Whitby has become the one of the most popular destinations on the North Yorkshire coast. It is dominated by the cliff top ruins of its 13th century Abbey and famous for its connections with Captain Cook and Dracula. There are many good restaurants locally and numerous very good fish and chips shops including the celebrated Magpie Cafe. There is a good golf course on the cliffs between Sandsend and Whitby. Further to the south is Robin Hoods Bay and the lovely Victorian seaside town of Scarborough (home to the Stephen Joseph Theatre where Alan Ayckbourn premieres all his plays).
A visit to the area would not be complete without a trip to the North Yorkshire Moors (the spectacular scenery was featured on Richard Wilson's 'Great British Drives' programme). The NYMR steam railway operates between Whitby and Pickering taking in some tremendous scenery which featured in the popular television series ""Heartbeat"" and the James Herriot books.

Leave ReviewGreat house in perfect location.
By Linda on 17-Nov-2025We were five adults and four children aged 6, 7, 9 and 10. The Moorings was ideal for us. It’s comfortable, stylish and well equipped. The crockery, cutlery and glasses plentiful. The kitchen dining room perfect for our family group. Two big sitting rooms, one with a tv. It’s well placed in Whitby, we didn’t use our cars as everything in easy walking distance. We will return and would recommend.
As wonderful as always
By Sharon on 24-Oct-2025Just returned from another amazing week at The Moorings. Our family of 11 have stayed here many times and have already booked for next year. We love Whitby and this house is located close to everything. It is immaculate and very well equipped with everything you will ever need. Parking for 3 cars is an added bonus.
A wonderful break in October. Always good weather.
By Janice Hoyle on 17-Oct-2025My family and I love this house. Plenty of room for 9 of us. The kitchen is fully equipped. And there are plenty of bathrooms. The house is immaculate. And 3 parking spaces are a bonus. The position of the house in Whitby is so convenient for everything. Cannot find fault. Will definitely stay again.
Perfect accommodation and location
By Lynn H on 28-Jul-2025We booked The Moorings for a birthday/family get together. In our party there were 4 couples and 4 children. The property with two lounges was large enough to seek adult free spaces whilst the children played but large enough to come together. The kitchen was fully equipped and the large dining table provided good family time. The seating outside provides a lovely space for morning coffee whilst we planned the days. The location is quiet in the evenings but close to all amenities. Bothams bakery was just a few minutes stroll of a morning to buy fresh pastries and the luxury of three parking spaces allowed us to enjoy Whitby on foot. The property was clean and tidy, functional and suited all our needs. Would certainly recommend
