Although there is plenty to do in the immediate area, it is easy to travel to other parts of the Lake District via car, bus or boat. The cottage is situated in a quiet street very near to all amenities and yet, in 20 minutes, you can walk up to Orrest Head to see a fabulous view of the lake! In the evening, the proximity to the village of Windermere and its restaurants and bars means that you can very easily walk to get a meal or a drink. This spacious Windermere cottage offers three bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, and an additional shower room. There is also a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable sitting room with an electric fire and a large bay window, and a separate dining room. The efficient central heating system ensures that the Windermere cottage is cosy whatever the weather. Outside is a small front terrace, whilst to the rear there is a yard with a table and chairs, and your own off-road parking area - very useful in Windermere village, which has many visitors to its shops and cafes.
Located in the heart of the Lake District, with the quaint Cumbrian villages of Ambleside, Hawkshead and Grasmere, all within 15 miles of your Windermere cottage, there are lots of pretty places to explore. Pack a picnic and head up Orrest Head, highlighted by fellwalker and author, Alfred Wainwright, for breathtaking views across Lake Windermere, or meander down the Lake on the Windermere Steamer to Lakeside and enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, and the Haverthwaite and Lakeside Steam Railway. The Old Laundry Theatre has a variety of productions during the year and there is the Royalty cinema at Bowness for a rainy day!

Leave ReviewLovely and spacious
By J S on 13-Sep-2025This is a lovely and spacious property. Very clean and comfortable. It has everything you could need for a great self-catering holiday. The off-street parking is brilliant. The location is perfect for a stroll around Windermere or to catch a bus or train. The box of shortbread was a nice touch, thank you.
Lovely cosy Place

Fabulous
By Ruth on 22-Aug-2025Perfect location for anything you could need, and exploring countless sights. We're a family of 5, parents and young adults, we hiked, boated, braved zip wires, toured the towns, visited tge Castle, ate at the restaurants. Fair oaks is a perfect base, plenty of space for us all, safe private parking, cosy and homely, lovely helpful touches and super comfy beds to flop into after a long day. Highly recommend
Fantastic cottage
By Patricia on 02-Mar-2025An absolutely fantastic cottage." Very warm and comfortable. Lots of information and ideas for places to visit from Sarah as my son has mobility issues. We enjoyed it so much we stayed for a 2nd week (luckily it was available). We cannot wait for our next visit. Thank you Sarah.

Lovely Home!
By Gill and Helen on 03-May-2024Lovely home! Thank you tosarah for the changes your team did to make it allergy friendly. Beds are a little soft but good sleep was had. Well equipped and appointed home. The parking space. Is invaluable! We took in a show at The Old Laundry Theatre on a tip from Sarah. We’ve walked every day, mostly taking ‘Miles without Stiles’ routes. Weather, unusually, has been kind with only one wet day - Sudoko was learnt! Will recommend.
