Larpool Mill is a luxury five-bedroom, stone-built property, formerly a flour mill dating back to the early 1800s. Set within private grounds of approximately three-quarters of an acre, surrounded by woodland and crossed by a gently flowing stream, the mill offers a rare sense of space, privacy and tranquillity. Located on the edge of Ruswarp and just around a mile from Whitby’s historic harbour, it provides the perfect balance of countryside calm and coastal charm.The mill has been lovingly and thoughtfully restored to create an exceptional retreat, allowing guests to enjoy the very best of both country and beach life. During the renovation, elements of the building’s industrial heritage were uncovered and carefully preserved, and these original features now form an integral part of the property’s character and charm. Finished to a consistently high standard throughout, Larpool Mill offers the same quality and attention to detail as its sister property, Misty Cottage in Whitby — something reflected in the wonderful feedback from previous guests.
Accommodation is arranged over three floors, with four beautifully appointed ensuite bedrooms within the main mill and a fifth ensuite bedroom located in the separate annexe, ideal for guests who may appreciate a little extra privacy.
The ground floor features a spacious kitchen and dining area, perfect for sociable cooking and relaxed meals, alongside a formal dining room that comfortably seats twelve. A welcoming lounge with an inglenook fireplace and wood/coal burning stove provides a cosy and inviting space to unwind after a day exploring the area.
On the first floor, there are two ensuite bedrooms and a snug/library area. A firm favourite with guests, this space includes an iMac, television, Nintendo Switch, a selection of books and plenty of board games. Two single guest beds can also be set up here if required, allowing the room to be used as an additional sleeping area, with bathroom facilities shared with one of the nearby bedrooms. Original beams that once supported the workings of the millstone have been restored and remain a striking feature of this floor.
The second floor is home to a further two ensuite bedrooms, offering calm, comfortable spaces to relax and recharge.
Outside, the gardens are beautifully maintained and wonderfully secluded, with the stream running through adding to the sense of peace and escape. There are several areas to explore and enjoy throughout the grounds, including a pergola with an outdoor dining area seating twelve — perfect for long summer evenings. Ample parking is available on the driveway for up to six cars.
