Overview
Description
Originally built in 1840, this traditional Tuscan farmhouse and Metato (chestnut drying store) was abandoned in 1946 and later restored from complete ruin. The sensitive restoration, completed in 2009, carefully preserved the building’s character using traditional materials such as chestnut beams, while incorporating modern standards and facilities for comfortable living.Set within approximately 5 acres on the south-facing slopes of the Parco Naturale delle Alpi Apuane, the property enjoys breathtaking views across the Turrite Valley towards the Alpi Apuane mountains. A 10-metre swimming pool provides the perfect place to relax and take in the scenery.
Access is via a gated private drive from the public road, leading to a spacious parking area with room for up to six cars, also ideal for ball games and outdoor activities. From the parking area, you pass the pool on the right, followed by the entrance to the upper Metato (king-size bedroom with en-suite bathroom) and then the lower Metato (twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom).
The main farmhouse is entered on the middle level into a fully equipped kitchen. To the left is a separate dining room, while to the right is a comfortable sitting room opening onto a veranda with lovely views.
The upper floor comprises a main king-size double bedroom, a single bedroom, and a family bathroom.
The lower floor offers two twin bedrooms, a bathroom, and a utility room.
The adjacent Metato provides additional accommodation, featuring a king-size double bedroom and a twin bedroom, both with en-suite bathrooms and separate private entrances.
All rooms are furnished in a consistent style, as shown in the photographs. Additional photographs of the property, grounds, and surrounding landscape will be added shortly.
For families, the pool area can be fully enclosed and gated, and the area immediately outside the ground floor is also fenced, while the wider grounds extend beyond. There is an outdoor dining area with BBQ, several peaceful spots for relaxing, and ample recreational space for children to play.
Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and mobile phone reception is excellent.
The Area
The property is ideally located for exploring this unspoilt part of Tuscany, renowned for its dramatic mountain scenery, wooded valleys, and traditional villages. A selection of excellent local restaurants and trattorias can be found within a short drive, offering authentic Tuscan cuisine made with local produce.
Despite its peaceful and private setting, the farmhouse is well positioned for easy day trips to some of Tuscany’s most celebrated cities and landmarks, including Lucca, Pisa, Florence, and the Tuscan coast. This makes it an ideal base for combining cultural sightseeing with relaxation in nature.
The area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, with opportunities for hiking and walking in the surrounding national park, kayaking on the nearby river, and enjoying the natural landscapes of the Alpi Apuane. The scenery is particularly beautiful in all seasons, making it suitable for both active holidays and tranquil retreats.
A large supermarket and additional services are located approximately 25 minutes’ drive from the property, ensuring convenient access to supplies while preserving complete tranquillity.

Family Holiday
By Shirley F on 30-Jul-2023The communication from Mike throughout was excellent. The property itself was spacious, well equipped and has several terraced areas, which are perfect for either a large family or 2 x families. Because it’s in the mountains the views are absolutely outstanding, we spent many evenings sipping wine and playing games on the terrace. The pool area is spacious with plenty of Sun loungers and there is a large parasol to give shade when needed. We did many a trip out but we especially enjoyed Lucca which is about 45 min away and Barga which is about 30 min away. The local shop ( down the mountain) has a reasonable supply of goods and lovely fresh bread. We also ate at Da Sandra’s which was very good and reasonable. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, which we didn’t want to end.
A Perfect Tuscan Retreat
By Ali A on 30-Jul-2025A perfect Tuscan retreat A beautiful farmhouse in a stunning location. The house was clean, tidy and well equipped with comfortable beds and ample space to sit both inside and out for dining and relaxing. The views are quite spectacular and waking every morning to open the shutters to this was breathtaking. The metato was superb and made a great space for my sister and her family to stay in, containing separate bathrooms and tea and coffee making facilities. 7 of us stayed very comfortably within the main house and 3 in the metato with room for another. The pool area was especially relaxing, with a good sized clean pool, a table chairs and sun loungers. Most importantly, there were sun umbrellas and plenty of shade in all the seating areas. Plenty of board games and books are provided and the sitting room is a perfect space for all sitting together. The local Spar provides most of the basics and is around an 8 minute drive away.We cannot recommend this property enough, Mike was brilliant at communicating and sent us all the information we needed for a very smooth stay. We were all very impressed and sad to leave this little piece of Tuscan heaven.
Beautiful Stay
By Jakob M. on 30-Sep-2024The house is an absolutely stunning location. Breath taking views every morning, even if the weather did always play ball. There are some lovely areas to walk in and explore nearby and a few very nice local restaurants but these can get booked up very quickly. Even when it was raining we enjoyed our stay as the dense forests provided plenty of cover and there are excellent trips to caves and nearby cities such as Lucca and Barga that are easy drives. The roads in the valley are quite narrow but traffic is generally very light so you I'd recommend not renting an SUV as it makes it much more challenging to pass other cars at points.
10/10 Excellent
By Stefan G. on 30-Sep-2025The house is situated on a steep slope with sweeping views of the densely wooded mountains. A place to find peace and quiet, beautifully rambling with various seating areas to enjoy. There are, of course, a few steps to climb. Parking is no problem, the pool area is fantastic, and there are good opportunities for cycling (though the terrain is very steep) and hiking. We were a group of ten, the rooms were great, and the indoor and outdoor seating areas were excellent. We were very satisfied.
Großes Haus in Alleinlage
By Alexandra M on 30-Aug-2024Besonders gut hat uns der Pool gefallen.
