Description

Fully refurbished Cortona, Tuscany villa- Secluded and Tranquil with Stunning Views, but Very Near Major Towns
San Marco's drive winds through its olive grove, passes its wrought iron gates and up its avenue of pencil pines before arriving at this classic Italian villa, where our wonderful 'housekeeper' will greet you. Completely refurbished & with a brand new pool and a wonderful poolhouse, the tranquil Villa San Marco is set in its parklike grounds of 4 acres, surrounded by fields, yet it has stunning views down the valley to Lake Trasimeno and also up the hill to the Etruscan city of Cortona, which alone would take many weeks to explore. The villa is spacious, bright, beautifully decorated, elegantly furnished with many antiques and it has a warm family atmosphere. The refurbishment created 7 new bathrooms (1 in the poolhouse), 2 fabulous 'cooks' kitchens (one indoors and one outside), a breakfast room with doors opening directly into the ivy-clad pergola, total redecoration and huge 'behind the scenes' improvements, e.g. air conditioning in all the bedrooms and the study, satellite broadband, very high specification and "green" hot water, heating and electricity systems, including an induction hob, though there is also a gas hob in the pool house.

Fabulous villa in 4 acres below Cortona- pool and wonderful al fresco cooking

By Claudia on 04-Aug-2021

Wonderful villa that goes above and beyond expectations. From my initial communication with Andrew, to his very capable point person Cornelia, who handles all our questions and needs during our stay. This villa feels like home and it has all the character one looks for in Tuscany. All the bedrooms were comfortable and well appointed. The living space very convivial, the kitchen beyond equipped, truly a chef’s dream. The second kitchen in the pool house was fantastic, giving us options to have meals by the pool. Loved the outdoor wood-fire oven and BBQ. The vegetable garden in the of the house is wonderful, so many things we prepared came straight from there. Location is incredible, it took a flash to get to Cortona and exact 7 minutes to a great supermarket, and 5 to a lovely small market near the house. I can clearly recommend this dream place in Tuscany, enjoy it! Date of arrival - 20 July 2021

A Tuscan. Delight

By Barney C. on 06-Aug-2016

This is the second year that we have stayed at this Villa, with another family. The accommodation is five star with every amenity you could wish for. Rooms are large and comfy. the pool is a delight, but the star for us was the outside pizza oven which we used pretty much every night. The housekeeper was on hand when required, the pool cleaned regularly and Sabrina the cleaner was just fantastic. Enjoy the fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden.. I was happy to chill for 3 weeks and ventured out only seldom - other''s were more adventurous and found transport links good - only 45 minutes from Perugia airport, and 10 minutes from Camucia railway station with high speed links. No hesitation at. All in recommending this villa highly. Published 29 Aug 2016

Our ideal family vacation

By Runa Brinkmann (Denmark) on 24-Jul-2019

In previous centuries, Villa Marco could have served well as the seat of a roman magistrate or the country court of a Florentine aristocrat. Instead, it served my family as a modern and accessible paradise-for-rent during our 2019 Summer holiday. Whether you are looking for a rural or urban getaway, this villa affords it all and lets you tailor your own ideal vacation to Italy. The location offers a bucolic atmosphere with an idyllic view of the Tuscan countryside, yet the driveway leads to the nearby Cortona, and is only a short distance from the larger cities of Florence, Sienna, Montepulciano, and Castiglio de Lago. The amenities in this place were more than sufficient to keep a group of 10 clean, fed, and rested while also affording privacy and space to work remotely. The wifi kept everyone connected, no one in our company required distraction from swimming in the pool, playing ping-pong, walking around the quaint neighbourhood, or relaxing comfortably indoors. The two kitchens, a large in the main house and a smaller one by the pool, made cooking a breeze and provided plenty of space when cooking for all or separately. Our responsive and attentive host was careful to provide us with answers to all the questions we could think of, while the cleaning staff worked meticulously and unobtrusively to keep everything in spanking condition. Even with our high expectations going in, nothing could have prepared us for the perfection of Villa Marco - the memory of which we will always treasure and hopefully revisit. Where to unwind

By Danil Nevsky (Spain on 27-Oct-2017

Mr Stayed at the Villa for our Autumn vacation with a group of 6 friends from all over the world. This was our annual retreat & stumbled upon this beautiful place on the internet. In the words of tattooed millennials everywhere "No rugrats" is the tagline of the trip! From being greeted by the steward of the house who took care of all our questions, needs & wants from the moment we stepped off the plane to just settling in with a book & some delicious local red win in front of the fireplace in the living room. If there is a place you can relax, eat good food, unwind from all the world problems & jump into a cold pool in the mornings to cure the hangover from the night before this is YOUR VILLA! This one is going to happen every year from now on methinks.... Group | stayed in 10/2018

Ticked every box for all 3 generations

By Monika (UK) on 31-Aug-2017

We had a wonderful time in your villa! It ticked every box and worked perfectly for all of the family (3 generations). We enjoyed it so much we struggled to go on some of our previously planned day trips! We all left feeling extremely happy and relaxed. Thank you for all of your care and attention throughout the booking process. All very much appreciated. Group | stayed in 8/2017

Something for Everyone and Blissful Relaxation

By Emma & Richard (U.K. ) on 27-Aug-2017

This was our third visit to the wonderful Villa San Marco, this time with family that we don't get to spend much time with and it was the perfect setting for the grown up cousins to get to know each other again! Whilst we knew what to expect in terms of facilities, we were impressed with Andrew's new instructions on keeping the house cool, which were successfully adhered to - most useful, given the temperatures we experienced during the heatwave. The pool really was our sanctuary - and what a pool! So well maintained and managed by the visiting poolman and a luxury to spend time in! The hammocks in the shade of the oaks were a welcome refuge from the midday heat for some, whilst others preferred the sunny location of the larger hammock. The cinema room was fantastic - cinema quality sound and vision; the use of Netflix was a welcome update giving us more options. Cornelia is so much more than the housekeeper and what she doesn't know about the area isn't worth knowing....she is also great company and we have enjoyed lively conversation and getting to know her during our visits. Yet again, the salad and herb garden provided a bountiful harvest for us during our stay and was lovingly tended by Sabrina and her husband on their visits. During one of the driest periods in recent years, it was a delight to be able to enjoy the colours of the flowers, thanks to the ambitious automatic watering system in place. We were delighted to find the second almond tree this year, as well as enjoying the damsons at breakfast time..... Unsurprisingly, we lived by the pool, enjoyed the games but the real treat was the bonding over the outdoor cooking well into the evening! There is a wealth of fascinating places of interest in nearby Cortona - a 30 minute walk uphill for the energetic, or a 5 minute drive away......if you're able to tear yourself away from the villa! We WILL be back - thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home! Family with older children | stayed in 8/2017
