Overview
Description
In the heart of the smallest city in England, a few minutes walk from all amenities, this pretty, period, welcoming, Georgian house offers an ideal base for sampling the delights of Wells, for absorbing the historic atmosphere. and exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. Unusually for a city property it has a lovely, peaceful, mature garden. It is a pretty house with character, in a street where all the houses are similarly interesting. It has a lovely, light dining room with glass door that overlooks the garden where there is a table and chairs. The kitchen is modern, well equipped with wooden work surfaces and slate floor. The sitting room is extremely spacious, warm and comfortable with a wood burning stove TV/DVD and video library. The house is lit well with thoughtful decoration. The main bedroom is very pretty and light with a king size bed. The house has a wood burner stove and central heating and is warm and cosy in the winter. The WI-FI is very good and there is a range of books, DVDs games and magazines for the quiet days! During fine weather it's possible to sit outside in the pretty, secluded garden and forget you're in the town centre!
Apart from the magnificent cathedral (housing one of the earliest mechanical clocks in existence and Vicars Close-the oldest continuously inhabited medieval street in Europe). Wells is a beautiful market town offering a range of cafes/bars/pubs/restaurants and some lovely shops. Wells itself is within easy reach of Bristol, Bath and the limestone based Mendip Hills-offering attractions such as beautiful walking and nature reserves, Glastonbury, the haunted Wookey Hole Caves, Clarks Village, The Roman Baths, Cheddar Gorge, the SS Great Britain, Clifton Suspension Bridge, fantastic shopping and so much more!

Leave ReviewExcellent Stay
By Margaret on 26-Sep-2025The Green House is perfect for a stay in Wells. It is extremely well equipped, clean and comfortable. Only a few minutes walk from the Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace and very close to the main shopping area. We have stayed in Wells several times but the Green House is by far the best accommodation we have had. Communication with the owner was excellent especially as we booked at the last minute. We will certainly book the Green House again. Very highly recommended.
Home from home in great location
By Linda on 21-Aug-2025Would highly recommend the Green House. From the moment we arrived it felt like home. so much so we extended our stay by another 3 days. It is very comfortable & is really well equipped to self cater. All the little extras make such a difference. The location is great as in the centre of Wells but with a very the peaceful garden to relax in. We parked in Silver Street for free which is few minutes walk away & considering it was bank holiday, we always found a spot. The owner (Kim) communicated with us so well & was really considerate, thank you. Our first visit to Wells but we are sure to visit again as we loved it & the surrounding areas. Thank you for making your cottage such a special place to stay
Fantastic Place

Excellent location and lovely house to relax and enjoy Wells.
By David L on 13-Feb-2019Lovely house, very well equipped and superb location in the centre of town. We had a lovely stay and thank the owners for creating an inviting house with so many well thought out touches. Highly recommended.
Excellent Town house close to the wonderful City Centre
By Steve B3422 on 30-Oct-2016We stayed at the Green House for just 3 nights on a late decision to visit Wells. We were not disappointed with the house or the City. Throughly enjoyed our stay! The booking was easy with great comms. The house is charming, well decorated and bigger than expected. The photos don't do justice to the place. We asked and were allowed to bring our dog with us. The house is an easy five minutes walk away from the City centre. Everything is close by. There is no parking during the day outside the house (except for loading and unloading) but we parked on Silver Street which is 2 mins walk away. I would highly recommend staying in the Green House if you're visiting Wells.
Beautiful property.
By Catherine M on 21-May-2017Ideally situated, just a few minutes walk to the many shops and eating places in Wells. Also close to the wonderful Cathedral. The property is utterly charming, whoever chose the furnishings and décor has a deft touch, we thought it was fab ! Very well equipped in the kitchen, lovely comfortable beds with good quality linen. There are lots of books, dvd's and games, should the weather be inclement. The garden is beautiful, lovely to sit in, of an evening. 10 out of 10,......PERFECT !
