Sans Souci Gites - TournesolsSans Souci Gites is our home as well as our business and we seek to make your stay here a magical experience. Our three Gites are very well-equipped to be a home from home, offering excellent holiday accommodation: A choice of two 2 bedroom and one 3 bedroom, up to a maximum of 14 people, Comfortable lounge with both UK and French TV, Fully fitted kitchen, Private secure garden with areas for both relaxing and dining with a gas barbeque, WiFi around the site providing the best connectivity we can deliver in country France, Child safety gates provided for the stairs (we have one cot and two high-chairs available on request), and Secure off-road parking for all our guests. The communal areas around the pool and front gardens provides plenty of space for everyone. The vista is very tranquil and in the middle of summer the sunflowers add a very magical sight. We have a 6m x 12m heated swimming pool which has a large lounging area with uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside. Adjacent to the pool is a communal area which offers shade from the grapevine covered pergola. We have a “Chillaxing Zone” with comfortable seating for reading, reflecting or just snoozing throughout the day. The front of our property offers an area where games can be played, including Boules (pétanque) on the driveway and croquet on the lawned area. The area is secured with electric gates. We are trying to be environmentally friendly, so we reduce our impact on the planet. To date all the exterior lighting, pool heating and entry gates have been changed to solar power, with interior lighting changed to LEDs. We also recycle as much as we can and provide facilities to make it simple for our guests to make a positive contribution as well. Through the summer months we maintain the gardens and pool to ensure that they are presented at their best. We aim to keep noise to a minimum including using battery powered gardening equipment.
The south-west corner of France is stunning, and there is so much to see and do here. Whether you are looking for quiet forest walks, to visit the coast or take time for museum visits or family activities, there are lots of options available. Within 30 minutes of Sans Souci Gites Dampierre-sur-Boutonne This beautiful renaissance chateau is only 5 minutes away. Destroyed by fire in 2002, restorations are nearing an end. Coupled with beautiful gardens and a maze, this is a wonderful place to visit on a sunny morning or afternoon for a stroll, bike ride or picnic. After visiting the chateau walk around the corner for drinks and a meal at the local bar/restaurant. Zoodysee Only 10 minutes this zoo offers more space for the animals and is involved with many preservation projects. You can stroll through the trees admiring the animals or take a horse-drawn carriage to save energy. An enjoyable afternoon for all the family. Saint-Jean-d’Angély Historic town with the Abbey Royale, clock tower and fountain. Nice for a stroll around the shops or lunch in one of the many cafés. Large Park with children’s play area and lots of ducks and geese to feed. Next to the park is an aquatic center which is definitely worth a visit during any inclement weather. Surgères Pretty and historic market town. Take 10 minutes to have a walk around the gardens of the Mairie which is a favorite for picnickers. Closest TGV station. Marais poitevin Aptly called ‘Venise Verte’ because of its canal network. Great place for an afternoon’s trip when the heat of the sun has gone. ‘Do it Yourself’ or get a gondolier to do it for you!! Many riverside restaurants offering a good selection of meals for midday or evening. Niort Great shopping!! If you want to shop until you drop, visit Espace Mendés France on the road to Poitiers. Port Miniature, Saint-Savirien-sur-Charente Replica steam boats and ferries etc… This is a lovely place to visit for families with small children. Children above 9yrs old can navigate their own boat, whilst younger children need to be accompanied by an adult. A restaurant, cafe and picnic tables are also available. Saintes Large pedestrian shopping centre with the advantage of historic monuments within walking distance. Many good restaurants for an evening meal.
Tournesols is our largest 3 star rated Gite, a spacious three-bedroom high quality gite with its own private rear garden overlooking open countryside with private eating and lounging areas. Downstairs has a large lounge with WC and a separate spacious fully equipped kitchen /diner There is both French and English TV (Freesat), a DVD player and a music docking station. The lounge has a working log burner for early or late season evenings when things start to cool down. There is free WiFi on site offering the best connection that French country living can offer. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, and all the required crockery to prepare and deliver home cooked meals. Upstairs there are two large double bedrooms and a smaller single bedroom. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and an ensuite shower room with sink and WC. The second bedroom can either be made up as a king size double or twin depending on guest personal requirements. The third bedroom is equipped with full sized Ikea bunk beds suitable for children or teenagers. The family bathroom has a large shower, with sink and WC. Outside there is a private garden to the rear with both an eating and lounging area with high quality furniture, offering uninterrupted views of the countryside. There is a gas barbeque with a gas bottle for your free use. To the front, there is secure off-road parking and the pool, communal and games areas are all just a few steps away. Tournesols is the perfect Gite for a larger family or two couples and two children.
With flexibility to accommodate parties of 2 to 14 people, this is a great place for families large and small or friends who wish to holiday together. The location is ideally situated to access many attractions within an hour’s drive including west coast beaches, La Rochelle, Cognac, Niort, Poitiers, national parks and Futuroscope. Classified by Charente Tourism in 2023 we are proud to have been awarded a 3 Star rating for Tournesols and Wisteria Gites and a 4 star rating for our executive Gite Wheatfields. Each gite is presented with its own individual character and finished to a high standard of comfort to make your holiday a home from home experience. Each gite has a lounge with both French and English (Freesat) TV and free WIFI. The kitchens are all fully equipped to ensure that you have everything you need. And a private, secure garden with both lounging and dining areas and a gas barbeque. There is a 6m x 12m heated swimming pool, communal dining and lounging areas as well as a games area for boules or croquet. The site is secure with gated access to ensure that everyone is kept safe. There is off-road parking for each gite. Local amenities are just 5 minutes’ drive away Co-op, boulangerie, pharmacy, and post office. Large supermarkets are located to the north (12 minutes’ drive) and to the south (20 minutes’ drive). The owners live on site with their two small friendly dogs to ensure that you receive a personal welcome on arrival and to ensure the site is maintained in a pristine condition throughout your stay.

To reserve the property, the Client should confirm availability with the Owners and complete, sign and return the booking form. The Owners will request the payment of the initial non-refundable deposit of 20%. Following receipt of the booking form and deposit, the Owners will send a confirmation email with an updated copy of the booking form as formal acceptance of the booking.

By Suzi Cook on 16-Jul-2025This place is a hidden gem! This was our second visit to Sans Souci Gites and we had a fantastic stay. The Gites have absolutely everything you need and are finished to a high standard. Lovely private garden for relaxing in the evening and there's plenty of outdoor communal seating areas and a wonderful heated pool. The gites are suitable as a base for many different types of holidays - if you have a young family there's a play area, lots of outdoor games and of course the pool. For couples looking for a relaxing retreat there's the option of having a massage (which we did and it was brilliant!) plus we had a group yoga session next to the pool. Lots of places to explore nearby such as La Rochelle and Cognac. The Gite Owners arranged for us to have a private tour of a local vin yard which was really interesting. Can't recommend highly enough. Thanks to Linda and David and their pooches Willy and Harry!

Tucked away in the French countryside, it’s the perfect place to completely switch off and relax The gîte itself was spotless and had thoughtful touches throughout. Very comfy beds and a fully equipped kitchen, everything was just so easy. The outdoor space is a dream, especially the heated pool. But what really makes it special is the warmth and care from the hosts. You feel genuinely looked after, like you’re staying with family, but with all the privacy you need. I would highly recommend staying here!
