Description

Our family run holiday agency, Friends of Tuscany Ltd, will manage all aspects of your villa booking with tailored information to get the most from your holiday.

Dardano is just 3 km from the centre of the splendid hilltop town of Cortona.

Dardano is a deceptively large house, full of atmosphere. It is a lovely country home full of charm.

Outdoors, it has a vine-covered area for shaded outdoor eating. The garden is a neatly mowed meadow with glorious views of the surrounding countryside, while the large outbuildings house a barbecue, an outdoor kitchen a table football and give welcome covered parking.

1st floor

A flight of steps leads to the front door and into the old farmhouse kitchen and living dining space. The stone floor and old fireplace, with medieval “spy hole”, has authentic Tuscany stamped all over it.

You will be charmed with its comfortable bedrooms, ancient arched windows and huge old beams. Also on this floor are a compact double bedroom, a large bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom with shower.

2nd floor

From the living space you climb the characterful stairs to reach the tower, which covers two floors. The double bedroom at this level has an en-suite bathroom (with shower) and the stairs continue (without a door) to the double bedroom at the top.

Outdoors

The pool was built with safety in mind: it s 3 ft 9 ins deep and completely fenced for total peace of mind.

There is a table football at the house, a nice BBQ area and a lovely covered pergola where you can sit under in the mid day sun.

Surroundings

Cortona is only 3KM from the house and easily accessed by bus or taxi or car. It is also possible to walk there. Locally there is an excellent minimarket that stocks speciality products as well as two excellent restaurants approximately 5 minutes walk away.

It takes approximately 5-10 minutes to get to Cortona centre by car, there are car parks on the outskirts. There is a bus that you can take a few minutes walk away from the house and it takes about 15 minutes to get into the centre. Alternatively, to walk it takes 40 minutes. There's a train station in Camucia which takes 8 minutes to drive to, 30 mins by bus or a 50 minute (easy) walk.

Cortona

Casa Dardano is just 3 km from the centre of the splendid hilltop town of Cortona, featured in the popular movie, "Under thre Tuscan Sun" The Tuscans are not noted for their modesty and in the case of Cortona, they haven’t held back in their urge to demonstrate its ancient origins. Annio Viterbese, who wrote a 15th Century version of The Rough Guide, would have us believe that Noah was so taken with “the altitude, the amenities and the air of tranquility,” that one of his offspring, a certain Crano, was detailed to create this delightful little walled citadel. Noah saw that goodly works had been done and bestowed the name Corito (derived from the Latin word for sceptre, the symbol of a king’s power) on his relative, and thus Cortona got its name. Whatever the truth may be, there is no doubt that Cortona is indeed ancient, and within its walls you’ll find eateries, smart shops and a museum housing the famous Etruscan lampadario.

There is a table football at the house, a nice BBQ area and a lovely covered pergola where you can sit under in the mid day sun.

The owner, an excellent cook, will cook a special Tuscan meal for anyone who books 2 or more weeks.

Things to note;
Cleaning fee of €100 due to owner on arrival in cash.
€1.50 per day per adult tourist tax due to owner on arrival (max 5 days chargeable).

Broadband (wireless), washing machine, barbecue, table football, covered parking. €50 pet fee, returnable €250 damages deposit is due to the owner

The house was interesting and historic, while spacious and comfortable. There was more than enough room and the location is perfect to explore Tuscany and Umbria. The check-in process was easy, and our hosts Paolo and Carla were most gracious in their welcome. During the stay, they even had to dinner at their home. This turned into an even of multi-course Italian delights and interesting conversation. Overall, I'd rate the house and experience very highly.

There is hardly anything more that I could have wanted from a rental in Tuscany that Dardano did not provide. The setting in the middle of an agricultural plain, surrounded by red poppies and sunflowers was an incredible sight. I was not prepared to be in a house filled with so much history and rural charm. It is idyllic! Your agency and your staff were outstanding. The rental and the payment went smoothly. The directions to the rental were perfect and meticulous in detail. The photographs and descriptions of the property were completely accurate. I would have no reservations about using Summer’s Leases for my future vacation rentals. The owners of the property, Carla and Paolo, were perfect hosts. Every detail, from welcoming flowers and wine and a nice historical tour of the house to the absolute guarantee of privacy made our stay enjoyable. Dardano is well furnished and equipped with everything you would ever need. A car is essential, but driving distances to grocery stores and other services are minimal. The house was in a perfect location for our explorations of Cortona, Lake Trasimeno, Assisi, Perugia, Deruta, and Pienza and Montepulciano on day trips. We made short train trips to Florence and Rome. After a day of journeys, we just sat back on the front porch with a glass of Vino Noble and watched evening unfold complete with the sound of frogs and owls and the magic light of fireflies! Thank you for a perfect rental experience. You all are great.
