Overview
Description
Equidistant between the popular villages of Windermere and Ambleside, but tucked away in the quiet Troutbeck Valley, is our stunning detached barn. Dog friendly and EV friendly, with a 7kW electric vehicle charger, it is also ideal as a romantic bolt-hole or as a base for exploring the Lakes. It has amazing views across the valley, with it's lush verdant meadows, grazed by the traditional Herdwick sheep. It is eco friendly, and cosy - heated by a biomass boiler and lit with LEDs.On the ground floor is a stylish, modern kitchen with granite worktops and high quality appliances – a full height fridge/freezer, dishwasher, induction hob, fan-assisted oven, microwave and Nespresso coffee pod machine. The views from the window over the valley are fantastic. There is a useful drying/cloak room with a Bosch washer/drier.
Upstairs is a large living space with a Sony 4kTV with Apple Airplay and Google Chromecast, so you can stream content from your own devices on the screen. There is also a Blu-ray player and Bluetooth sound-bar providing lots of entertainment options while snuggled on the comfy sofas. The views get even better from the large upstairs window in this room. Adjacent, there is a romantic and stylish bedroom with a large, comfy king-size bed and solid oak furniture. There is a porcelain tiled bathroom just off the bedroom. This has a shower over the bath and a cute tiny window overlooking a waterfall. There is a balcony door in the bedroom, with a stone staircase leading outside.
There are two patio areas outside - one next to a waterfall (provided that the fells have been wet enough!) and another at the opposite end of the Barn, with a table and chairs, a charcoal BBQ and a great view of the valley.
Spa, sauna, swimming pool and gym access is included, free with your stay.
The Lakes has a good bus service. For those with a car, there is a parking space just outside the barn. This is fitted with a 7kW EV charger for those who wish to bring and charge an electric vehicle.
We are happy to welcome up to two well behaved dogs. However, if you have more than two dogs, feel free to contact us to discuss your needs as we are sometimes flexible, depending on the breed/size etc. No cats allowed, thanks.
The owners provide a breakfast basket including: corn-flakes, granola, brown bread, white bread, conserves, butter, tea, Nespresso coffee pods, milk, sugar.

Leave ReviewOne of our favourite ever cottages!
By Matthew on 01-May-2025One of our favourite ever cottages! Just the perfect peaceful spot in the quintessential English countryside. The place was brilliantly kitted with so many smaller things you end up needing without realizing it. The full length mirror is always appreciated. Fantastic large smart TV with easy login to any streaming service. The “Herdy” theme for the kitchen was really a nice touch. Great big fridge and freezer. Super comfy bed. Nice big couch to relax after a long day of exploring. Alun was a fantastic host. We will definitely be back!
We had a lovely week at this perfect little barn
By Eleanor on 01-Aug-2024We had a lovely week at this perfect little barn and would highly recommend it. Alun was a great host, always replying quickly if I had questions and had lots of local recommendations for things to do in the local area. The house itself was pristine and very comfortable. Everything inside is furnished to a very high standard, and the house had everything we could need. Alun had provided some useful little extras, such as milk, tea and coffee, bread, cereal, butter and jam which was lovely, especially if you hadn’t had time to shop. The outside space has its own little stream running past. A great location for walking or visiting the lakes.
Beautiful barn conversion, exceptionally clean with everything we needed
By Jan on 01-Jul-2024Beautiful barn conversion, exceptionally clean with everything we needed for a comfortable holiday in the lakes. The barn was in a beautiful, quiet, historic location, well situated to explore the Lake District, with views over the fells. We would have loved to stay longer and I am sure we will be returning. Alun was a brilliant host and provided a fantastic place to stay and make special memories.
Highly recommend this beautiful place.
By Ade on 01-Jul-2024Highly recommend this beautiful place. The Barn sits halfway between Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere in a picturesque village of troutbeck, So great for commuting. There is small brook that runs alongside which is a heaven for a goodnight sleep. EV charger was added bonus. Alun was extremely helpful from booking through to departure.
We had an amazing stay at this cottage.
By Oliver on 01-Jun-2024We had an amazing stay at this cottage. As others have said there are beautiful walks on your doorstep. The cottage was spotless and extremely well equipped. Alun was very quick to respond to our requests and eager to help us. We would be happy to come here again in future. We did find the primary parking space slightly difficult but Alun provided 3 other options which were much easier for us and still convenient. Thanks!
We stayed here for a week and were very satisfied with Townfoot Barn.
By Debbie on 01-Sep-2024We stayed here for a week and were very satisfied with Townfoot Barn. It is set in a beautiful location and it has magnificent views of the mountains. We are not experienced walkers so we did a lot of touring by car and knowing that the barn is equipped with an EV Charger, we were able to charge the car whenever needed. The barn itself is comfortable and clean. Listening to the waterfall at the back is so calming and a good way to relax and send you to sleep. All in all a great week’s holiday.
