Location:
Ventnor Town
Ventnor on the South coast of the Isle of Wight is a picturesque seaside resort, and one of Britain's most famous Victorian health resorts due to its unique micro-climate.
The town lies beneath St Boniface Down (the highest point on the Isle of Wight) and for the most part is built on the side of a steep hill leading down to the seafront and beach.
The beach huts that line the back of the beach are converted Victorian “bathing machines” and are available to hire, along with deckchairs and private areas.
Ventnor has plenty of things to do both in the town and nearby.
Ventnor Beach is a great suntrap, and the sand and shingle beach is great for sunbathing and family swimming.
Ventnor Marina and the bandstand development are very prominent on the seafront and offer a great viewing platform to look out to sea, and the Ventnor Haven Fishery sells the best in local crab and lobster.
Opposite the marina the spectacular Cascade Gardens run down the side of the cliff where the main road zig-zags its way back up into the main town.
Further along there is a children’s paddling pool which features a giant map of the Isle of Wight, and from here there are great walks to Wheelers Bay and Bonchurch along the Sea Wall.
A short distance from the seafront at the Western side of the town you can stroll through the beautiful Victorian Ventnor Park. This leads onto the famous Ventnor Botanic Gardens at the Undercliff, where the town’s micro-climate can be truly appreciated in a 22 acre sub-tropical paradise, see if you can spot the indigenous wall lizards here.
A short walk from here and you will discover one of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets, Steephill Cove, which is one of the most relaxing beaches on the Island.
Along Ventnor esplanade there are several pubs, cafes and restaurants offering a variety of food and refreshments, with a number of alternative places to eat further into town.
With the local fisheries there are some great fish and seafood options available at many of the eateries, and some of the local hotels are highly recommended for their fine dining experiences.
In recent years Ventnor has become the regular host of several big arts and culture events, with the Isle of Arts Festival and Ventnor Fringe.
It is also one of the Isle of Wight’s main carnival towns, with daytime and illuminated processions usually taking place during the summer months.
A short drive along the coast is one of the Isle of Wight’s best known attractions, Blackgang Chine, and regular events are hosted here to entertain all the family.
You can enjoy the spectacular scenery from the top deck of one of the regular buses that serves the town.
Catch a bus northwards to Shanklin, Sandown & Ryde, or travel across the Island to Godshill, Newport or Cowes.

Little Grosvenor
By Luke on 16-May-2026We booked this as a surprise for my mother in laws birthday. We contacted the host to ask if we could post a banner, they said yes and kindly put up two birthday banners and the card we sent. Mother in law was absolutely thrilled this made the stay extra special! They loved the location and the house! Thank you so much!
Christmas Break at Little Grosvenor
By Fiona on 17-Jan-2016My family and I had a wonderful break over Christmas at Little Grosvenor. The flat is wonderful, light, spacious, beautifully decorated with good quality bed linen and towels. It is comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen and the added extra of a Christmas tree and fairy lights made our break all the more festive. The welcome bottle of wine on arrival was also a lovely thought and I found the owner friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Little Grosvenor as a central bolt hole to tour the island with the Tennyson Downs and beach walks very close by and a leisurely walk into Ventnor town for everyday amenities or for a drink overlooking the beach.
Luxury apartment in a perfect location
By Karen on 23-May-2016Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this accommodation which was like stepping into a 5* boutique hotel. Owner Claire provides welcome pack and all the guides, maps and recommendations for an enjoyable holiday. Island Holiday Homes great agents getting us cheaper ferry crossings and helpful when making a couple of changes to our booking. Would not hesitate to recommend.
1st Class and Spacious Apartment
By Janet on 30-May-2016This is a wonderful apartment...spacious, modern & very clean., this has to be the best l have stayed in since making my annual visits over the past 10 years. The owner is very welcoming and takes the time to show you around with the 'workings' of all the equipment. Recommendations of where to eat/visit in the surrounding area are also supplied for the first time visitor. The Master Bedroom is very large and very well furnished as are all the rooms., The lounge is beautifully decorated, with coordinating fabrics & furnishings, this will accommodate 6 people with ease. . The kitchen is again large and is newly fitted with good quality appliances, all in immaculate condition. From here there is a door which leads onto a lovely wood decked patio, also well furnished, this has lovely views as it backs onto the downs. This apartment is worthy of 5 stars and l would recommend to anyone who would appreciate the love and care that the owner has put into it. Thank you for a wonderful stay, l do hope that l am able to return on my next visit.
A lovely apartment in a convenient position.
By Jan on 10-Oct-2016We stayed in Little Grosvenor for a week this September. The apartment is large and airy and is styled beautifully by Claire the owner, who resides in the upper half of this Victorian house. The location is spot on with a 10 minute walk to the main Ventnor High St and a further 5 minutes to the esplanade. Claire and family keep a very discreet distance but if you need anything, she is always available. Sadly it wasn't warm enough to sit out and enjoy the lovely terrace and as it is North facing, you need to grab the sunshine at certain times of the day, but overall this was the classiest place we have stayed in, in Ventnor, and we have been there over a dozen times. Would not hesitate to return in the future.
