This is a lovingly restored and very well equipped house with a beautiful terraced garden which has a private swimming pool. There is an enormous living room and kitchen, furnished with interesting period country furniture and 3 bedrooms, 1 double and 2 twin rooms, sleeping 6 people. A free wi-fi service is available. The house is in the interesting ancient village of Cardoso, with views of the fine church and over to the Appenine mountains. There is a bar and pizzeria in the village and the village is well known for the art exhibition it holds each summer. The art city of Lucca is only 30 minutes drive from Cardoso, and in the other direction the beautiful Garfagnana with its national parks is also only 30 minutes drive. We give detailed local information and recommendations.
Garfagnana is 'Hidden Tuscany' at its best. With its' stunning scenery it is the best area in Tuscany for walking and outdoor activities. Friends of Tuscany are the oldest agency in the area, and we have close ties with an Outdoor Activities company who offer many international class adventures including electric mountain biking. We can also offer Art classes with a well known artist, excursions to the Cinque Terre, Florence and Lucca, visits to vineyards, historical guided tours and Italian cooking lessons.
Friends of Tuscany can help you arrange a pre-arrival shopping service, and also a prepared Tuscan meal for your arrival.

Beautiful setting, spacious and characterful accommodation, good location, well equipped, fab views
By Suzanne A on 05-Sep-2016
It was a wonderful, tranquil place to get away from it all. The written description and photos were accurate but the place was even better than the photos! The setting was perfect with lovely views of the mountains. The property was well kept, very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The garden was very pretty with lots of areas to sit, eat out and relax. The pool was clean and beautiful and had the added bonus of inflatables etc for the children. Good quality loungers and sunshades. The gym was a luxurious bonus. It was great to be able to walk into the very pretty medieval village (three mins) and have a drink at one of the two bars, You can also get ice-creams, basic provisions, bread and lunchtime snacks. The other bar also serves delicious pizzas. What more could you need? Although quite a long, winding drive up from the valley, the property was well situated to reach the main road, with supermarkets and restaurants no more than a 15 minute drive away. Lucca is very easily reached (35 mins), perfect to visit in the late afternoon/evening. There is a lot to see and do in the area, we wished we had had more time to explore further into the moutains. Barga is well worth a visit across the other side of the valley. Florence is a good day-trip out, we took the train from Lucca (1.5 hrs) as it seemed easier, and no problem with parking. It was very helpful being able to speak to the English-speaking friend of the owner who was on hand if we had any issues. We would thoroughly recommend this property for a family of four or six, probably with childen over the age of 6 as there is a high up out-door terrace off the kitchen, and the stairs are not suitable for toddlers. The pool, however, is fenced with a lockable gate. Can't wait to return there one day.
