Description

A very old, traditional Grade II listed cottage of character locally reputed to be the birthplace of Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots, it is situated in a tranquil hamlet on one of the lesser used roads within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a most peaceful location - sheep and curlews are probably the greatest noise offenders -but is only 7 miles from Leyburn (all facilities) and 5 miles from Middleham (village shop, pubs and restaurants). The nearest pub, the community owned Forester's Arms, is 2 miles away in Carlton.
The house is well equipped and comfortable with central heating and a solid fuel/wood burner. WiFi. The galley kitchen has an Everhot cooker, a microwave and a washing machine plus an adjoining pantry with a large fridge/freezer and a tumble dryer. The separate dining room seats six easily. In the sitting room the FreeSat TV has an inbuilt DVD player. Upstairs, along with the three bedrooms, there is a family bathroom plus an adjacent shower room with the w.c. Downstairs is another w.c. One bedroom can be prepared by prior arrangement as a single, twin or double. Also available a travel cot, though bedding for this is not provided. There is a secure walled front garden, a garage for one car (which gives access into the house) and parking for another. There are excellent walks, short or long, from the doorstep but with attractions and restaurants for you to discover both nearby and further afield. Or just relax in the garden and watch the world go by, albeit very slowly!

Beautiful stay

By Charlotte on 29-Aug-2022

We have stayed at Manor House twice and hope to stay again in the future. It is a beautiful cottage in a wonderful location, it is well equipped, cosy and very family friendly. The owner is so helpful and friendly. I fully recommend this as a lovely place to stay and enjoy North Yorkshire.

Manor house. Perfect get away from it all!

We recently stayed at manor house ,which is situated in the very small village of west scrafton. The house is full of character, with every amenity you need. Excellent WI-fi, ( if you are one of those who can't live without it. Ha Ha.) The house has a lovely cottage garden in the front ,where we would sit of an evening spotting birds that we don't see very often in the city. All the villagers were very friendly. It was a great base for us to explore the dales. This cottage is a place we would certainly recommend.

A really pretty well equipped and comfortable cottage in a fantastic location

Juliets cottage is beautiful we had a lovely week there. Manor House is a a great historical and spacious property with a lovely garden and a garage to park our car. We were impressed with how well equipped the house was with everything you could need for a holiday in the Dales. We enjoyed some lovely walks in the amazing country side around west Scraffton. We will definitely return great place for rest and relaxation.

A real countryside holiday

We enjoyed a lovely week at Manor House in July 2021. The cottage is very well equipped, the rooms are of a good size and the cottage is well located for exploring the Dales and very quiet. West Scrafton is a small hamlet of around 20 stone cottages, all very well maintained and the locals were very friendly. The cottage enjoys beautiful views over the Dales and great for local walking if you don't want to use your car much. By way of an update to prior reviews, there is now free Wifi at the property. The mobile phone signal is intermittent but we could get a signal just outside of the cottage. There is also a landline and an honesty box if needed. It was lovely to see the cattle being driven by the front of the cottage. The local roads are narrow but we didn't encounter much traffic thankfully, hence the beauty of the peace and quiet, farm animals excepted!. Thank you Juliet for making our stay so memorable and for your helpful advice throughout.

Manor House is just perfect for a break away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The location is great for enjoying the Dales and the house is so well equipped and spacious that you will want for nothing.
