Wonderful stay at La Borie Grande. Pool big hit with everyone. Visited some beautiful towns/villages nearby and made good use of the bbq area. Three generations staying and plenty of space for us all.
Very well equipped, comfortable beds, lots of space, games indoors and out, three spaces to eat in sun or shade outside - this is a lovely house In lesser known part of Dordogne, but only 50 minutes from canoeing on the river. Walk to Villefranche du Perigord took 20 minutes with kids. Quick response from Tracy to any questions. Our 3 generation, 9 person family thought it was great,
What a beautiful house and grounds! Tracy was so easy to deal with - great communication and super flexible over our ever changing plans due to Covid. The house is spacious and decorated beautifully. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need, but due to the gorgeous weather we spent most of our time outside, either by the pool or resting in the shade in various different seating areas around the garden. A wonderful view across the valley too - it all felt very private and secure. We hadn't visited this part of France before so were blown away by the beautiful countryside and endless picturesque villages. It's a long drive to the nearest supermarket, which in hindsight we wish we hadn't done on the Sunday morning, as it was expensive and so, so busy. There are two little supermarkets in Villefranche which had everything we could need. Plus it was impossible not to want to eat out (esp lazy lunches) while we were out and about exploring. We do love exploring different places and it's rare for us to want to return somewhere, but we feel as though we only scratched the surface of this stunning region and La Borie Grande would take some beating! So, we very much hope to return (if Tracy will have us!). We were a family of 6 (2 teenage daughters + older daughter and boyfriend). Loads of space for all of us - the bedroom layout would really suit two couples with kids too. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing week at La Boire Grande, The house and grounds were beautifull with so many different areas to sit and admire the view. The private pool was a great size with plenty of loungers and shade. The village is only a short walk and is really quaint with great facilities including a lovely evening food market and a great baker’s. Tracy was a great host, on hand to help with tips on things to do locally including a day of canoeing on the river which was brilliant fun. We would highly recommend this lovely Gite in a superb location and we hope to be back soon.
We had a fantastic stay at La Borie Grande in Aug 2020, as two families with younger children. Due to the uncertainty around COVID-19, it's worth mentioning the excellent and proactive communication prior to our stay and I'm so pleased we decided to go on holiday. The property is in a beautiful location, the huge grounds immaculately maintained and property clean throughout. Being an old farmhouse, the owners have retained its charm and decor with some quirky pieces of furniture and ornaments, whilst equipping it with everything you'd expect in a top quality modern rental. We loved using the outdoor dining space with the BBQ and pizza oven allowing us to cook many of our meals outside, although the kitchen was sometimes a welcome retreat from the heat of the day! For us, the icing on the cake was the fantastic swimming pool area and gazebo, allowing the adults to cool off in the pool and then sit and chat (and maybe have a drink or two) whilst watching the children playing in the pool for hours on end. Not to mention watching the shooting stars from the balcony in front of the house, incredible! We couldn't recommend the property highly enough and there is also so much to do in the area. We had some great days out to Limeuil and Rocamadour to see the apes and the birds, kayaking on the Dordogne from Vezac to Vitrac and hiring bikes in Castelnaud (both recommended by the owners). A definite must is Le Chien Vert in Besse, which became our favourite eatery!
Our third stay at this wonderful property! Our host Tracy was the best as usual, always a warm welcome and makes you feel at home. Her family have built something incredible here! Each time we visit there is something or somewhere new to explore. The well planted and colourful grounds around La borie grande are always well kept and provide a safe and beautiful place for our young to explore nature and see things that you just won’t see if you live in the city - friendly squirrels, busy bees, hungry horses and my favourite the humming bird hawk moths to name just a few! The facilities of the house itself were spotless and very well equipped for anything and everything. Although if the weather is good you may not spend much time inside other than to cool down, it’s just too nice outside! Just walk out the kitchen under the ivy covered walls and go find a comfy nook to sit and read a book, the crystal clear pool and shaded pavilion to escape the heat of the day, the pizza oven terrace to sit and share a meal with friends and family or the raised terrace with a view of the valley to sit and watch the sun go down. If you want to see something not many people see anymore then stay up a few hours after sunset and look south, the night sky and view of the milky way is incredible here in these almost untouched dark skies! This place has it all and it feels like a second home to us, it gets harder to leave each time. But we will be back next year! Until then, à la prochaine!
