Overview
Description
Mere lodge is situated on the outskirts of the lovely Worcestershire village of Hanley Swan, with its local pub/restaurant, village duck pond, shop, churches, and not far from the village primary school and village hall. Very close by is the Three Counties Showground which holds events year-round, and not far from that is the Worcester Golf Club. Also nearby are fishing lakes, South Worcester shooting ground and opportunities for horse-riding.Malvern is a few minutes' drive away, a small town with theatre, cinema, large Priory church and local shops; it is famed for its' water cures in Victorian times and its' illustrious visitors to them.
Malvern, the Hills and Worcester are at the heart of Elgar country; his birthplace is now a charming NT museum near Worcester, and the Elgar Route can be followed by car around the areas from which he drew inspiration for his famous music.
Malvern is also home to the Morgan Motor Company and their visitor experience is highly recommended (booking essential). Nearby is Eastnor Castle, home to the Land Rover Experience. The hills are a very popular attraction for walkers, hikers, mountain bikers etc., and are easily accessible with many car parks for visitors all along their length, 13 miles north to south.
Worcester is about 20 minutes drive away; where the Cathedral, Commandary, Bishops' Palace, Diglis Canal Basin form the centre of this very historic city on the banks of the River Severn. Although no factories remain, a museum of Royal Worcester Porcelain can be visited on the factory site, and across the river from there is the Worcestershire Cricket Ground, New Road.
Mere Lodge itself is built entirely of real logs, with a grass roof and surrounded by a small garden and a pleasant west-facing patio with seating.
There are 2 double bedrooms (2 double beds), a full bathroom ( bath with shower over, hand basin and toilet, heated towel rail), a separate cloakroom with toilet and hand basin, with hanging space in both. The fully functional kitchen includes all mod cons, including dishwasher and microwave, full size fridge-freezer, washing machine, integrated oven, hob and extractor fan, plus external extractor fan.
Linen is provided; snowy white sheets and towels for four guests; bedding linen, duvets, pillows and all kitchen linen. Also provided are cleaning materials (washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc).
Situated in a lovely quiet spot at the end of a short country lane, the lodge is surrounded by fields on two sides, looking directly at the Malvern Hills; the patio faces the hills and is furnished with weatherproof table, comfortable chairs and parasol.
Well-behaved family pets are welcome by arrangement and at no extra charge. The lodge is next to a bridle path leading to the Hills, and a footpath, and there is no passing traffic. Guests really need a car, but shop and gastro pub /restaurant are within walking distance. Parking space for two or three cars is adjacent to the lodge, and the entrance to the front door is suitable for disabled access
Normally bookings are weekly, Sunday to Sunday, but in mid- or low- season reservations can be arranged for shorter periods; all bookings are arranged by phone and that is the fastest way to secure your reservation which is confirmed once a deposit has been lodged. Stays for shorter periods are occasionally available, particularly at the last minute. Changeover day is normally Sunday, largely to accommodate those visiting or exhibiting at the showground, and rentals are set at £600 in 2025, and £630 in 2026, per week all year round, with a minimum charge of £250 for any stay.
