The owners were incredibly welcoming, and gave us super information about the local sites, towns and restaurants etc. They were equally respectful of our privacy and yet were happy to help if we needed anything. The villas were beautiful, rustic and very comfortable, the pool was gorgeous and the spacious gardens gave the whole holiday a wonderful Tuscan atmosphere. We were able to travel to all the key sights from this location, Florence and Pisa etc and had the opportunity to explore the quiet countryside and hills too.
Villafontanella is a delightful holiday destination, our last minute family holiday (6 of us) couldn't have been better. We drove (you'll need a car, the house is tucked away up in the hills) & made the journey from the UK part of our holiday, with a couple of overnight stays in Germany & Austria on the way. Jonathan & Simone were so accommodating and hospitable & nothing was too much trouble. They welcomed us, showed us around & answered any questions we had - including a tutorial on the pizza oven. They popped in once or twice to check the pool & if we were there, it was lovely to spend time chatting & finding out a bit about the history of Villafontanella. The house was everything we needed, with pleasant & sizeable garden and well kept pool. We spent some days just chilling around the house & pool but we also explored Pisa, Florence, Lucca (the nearby walled city - well worth exploring) & various other villages & towns for which the house was a great base. Ideal for a peaceful getaway in comfort.
I can highly recommend this beautiful villa. Perfect for two families as there are two separate houses but the dining and social areas are big enough for everyone to be together. There is a huge garden with a fabulous pool. The villa is in a very quiet and rural location, but not cut off. You can easily reach the local village to pick up supplies, or take a scenic 15 minute drive to a larger supermarket.
