Description

The Downton Abbey of Tuscany for fine, authentic surroundings! This prestigious wine estate is where former UK prime minister Cameron stayed in 2011 on the edge of lovely Chianti. Jamie Oliver is also known to visit.
Sleep up to 17, or add the optional upper floor and sleep up to 33.

This is a very special villa for a very special holiday experience! It's convenient for trips into Siena and Florence should you be intent on organising your own mini "Grand Tour". You can rent the main part of the grand 17th century villa - the lower floor and the Piano Nobile above - to sleep up to 17 people or you can choose to add the more basic bedrooms on the top floor and sleep up to 33 people. The choice is yours: for 17 guests or up to 33 as you require.

Set in 80 acres of olive groves and vineyards, with its own private park with a small formal garden, an ancient fountain, pristine tennis courts and private swimming pool, Villa Petrolo is deep down "genuine Toscana, with 21st century mod cons. It's a gem, and perfect for that special celebration. It's hardly to be wondered at that this villa has hosted the prime ministers of Britain and France as well as food guru Jamie Oliver. It would be hard to get better references for a holiday home!
As you can see, Villa Petrolo can be rented in two ways: the ground floor and the Piano Nobile (literally the noble floor) upstairs make a fine setting for up to 17 guests, while adding the simpler accommodation on the villa's top floor, means even the largest group, up to 33, fits very comfortably. The top floor accommodation is split into two apartments, one for 7 and the other for 9.
There are two kitchens on the ground floor - a "normal" one and a professional, stainless steel kitchen with all the facilities one could need for serving large groups. There's also an old brick bread oven in the grounds, the perfect focus for an outdoor pizza party. The ever helpful staff in the estate's office have two excellent local ladies on call who will cook for you at any time - one cook for smaller occasions, otherwise the two of them together. From breakfast to informal pizza to light lunches or elegant suppers, you just pay for the ingredients and their time - and you'll find out for yourself that it's not only a wonderfully economical way to live-the-life, it also gives you the kind of authentic Tuscan experience.
The ground floor reception rooms open directly on to the gardens and one can choose to eat under the shady pergola by day, under the stars by night, or in the villa's dining room. There's ample space to find a quiet nook or spend time all together. Between the ballroom upstairs (with its elegant Venetian chandelier), three sitting rooms downstairs and the large games room with pool table, space just isn't an issue. Down by the pool, there's a shady pool house where the fit can enjoy endless ping pong matches if they've had to abandon the tennis courts for the hottest part of the Tuscan day.
Luca Sanjust, Petrolo's owner, produces delicious organic olive oil from the estate's olive groves, but above all, he and his staff make some of the most sensually pleasurable wines in Tuscany. You can take an escorted tour of the estate's ancient olive mill as well as taste your way around the estate's well-stocked wine cellars during your stay. There are also three small, private lakes on the estate if fishing takes your fancy. The picture-book-perfect parish church of Galatrona is just a short stroll through an olive grove (very "Room with a View"!) if you want to check out the fine ceramics of Giovanni della Robbia (1469-1529). Go a little further into the hills and you will come to a local landmark, the ancient stone watch tower of Galatrona, built to dominate the area over 2,000 years ago.

Live like a genuine Tuscan noble; dine on local produce cooked in your own professional kitchen, served by candlelight in your own garden or dining room, accompanied by your own estate's wines. In other words, this really is the Tuscan version of life at Downton Abbey!

Fabulous Tuscan farmhouse

By Experience313524 on 01-Sep-2022

The property is wonderful, it was grape harvesting time so the area was a hive of activity but there is still enormous peace in the farmhouse. The views are fabulous, the pool is excellent and the service was quick and done with style and good sense. Sunrise and sunset magnificent, we saw a wild boar on he grounds, and the house itself has everything you could need. Wifi sturdy enough, showers strong and hot, terraces perfect. We had a meal cooked for us by the property''s chefs and it was fabulous, strongly recommended

The most dreamy week ever

By Nikita on 01-Sep-2022

In September 2022, I was lucky enough to celebrate my wedding at Villa Petrolo. I cannot say enough great things about this villa, Marco, Laura and Team. Villa: The location, views, accommodations and facilities are 10/10. The staff are amazing at always keeping the space clean and beautiful without interfering with any festivities. We opted to have breakfast every morning and what a great decision that was. Laura and her team baked us fresh croissants everyday, there was a different type of cake everyday (that she kindly left out for us to have tea/coffee in the afternoons) and an amazing spread of ham, cheeses, eggs, salads etc. We also asked Laura to cater some dinners for us (one day even asking pretty late in the day and she was kind enough to help us). They set up tables for us in different locations of the villa so we could enjoy all the beautiful views that the villa had to offer. Depending on the type of dinner we were looking for they either had a beautiful Buffett for us or they served us at long beautiful tables. There is a beautiful pool deck with loungers that we spent a few days just enjoying as well as a tennis court. We had 33 guests in Petrolo main house and 10 in Vigna (the other villa on the property) and every guest gushed about the week we spent there being the best holiday they have ever had. Wedding: Marco was amazing with putting us in touch with a Wedding Planner (Pia - from Olive in Tuscany) and I could not recommend Pia more. Coming from England I wasn''t sure about needing a wedding planner or not but Pia helped me with EVERY detail of EVERY day (7 full days) at Petrolo. She helped with transportation of our guests to the villa, food and drinks, tours each day, wine tastings and most importantly every detail of the most beautiful wedding celebration in the gardens of Petrolo. If you are considering Petrolo for your wedding in Tuscany - look no further. We had 76 guests which is quite large for a destination wedding and it was incredible. The bridal suite (where my husband and I stayed all week) has a gorgeous big balcony that looks over the rolling hills of Tuscany. We thank Petrolo and team for the most amazing week of our lives. It was a dream that I wish we could relive everyday.

Absolutely Amazing

By Jessica on 05-Aug-2022

We rented Villa Petrolo for our wedding in May of 2022, and we could not have chosen a more perfect location. Not only was the Villa and the rest of the property absolutely stunning, but Marco, Laura and Francesca and the rest of the staff were amazing. They were so wonderful the entire weekend and made sure that us and our 30 guests were well taken care of. Every meal that we had them organize and cook for us (breakfasts, lunches, pizza party, rehearsal dinner, wedding dinner) was so delicious (some of the best food we had in Italy!!) and the presentation was always perfect. They were also so helpful on the day of the wedding moving furniture and helping to coordinate with the vendors. Our entire wedding weekend turned out perfectly and we truly couldn''t have done it without their help. Petrolo will forever be such a special place to us and we can''t wait to return.

Petrolo

By Cliff L on 03-Jun-2022

Our stay at Petrolo was enchanting. We also rented the smaller Boggina and Costa Villas on the property to easily handle 45 members of our party. The rooms are clean, plenty of bathrooms, lots of sitting areas both inside and on the grounds of the Villa, beautiful views, great clean swimming pools, tennis courts, plenty of hiking trails on the property. It was a perfect venue for our family retreat. And you are on a working winery which has some excellent and top rated wines. Marco, was awesome taking care of our every need, organizing catered dinners and breakfasts. We would return in a nanosecond. Read less

Wonderful wedding week

By Pioneer on 02-Jun-2022

Celebrated our daughter''s wedding at Petrolo. We could not have hoped for a more lovely venue, professional staff and beautiful accommodations. From the moment we checked in to the time we left, Marco and his staff made us feel at home. The staff took amazing care of all of us. The main villa was amazing as was the smaller villa just down the hill from the main villa. Everything about our experience was wonderful. Special shout out to Lara for her wonderful personality and assistance throughout the week. Kudos to Marco for opening the Tower on an off day so we could experience the views of the valley from above. We would recommend Petrolo to anyone. We are eternally grateful for making our daughter''s wedding the dream she imagined.

Relaxing stay at stunning Petrolo

By Rachael on 22-May-2022

Petrolo is a truely stunning property, with a breathtaking main Villa and several beautiful farmhouses. We were lucky enough to stay in Bòggina II which is a charming farmhouse with views over the vineyards. The house has everything we needed including a pool which we enjoyed during our stay. Marco was a wonderful host. Photos don’t do this place justice - we highly recommend Petrolo and will be back with our friends
