Overview
Description
Il Nido del Falco — the Falcon’s nest — the name says it all. Perched high on the medieval town wall of Ficulle, you’re awed by soaring views of the Umbrian countryside dotted with hilltop towns, olive groves, and majestic mountains, all while being serenaded by swirling clouds of singing Martins and Swallows. What started as an 11th century town and castle with possible beginnings as a trading station of the Roman Empire on the ancient road between Orvieto and Chiusi, is now surrounded by stately vineyards producing DOC Orvieto wines, enticing restaurants, and unique artisan workshops.
Access is a cinch, located less than an easy 10 minute drive from either the A-1 exit or the Fabro Scalo station, a transferless train ride from both Rome and Firenze. While many similar towns are strictly bedroom communities, Ficulle has several restaurants, bars with surprising night life, specialty food purveyors, and full service grocery stores, allowing you to relax locally without the need of a car.
For those who want to venture out, sites abound with medieval towns, Roman baths, and picturesque hiking and biking trails.
The property itself is amazing, steeped in traditional Italian design, yet abundant in modern comforts.
Oriented to the west, you’ll awaken slowly to a muted sunrise gently bathing a totally unobstructed panoramic tapestry of unspeakable beauty — framed in the bricked Romanesque arched window, you’ll think you’re in the Uffizi rather than your own comfortable bed.
In the bathroom, you’re lavished with a heated floors and towel rack and both a 1.5 meter claw foot bathtub and spacious shower.
The well lit kitchen and great room is apportioned with hand made terra cotta tile, modern appliances, preparation island, and vintage wood stove for additional warmth.
Both floors are equipped with radiative heating panels and split air conditioning units so you’ll be comfortable no matter the season.
But the jewel of this property is access to the 27 m² rooftop terrace. Here you can view sunsets with a relaxing drink or an entire meal prepared either on site in the fully outfitted adjacent kitchenette (eliminating the need of bringing your meal up the stairs) or catered by one of the many local kitchens. Commanding the preeminent view envied by the entire village, you’ll come to truly realize the namesake of this property.
