We have spent six wonderful weeks at Casa Ferradura, a beautifully designed house in a truly delightful setting. Surrounded by hills and away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts, this is the real Algarve. Though a little remote, this does not prove to be a problem since the pretty village of Santa Caterina has some useful shops and it is not too far from Sao Bras de Alportel - a very traditional and friendly town with all that you could need including supermarkets, a variety of excellent restaurants and a bustling Saturday market which is well worth a visit. Beaches are not far away - Praia do Barril being especially beautiful - and the charming town of Tavira is a must. Above all, we have enjoyed the absolute peace and quiet of the valley in which Casa Ferradura is set. By day just the sound of birds and bees and the wonderful views of the surrounding hills. By night the star-filled skies. A unique and very special place.
We had an amazing short break at Casa Ferradura in early November. The villa is tastefully appointed, creating a authentic rustic atmosphere. Set in olive groves and abundant fruit trees, the villa has an incredible view of the surrounding hills and, the pool with it’s pond surround adds to the sense of being immersed in nature. It’s the perfect place to unwind and feel completely away from it all. There are lovely local villages to explore within a short drive away. A car is essential. We found some great local restaurants and also loved exploring the beaches near Olhao and wandering the lanes of Tavira. I would highly recommend this villa to those that love the countryside and want to experience the best of Portugal.
What a stunning villa with pool in a peaceful location. The house is gorgeous and beautifully furnished with all the equipment needed for eating at the villa and enjoying the surrounding countryside. The house is nestled in a garden full of olive trees and fruit trees, it really does feel like a piece of paradise. We also appreciated having a pool to cool down in and loved the feature of a pond wrapped around it. Would highly recommend this villa. We'll be back!
