Description
Villa Petrolo is a magnificent 18th-century Tuscan manor house, built by the celebrated architect, sculptor, and medallist Massimiliano Soldani Benzi as his personal residence. Today, it stands as the historic heart of the renowned Tenuta di Petrolo, available for exclusive holidays, weddings, and private events, offering an exceptional setting for large groups seeking space, service, and authentic Tuscan grandeur. The villa can accommodate from 17 up to 33 guests, with 16 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, arranged across three floors and more than 800 sqm of interior space. Rental prices are calculated for 33 guests, while reduced rates are available for groups of up to 17 guests — please enquire for tailored pricing.
Villa Petrolo is surrounded by over one hectare of private gardens, with formal lawns, an ancient stone fountain, centuries-old cypress trees, and woodland, all set within the wider Petrolo estate of vineyards and olive groves. The atmosphere is refined yet welcoming, with interiors that retain the traditional “Tuscan landed gentry” character, featuring antique furnishings alongside both historic and contemporary artworks. Often described as “the Downton Abbey of Tuscany,” the villa has hosted international figures including former UK Prime Minister David Cameron and is also known to welcome renowned chef Jamie Oliver.
The villa includes a private swimming pool (6 × 12 metres), a private tennis court, billiard room, table tennis, Sky TV, Wi-Fi, multiple fireplaces for cooler months, and extensive reception spaces, making it equally suited to relaxed family stays or elegant celebrations.
Villa Petrolo can be rented in two flexible configurations, depending on group size and requirements.
For up to 17 guests, the rental includes the ground floor and the Piano Nobile (the noble floor), which house the villa’s most elegant and historic rooms.

Apartment for 7 guests:

The villa features two fully equipped kitchens, including a professional stainless-steel catering kitchen ideal for large groups and events, as well as a traditional wood-fired bread and pizza oven in the grounds — perfect for informal outdoor evenings. Guests may dine indoors in the formal dining room, under the shaded pergola, or beneath the stars in the gardens.
A much-appreciated feature of Villa Petrolo is the daily housekeeping service, with 4 hours of domestic help included every day, ensuring a relaxed and well-looked-after stay. On request and subject to availability, private cooks or chefs can be arranged to prepare meals at the villa, from breakfasts and casual lunches to elegant dinners. The service is charged at €18 per hour plus the cost of ingredients and wine (price subject to change), offering a wonderfully authentic and economical way to experience Tuscan cuisine at home.
Beyond the villa itself, guests are immersed in the wider Petrolo estate, with award-winning wines and organic extra virgin olive oil produced on site using low-yield, quality-driven methods. Winery visits and guided tastings can be arranged during your stay, with the opportunity to purchase estate wines and olive oil directly on site. Three small private fishing lakes, woodland walks, and views stretching across Val d’Arno di Sopra complete the experience. A short stroll through the olive groves leads to the picture-perfect parish church of Galatrona, home to Renaissance ceramics by Giovanni della Robbia, while the ancient Tower of Galatrona, with origins dating back to Etruscan and Roman times, dominates the surrounding landscape and lends its name to some of Petrolo’s most celebrated wines.
The estate accommodates guests across six properties in total — the historic Villa Petrolo and five independent farmhouses — hosting up to 79 guests altogether. Villa Petrolo sleeps 33 guests, Bòggina sleeps 9, La Vigna sleeps 10, La Costa sleeps 8, Feriale I sleeps up to 10, and Feriale II sleeps up to 6 guests including the sofa bed. This flexible layout makes Petrolo particularly well suited to large family gatherings, milestone celebrations, weddings, and private events.
A distinctive feature of the estate is its private chapel, where guests may also choose to celebrate weddings and blessing ceremonies in a truly atmospheric and historic setting. All events, guest services, and experiences — including private chef services on request — can be fully organised on site with the support of the experienced and very helpful estate manager, Marco, ensuring a smooth and memorable stay.
Whether rented for 17 guests or the full 33, Villa Petrolo offers a rare opportunity to live like Tuscan nobility, combining historic elegance, generous service, and the pleasures of one of Tuscany’s most respected wine estates — a truly exceptional setting for a very special stay.
Note: Private pool open May 2 - October 3

Leave ReviewDream come true
By Mary Elizabeth Beck on 18-Apr-2025Petrolo is nothing short of a dream come true. My husband and I had the incredible privilege of getting married at Petrolo in June 2023, and the experience was beyond anything we could have imagined. We stayed in the villa for four unforgettable nights with 26 of our closest friends and family, and every moment was pure perfection. One of the highlights of our stay was having Petrolo’s chef prepare dinner for us each evening—a decision I can’t recommend enough. Marco worked with us to create a thoughtfully curated menu that our guests are still raving about. The meals were exquisite and added an extra layer of magic to our time there. It’s safe to say none of us will ever forget the enchantment of Petrolo, and we’re already dreaming of the day we can return. A special shoutout to Marco, who went above and beyond to make our wedding planning seamless. Planning a wedding from the US at a venue we’d never seen in person felt overwhelming at first, but Marco answered every question with care and ensured that every detail was handled to perfection. His dedication and expertise made all the difference, and we can’t thank him enough. I’m sharing some photos from our time at Petrolo because words simply can’t capture its magic. Whether you’re planning a wedding, a family trip, or a getaway with your closest friends, Petrolo is truly the place where dreams are made.
Fairytail holiday
By Mya Cohen on 19-May-2025Everything at Petrolo was a total dream! The location was breathtaking, situated amongst the Tuscan hillside, overlooking the rolling greenery. The house itself was something out of a fairytale with each room beautifully decorated and purposefully thought out. We had the most amazing time here, and cannot recommend it enough. The staff were kind and helpful, and everything was arranged beautifully and smoothly.
Villa Petrolo
By Alexander Storbråten Galankin on 09-Jun-2025Do you want to live in a real movie setting, with great food, wine and service. Come here! We stayed for 4 nights as a group of 20 people. They have everything you need for fun an leasure. Pool, tennis court, basketball hoop, ping pong table. Fantastic breakfast and dinners. Thank you so much Petrolo crew, we will miss you!
A perfect stay
By Mike Famigletti on 24-Aug-2025Everything about this property is perfect! We were a group of 28, ranging in age from 3 to 75, celebrating our 50th anniversary. Our host, Marco, and his staff went above and beyond to make our stay a trip of a lifetime. The grounds are beautiful and the large outside seating area allowed us to take our meals in a breathtaking setting under the Tuscan sun. Chefs Francesca and Laura prepared three dinners for us. A plated dinner of antipasto, homemade ravioli, pork loin and a decadent chocolate cake to celebrate our anniversary and on two other nights pizza prepared in the wood fired oven. Pizzas kept coming to the table until we surrendered! All were delicious. Francesca and Laura also held a cooking class during which we made fresh pasta, focaccia, and tiramisu. They then cooked what we made and served lunch outside under the oak trees. Marvelous! It was unseasonably hot for early June so we were all thankful for the pool which was immaculate. Our rental included daily housekeeping which was quietly and unobtrusively carried out. The house was stocked with excellent Petrolo wines, olive oil, and honey. You simply pay for what you use. And use we did as we cooked some of our dinners and partied late into the night. The location of the villa strikes a nice balance- quietly set among 400 acres of trees and vineyard yet a 15 minute drive to the Bucine train station where you can hop on one of the several trains to Florence. You can also drive to many other Tuscan cities for day trips. We can’t recommend this villa enough. Thank you Marco and staff
Stunning
By S. Ross on 11-Oct-2025Stunning vistas, plenty of room for a group of people. Beds were comfortable, we always had hot water and the heating and fireplace kept us toasty. Beautifully relaxing – we loved every moment of our stay here.
Spectacular view from house
By Rowland M on 04-Apr-2022The really delightful team made us incredibly welcome. We stayed in Villa Costi, the highest up the hill, with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains on the other side of the Val d''Arno. Behind the house is a hillside and forest filled with walking and mountain bike trails, with the ancient Torre de Galatrona perched at the very top. I really hope to back soon
