but there are quality local markets and the town of Anduze has every thing you need, including some very decent restaurants. If you''re looking for a place to unwind and relax, go for country walks, explore the nearby towns, this is the place for you. I highly recommended it and would return.
Brilliant pool
By Deborah E on 22-Aug-2015We thoroughly enjoyed our week''s stay at Mas de Costas and wish it could have been for longer. We had a very relaxing time - there was plenty of space and everything a family would need both inside and outside - very well equipped and well presented. The large pool and surround were brilliant - allowing us to cool down, sunbathe and exercise at our leisure. The surrounding area is lovely. Anduze the nearest town has some interesting corners and the local countryside is idyllic - great for walking or just admiring. We really look forward to our return!
Stunningly beautiful
By Jenifer H on 22-Dec-2012The online photos don''t show how stunningly beautiful both the property, its grounds and the surrounding area are. The property is well laid out with doors opening to the outside area from both the kitchen and lounge area. It is well maintained and extremely comfortable both internally and externally. It is situated in a tranquil spot but it is also close to Anduze with its numerous cafes, market, shops, and river. The information folder covers both Anduze and other places of interest. Having spent 5 days in Nimes we particularly enjoyed sitting, relaxing by the pool and reading some of the many excellent books in the farmhouse. The kitchen and eating areas were so well equipped and provided such an enjoyable eating area we spent most evenings eating in. We had no problems during our stay but were reassured that had there been any all the necessary phone numbers, including the English speaking caretaker and the owner, were to hand. The owner provided excellent customer service and dealt promptly and efficiently with all of our queries.
Expectations fully met
By Eric G on 16-Oct-2010The review title is our way of saying that the property was very much as described. The owner was prompt, friendly and professional in all the stages of contact. All the important information was to hand at the property and there were back up telephone numbers if an unknown problem cropped up, which it did not. We actually arrived in the dark and were by then a bit weary, so were pleased to discover a welcoming and stylish house in a secluded and peaceful location. The house was very well equipped and the kitchen had plenty of everything to make eating in very pleasurable. The garden was lovely. We especially liked the fact that there were a couple of bikes which were able to be used and cycling into the village to get bread and croissants was a great way of seeing the locality and building the appetite. We had a lunchtime meal at Les Terraces du Gardon in Anduze, which was very good, a lunch in Florac at Cafe 21 which was basic, and an excellent lunch at La Ferme de Cornadel which was a very memorable restaurant, a place we would definitely recommend. We drove up to the Tarn Gorges on a circular tour one day and came back from Florac via Mont Aigoual another day. My very brave wife had a swim in the pool one day, it probably is a little too cold in October but the pool and its setting looked fantastic and I''m sure in the warmer periods would be very welcome. We felt very comfortable and regarded it as home for the time we were there, we relaxed and read a good deal. The TV and radio had very comprehensive instructions and worked without a hitch. The house brochure was very informative and provided plenty of suggestions for places to visit and places for provisions etc. We enjoyed our stay greatly and will be recommending the property to our family and friends. The deposit was returned in a very prompt manner.
Ideal location
By John Biggins on 17-Sep-2022Ideally placed for exploring this fascinating region, Mas des Costes provides all you need for a fantastic holiday in the South of France. The outdoor areas, pool, pergola, outdoor dining, seating and barbecue areas are particularly pleasurable – and the house remains mercifully cool during hot weather. Well done to Malcolm and Liz for providing great communication and the perfect holiday accommodation at a very reasonable price. Don''t miss Mas des Costes!
