Regina My Response
The villa is beautiful & well equipped. It is also well serviced. The maid and gardener turn up when they are supposed-to, and do a really thorough job. We had one issue & the property manager answered the phone straight away & came round within the hour to sort everything out. All are nice friendly people. The pool is a good size & depth, & there is enough space to position loungers for sun or shade as you wish at any time of day. It is still just possible to see the sea from the edge of the infinity pool, but the trees growing down-slope have obscured the view a little compared to the picture-postcard - a pity. The pool is screened by lovely shrubs & trees providing a good degree of privacy. There is a lot of space outside, with the pool area, veranda & roof-terrace, so its easy to either be sociable or get a bit of quiet-time as you wish. The village seems to have been badly hit by the recession. Of the two taverna's in the village one was closed throughout our fortnight there. Messages on a blackboard often announced it's re-opening, but it didn't happen. The other one, on the opposite side of the village to the villa, was fine with good food at reasonable prices and friendly staff. The village has clearly been extended in recent years, but most of the properties in the new area were empty when we were there, giving it a 'ghost-town' feel. Not necessarily unpleasant, but 'vibrant' it isn't. Similarly, the only shop in the place, in the 'Natalia's Houses' complex, was mostly shut, and when we did catch it open it had a very limited selection. However the lady there was extremely nice and helpful. You're going to need a car to bring supplies back from Kalyves, which has enough shops & taverna's to supply anything a holidaymaker is likely to want, and the drive there & back isn't too bad once you've got used to the two hairpin bends. One tip: don't drive through Kalyves itself. The streets are narrow & busy. Instead when you get to the T-junction with the main coastal road head through a gap in the wall opposite onto a rough beachside car-park & walk from there. Kalyves is small enough to get around on foot. On cars, be careful how long it is. We had a Volvo S60 and it was a pain to get in and out of the gates. Shorter = better! Finally, I come to Oliver the resident cat. He's old but a real charmer, and kept well fed he keeps the many other cats away. A win-win for him and us. We'd definitely like to come again some day.
