La Fucina nestles above the Serchio valley which runs through the Garfagnana area of Tuscany, north of the historic walled city of Lucca, not far from the medieval town of Barga. The private pool is 10 by 5 metres and enjoys stunning panoramic views of the Serchio valley and the Appenine and Apuane mountains. The pool is south facing and in full sunlight from dawn to dusk.
La Fucina was transformed from a barn into a comfortable dwelling house in 2006/2007. This barn renovation retains all the character of a Tuscan country dwelling with chestnut beams and terracotta tiles whilst giving the guest all that is required for modern living.
Running along the two double patio doors coming from the open plan kitchen and living room is a substantial patio which catches the morning sun and is shady in the afternoon. This is perfect for those who need the shade in the hot afternoon. Another patio complete with a dining suite of teak garden furniture, seating from 6-8 people is situated between the house and the pool. This also enjoys panoramic views of the valley and is ideal for alfresco dining. A barbecue is provided.
The private pool is edged by lavender and vines it is easily accessible by the semi-circular Roman steps leading down into it. La Fucina is comprised of approximately one acre of terraces containing vines, orchards and a vegetable garden.
There is a large bathroom on the first floor with a shower, sink, toilet and bidet. There is also a utility room with toilet, basin, washing machine/tumble dryer, iron and ironing board on the ground floor.
Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Pool/Beach towels are also provided. Changes of bed linen and towels are provided weekly. The spacious ground floor has an open plan kitchen, dining room, living room with a fully sprung sofa bed. The property can sleep 6 people.
The Wi Fi / internet access and UK TV access is included in the price.

A Great Time

"We had a great time staying here. It is calm and relaxed place. The house is lovely and well equipped. We enjoyed the pool, with a great view over the valley and Barga. The vegetable garden is fantastic. All week we ate fresh vegetables (courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes and peppers). Ruth is very friendly and helpful."
Thank you .

"We spent in August 2019 a wonderful week at La Fucina with our two kids. The garden and the pool are fantastic and the house is really comfortable and has a wonderful flair. The kitchen is very well equipped and even a BBQ grill that we did use. The coast is only 1h car drive away and we spent two great days at the great beaches of Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio".
A Place to Relax

"Absolutely fabulous place to stay, tucked away in the mountains. We wanted a place to relax and eat good food and that is exactly what we got and more. Thank you!!!"
We had a lovely holiday at La Fucina .
By Lindsey, UK on 01-Sep-2018
We had a lovely holiday at La Fucina which was a great villa and very well equipped (including an impressive selection of DVD!). We very much enjoyed relaxing in the spring-fed swimming pool and having barbecues in the garden, surrounded by beautiful views. We drove down the hill to eat at the local restaurants a few times and the villa is well-located for easy drives to Lucca, Barga and the supermarket. The lane that leads from the road to La Fucina required some care due to a sharp turn, however this is not a problem if you are careful. The owner was very helpful and prompt in responding to any questions we had both before and during our holiday and we would certainly recommend it for a relaxing family holiday.

Great spot with an amazing pool, fed by spring water and a balmy 29C-30C. La Fucina is a lovely character property surrounded by its own small holding/fruit and veg plots - we picked our own tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and apples. The grapes were just beginning to ripen as we left. Fabulous! Decor is pleasantly simple but comfortable, which suits the nature of the old barn. Shutters mean you can keep the sun out and the interior cool during the day. Even in this summer's fierce heat, the bedrooms were pretty cool at night (there are fans in each bedroom). The access road is a bit bumpy - best approached from the uphill direction. We ate mostly in Barga (8km away) and had a couple of barbecues in the garden. Also enjoyed venturing up into the Apennines to Le Mostico restaurant - views are stunning. A totally different side of Tuscany with steep, wooded hillsides and a lot more "local" than elsewhere.
Nice place to enjoy Tuscany

Private Villa and Pool
By Mark Collins on 22-Jul-2017
Beautiful Villa and pool with stunning views of the mountains. Loved our stay. Villa well appointed, nicely decorated offering all required facilities and more. Perfect base for exploring Tuscany or simply relaxing at the pool.
Wonderful views, great place to stop and unwind.

Simple journey - fly into Pisa then an easy one hour drive to La Fucina (easy to drop by the Tower en route). The villa is comfortable and clean with a wonderful outdoor area for meals and/or simply lazing by the pool with the wonderful views as the sun tracks over through the day. The main bedroom has views across the valley - had the great experience of sunbathing by the pool as we watched thunderstorms roll around the other side of the mountains all afternoon. Nearby there's an easy-to-reach supermarket to stock your fridge and lots of typically Tuscan towns to explore from nearby Barga (10 mins) to Castelnuovo (20 mins) and the fantastic Lucca (30 mins). A lovely place to chill out. Easy to reach, great to stop, explore or balance the two.
Perfect position for exploring the region!
By Natalie Zammit on 19-Sep-2016
We had the most wonderful 10 days at la Fucina. Beautiful setting, fantastic pool and homegrown vegetables in abundance! The villa is perfectly placed to explore the region and was close enough to everything we needed, whilst being seculuded and private at the same time. Ruth has thought of everything that a family might need to enjoy their stay at La Fucina. A car is a must! The local towns and villages were amazing and we look forward to another visit soon!
Perfect Tuscan Break
By Andrew M. on 28-Jul-2015
We had a wonderful time at the house. So peaceful and quiet. It's a wonderful spot. The weather was very hot and the pool at just the right temperature. The house is lovely nd perfect for our holiday. The surrounding hill towns are well worth a visit. Barga old town is a real gem with good restaurants.

Thank you, we really enjoyed our stay. The house and the grounds are charming, we ate tomatoes off the vine. The pool was incredible, just as you said, totally private and the views were stunning. Thank you for the recommendations for the local restaurants, they were very good, but we didn't get to dine there much as we couldn't get the children out of your fabulous pool. Happy Children = Happy Holidays.
