Description

INTRODUCING DJAR TA MENZJA 3 - by Jules

"Step through the front door of this Gozo holiday villa you’ll find an authentically rustic blend of stone arches wooden beams and Gozitan floor tile mosaics. It’s a colourful refreshing space that feels even bigger and brighter thanks to the light that pours through the terrace doors.

All three of the Djar Ta’ Menzja holiday homes carefully balance the modern with the traditional. You can see the thought that’s gone into every tile frame and arch – and I think you’ll agree it has paid off.

One of the very best aspects of all the Djar Ta’ Menzja homes is their year-round appeal. In summer enjoy the peaceful lure of a lazy BBQ by the pool terrace. During the cooler off-peak months sample the extravagance of champagne in the hot-tub. It’s the most relaxing of vantage points from which to enjoy the countryside views.

There’s additional underfloor heating air conditioning and an open fire for warm winter breaks on Gozo. And the communal gym and sauna (shared with the two other villas) means that whenever you choose to stay this house has a lot to offer" - Jules.

Location: Sannat village

The name Ta’ Sannat possibly derives from an Arabic-Greek family who moved across from Sicily. The village lies in the southerly end of Gozo and is best known for Ta’ Cenc plateau. This fantastic plateau of typically Maltese flora and fauna overlooks the Hanzira Valley - a natural gorge with steep rocky sides separating Ta’ Sannat from Xewkija village. The plateau can be found at the edge of the village close to the highest cliffs in Gozo - the Ta’ Cenc Cliffs. Down from the Hanzira valley you find Mgarr ix-Xini Bay a particularly delightful spot for swimming and diving.

Aside from the splendid views Ta’ Cenc is a place of natural interest as a number of prehistoric remains have been found here including the remains of the ancient L-Imramma Temple (a roughly shaped horizontal limestone slab supported on three sides by blocks of upright stone).

The village is also known for gaining independent parish status in 1688 making it one of the first Island villages to do so. The church today dedicated to St. Margaret the Martyr was built on the site of an earlier church. This earlier church dating back to 1718 was consecrated twice - once in 1755 and again (after the significant structural changes) in 1868. While you are there take a look inside at the fine altarpiece by Stefano Erardi. The village festa celebrating St Margaret takes place around the third week of July and is always worth watching.

The nearest local Supermarket is 300 metres from the farmhouse with larger shops in closeby capital of Victoria 2.5KM away A regular bus service operates from the village into Victoria. You only have a 300-metre walk to find a selection of restaurants and bars.
