I have recently returned from a very memorable family holiday, at villa Ionia, to celebrate my Mother's 70th birthday. It was my first visit to the beautiful island of Corfu and I doubt I could have found a nicer place to stay. Ionia is a lovely stylish villa in an idyllic setting with magnificent views from both the large open plan living area and the well equipped poolside. In addition to the luxurious living space Ionia boasts four double bedrooms, each of which benefits from en suite facilities. Although far enough away to allow for total relaxation and privacy Ionia is just a stones throw away from the delightful resort of Arillas where you will find a choice of pleasant, inviting and affordable restaurants.
Villa Ionia is perfection. It nestles gently on a hillside olive grove overlooking Arillas, close enough to allow you to drink cocktails on the beach at sunset but far enough away to make you feel that you're within touching distance of heaven. As four lifelong school friends we celebrated 200 years of friendship and gorgeousness in a villa that technically sleeps 12 but could comfortably accommodate 20. With a fresh and calm double en suite room each and a huge amount of indoor and outdoor space to relax in, Ionia provided us with every luxury needed to ensure the perfect break from busy lives. John and Iannis met us at the airport and offered to drive us to Villa Ionia which was appreciated after a long journey. When we reached the villa, the view from the panoramic floor to ceiling windows was breathtaking as was the champagne chilling in the fridge! The stunning infinity swimming pool helped us keep cool as the sun beat down on the private deck and the giant shaded marble table was a perfect spot to enjoy long, lazy lunches. The car was ideal for popping to the supermarket or picking up freshly made bread from the local baker in the morning. Arillas is a 20 min walk downhill but a more challenging hike on the way back, so John advised us to pop into the family run Arkokal Travel to arrange taxis home - well worth the 7 Euros! Arillas isn't the most picturesque village in Corfu but it's comfortably one of the most friendliest with a warm atmosphere and great tavernas serving local dishes. John was the perfect host all week and saw to our every need, including driving us into the mountains for lunch at Foros Taverna, Old Peritheia cooked by Thomas and his wife (of Rick Stein fame). John also showed us the stunning delights of Akrotiri Lounge perched on the hill top overlooking Arillas and Agios Stefanos, where we could have stayed forever drinking cold wine and watching the the sun rise and set. Ionia was so enchanting we were reluctant to explore, but Corfu town and the monastery at Paleokastritsa were worth a visit. Corfu surprised us on so many levels including the lushness and similarity to Italian landscapes. Villa Ionia, Arillas, our host and our holiday were faultless - thank you, will definitely return one day x
From beginning to end our Villa Ionia experience was absolutely amazing, John the owner was wonderful from beginning to end. We were concerned about arriving on the late flight and he asked a friend to meet us at the airport and showing us the way! Thanks again to Ian for taking us there! Upon arrival we met Marketa at the house, she was going to be our contact whilst in the villa and she made sure everything's was perfect for our arrival, much more than we could've expected, wine, cheese, fresh bread! We certainly hadn't plenty to enjoy our late check in and not have to worry about stocking th eladder till way after breakfast! The villa is everything and more than I had imagined, we had everything we needed at any time, perfectly equipped with great quality everyday items which made us feel really at home. There is space and harmony in this house, you have several areas to relax and enjoy the views. The pool is clean and fresh and again overlooking a wonderful scenery sea, town, mountains. The house and grounds are fabulous, the views form all the terraces and the sun deck are inspiring. I feel you want a hassle free holiday in a wonderful place and the best service Villa Ionia will certainly not disappoint! Thank you all for letting us into your home and letting us share your bit of heaven!
