Description
La Fucina nestles above the Serchio valley which runs through the Garfagnana area of Tuscany, north of the historic walled city of Lucca, not far from the medieval town of Barga. The private pool is 10 by 5 metres and enjoys stunning panoramic views of the Serchio valley and the Appenine and Apuane mountains. The pool is south facing and in full sunlight from dawn to dusk.La Fucina was transformed from a barn into a comfortable dwelling house in 2006/2007. This barn renovation retains all the character of a Tuscan country dwelling with chestnut beams and terracotta tiles whilst giving the guest all that is required for modern living.
Running along the two double patio doors coming from the open plan kitchen and living room is a substantial patio which catches the morning sun and is shady in the afternoon. This is perfect for those who need the shade in the hot afternoon. Another patio complete with a dining suite of teak garden furniture, seating from 6-8 people is situated between the house and the pool. This also enjoys panoramic views of the valley and is ideal for alfresco dining. A barbecue is provided.
The private pool is edged by lavender and vines it is easily accessible by the semi-circular Roman steps leading down into it. La Fucina is comprised of approximately one acre of terraces containing vines, orchards and a vegetable garden.
There is a large bathroom on the first floor with a shower, sink, toilet and bidet. There is also a utility room with toilet, basin, washing machine/tumble dryer, iron and ironing board on the ground floor.
Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Pool/Beach towels are also provided. Changes of bed linen and towels are provided weekly. The spacious ground floor has an open plan kitchen, dining room, living room with a fully sprung sofa bed. The property can sleep 6 people.
The Wi Fi / internet access and UK TV access is included in the price.

By Jon Ward on 24-Aug-2025While the actual living accomodation and pool are fine. There were a number of issues. Firstly no microwave or BBQ, meaning I had to go and buy a BBQ for the owner and build it. Not a word of gratitude for this. Secondly, the quarry in the valley below starts work at 5am and continues until 4.30pm. The noise of diggers etc. reverberates through out the valley. Not a nice wake up call. Lastly, the treacherous track to the property from the road. Be warned, it is not for the faint hearted and may damage hire cars unless they are SUVs.

What I find most disappointing is that this individual has posted a review which has little resemblance to our interactions, is replete with inaccuracies and hyperbole. Our only interactions related to a microwave and a barbeque. I have never had a microwave in the property and the barbeque had been damaged and not yet replaced at the date of his stay. he was informed accordingly. This individual demanded a barbeque during his stay, he fails to say that I paid for the barbeque or that I transferred £150 to him immediately and without delay. As for the other matters contained in his review, exaggerated or otherwise, these were not discussed during his stay. These matters are certainly not characteristic of other peoples' stays; are not on my property, are controlled by local commune or other communes across the valley and at some considerable distance. It rained during this individual's stay, I am surprised that he did not complain about this in his review!

Bellissimo! Perfect Base for Visiting Toscana
By Marc Teal on 10-Aug-2024The house is in excellent condition, nice and clean and everything we needed Kids loved the pool. Views are lovely. Perfect base for visiting Lucca, Pisa and Florence. If you visit in August, make sure to visit Barga for "Sagra del Pesce e Patate". Would definitely recommend staying here. Many thanks to Ruth for a helping us have an amazing Tuscany holiday.
Well, talk about exceeding expectations, .......
By Alun McIntrye on 28-Sep-2023Well talk about exceeding expectations, La Fucina is certainly "secluded but not isolated". It is very a well equipped, comfortable villa with extensive grounds and a wonderful pool. We enjoyed our stay enormously, easy to reach shops within 5km, just an hour from Pisa Airport and 20 minutes to Lucca, the old walled city. Pizza bar nearby in Cardoso, just up the hill and other restaurants nearby. We have been doing gite and villa holidays for the last 20 years and this is definitely in our top 3.
