Leave ReviewAnother Excellent Holiday
By Will and Marg on 21-Jun-2025Having returned to this property for the last five years and having just read the latest, ridiculous review, we can't believe this person actually stayed there. Tracy is the most helpful, friendly host you could wish for. The property, pool and grounds are all beautifully kept and show a true, rural, French property at its very best. We will be back and highly recommend.

Thank you both for your kind comments. We can't please everyone ! Always so lovely to have you here. Best wishes, Tracy x
Disappointing
By Charlotte Eilenberg on 19-Jul-2025Five of us stayed for a week in July 2025. It was a disappointing visit for the following reasons. The outside space is generous and the pool well maintained with various activities provided such as badminton, boules and table tennis. It was a shame that only two table tennis bats were provided for our venue and most of the balls had had their day. As for the 80 acres of Parkland, apart from the walk into town, these proved inaccessible with no clear pathways. On arrival we were met with a five minute lecture on rubbish separation and disposal before we were invited to set foot in the property. We paid £1500 for the week, excluding an additional £64 tourist tax, so it was disappointing to find that the place felt as if it had been furnished with hand-me-downs or at least not refreshed for many years. The furnishings are tired and on the shabby side. The duvets are synthetic and the pillows lumpy, the towels and sheets and bath mats are cheap and ill matching. The sitting room is quite dark and the lighting provided is weak. There are very few power points upstairs. Our hostess’s tone was unfortunate, not to say rude. When we pointed out that two out of three of the bedroom doors didn’t close, this was her response: “to be honest with you, those bedroom doors have never shut in 20 years and you are the first to mention it.” It felt as if we were being impertinent to point out that our bedroom doors didn’t actually close. How difficult is it to ask a local carpenter to make sure they do? And will it take another 20 years? We were provided with only a very few dishwasher tablets for a week’s stay. When I wondered if a few more might be provided, the response was: “As I don’t use a dishwasher, I don’t have endless supplies. I have popped two outside the gite for you.” The house notes instructed us to clean the house before we left or face in €80 surcharge. In approximately 50 years of renting properties all over the world, this is the first time we have ever been asked to clean a property ourselves. There was almost no information about recommended local restaurants, which are after all one of the great pleasures such a region provides and very little information was forthcoming when we asked for it. We are ourselves owners of a much sought after property that we advertise on simply owners. We provide new matching linen and towels, all of high-quality, not to mention enough dishwasher tablets for anybody’s needs. A bit more care about the quality and quantity of what is provided for, and a more welcoming manner towards guests, would make them feel more appreciated and cared for rather than there on sufferance.

Please read all my 5 STARS reviews. ‘Self catering’ means you ‘cater for yourself’! You clearly took offence that I didn't have any more than 6 dishwasher tablets to give you after only 48hrs. Did you really need to be so rude, ungrateful and insulting? Our French barn has quality in-keeping furniture that has been personally chosen, rescued from landfill and lovingly upcycled. Leaving a property as you find it is a respectful thing to do. At least your son told me he’d had a “great time”
Stunning place to stay
By Les Bone on 05-Jul-2025Absolutely beautiful gite in an incredible setting. From the moment we arrived,my family and myself felt completely at home.Tracy was there to greet us and explained everything about the house, pool and surrounding areas. The gite was spotless and has everything you need for your holiday. The pool was incredible and so quiet. The village is only 2 minutes down the lane and walkable if you fancy a leisurely stroll. If you’re after a chilled and relaxing holiday, look no further, this place is incredible!!!

Beautiful and peaceful, most relaxing holiday ever!
By Claire, Justin & Daisy on 27-Jul-2024We had a wonderful 2 weeks at Le Chataignier, the weather was glorious the whole time. The house had everything you needed, the kitchen was super well equipped, plenty of books to read, games to play and a pile of DVDs to watch if you wanted to, we didn't as we far preferred to be sat outside watching the bats or the stars in the evening with a glass of wine. we enjoyed the private pool as well as the boules. So much to do in the area all within about an hours drive. Beynac Chateau a must as well as the little boat trip. Domme was beautiful and the caves a must visit. My husband and daughter visited Padirac caves which were spectacular and about 1 hour 40 mins away. Don't miss a visit to Monpazier, a truly stunning little town. Villefranche du Perigord was gorgeous and had everything you needed for supplies or eating out. Tracy is the most incredible host and you can tell she has been doing this for a long time, she could not have been more friendly and helpful. Whist Tracy and her family lived nearby, you would only see them if you needed them. Last but not least, Lexi and Tyler the most friendliest and loveliest dogs, we enjoyed our daily visit from them in the evening. A truly wonderful holiday in a beautiful part of France.

Beautiful ,peaceful location
By Elaine and family on 04-Jun-2024Stayed at the beautiful gite for 10 days. The location is perfect, we really felt like we were in the countryside. Only noise was the birdsong and the occasional vist from Tracy's two wonderful little dogs. The accommodation is very well equipped with everything you could want for cooking and eating outdoors. Inside was spotless and very cool during the hot days we had. Pool area is great, a real suntrap but with the added bonus of the shelter if it gets too warm. We came without a car and just walked into the village every day. Very quiet but everything you need, two supermarkets, two bakeries and a butcher. Saturday morning Market visit was lovely, lots of veg, cheese and olives! Would definitely return, thank you Tracy.
