Villa Evangelini is an aristocratic 19th Century neo-classical villa which nestles among an acre of private gardens, orchards and olive groves in the exclusive area of Poseidonia on the unspoiled island of Syros in the Cyclades. Broadly featured in the international media (Conde Nast being the most recent), this coral pink house with pale grey shutters sleeps up to 9 guests over 4 bedrooms (3 upstairs and 1 downstairs = all en-suite). The house has been lovingly restored by its owners with antique furniture, original frescoes and vintage carpets and is both stylish and bohemian. The full-size private pool is surrounded by bamboo fencing to add to the feeling of complete seclusion and luxury. In the gardens are 3 additional delightfully Bohemian guest houses with their own facilities - each "house" sleeps two guests and each has an en-suite bathroom. Although gated and very private and secluded, you can walk to a sandy beach, 3 restaurants, a bakery, mini- market and bakery. Our lovely housekeeper is happy to cook for our guests during their stay with us.
The entrance to the house is via a large gate and is walled on all sides making it safe for young children. The large veranda to the front of the house (the BBQ even has an electric roasting spit) is where you will probably dine during the summer months. A path leads to the pool area via the orchard with oranges, lemons, vines, pomegranates, dates and bay trees. The owner makes his own wine and olive oil from “just picked” fruit.
Poseidonia is a small exclusive village of neo-classical mansions and is where the likes of Onassis stayed when they wanted to escape the heat of Athens. The beaches are sandy and never crowded........the capital Ermopouli is the commercial capital of the Cyclades and even has an opera house...........There have been lots of articles on Syros this year as being the perfect Greek island but.........sshhhh - we don't want everybody to know as we are keen to keep it's charm to ourselves.

Lifelong Memories were made here
By John Ferguson on 10-Jan-2023What can I say. Lifelong Memories were made at this wonderful villa which we cannot recommend highly enough. The house was full of history and yet exceptionally comfortable. The host (Dimitris) was incredibly helpful and yet not at all intrusive. Lovely Lali cooked for us which was a great treat. Villa Evangelini sits in the middle of the wonderful, exclusive, village of Poseidonia and although very secluded and private you are only a few minutes walk to restaurants and the beach. The gardens are sublime. Book it - you won't regret it!
I would highly recommend Villa Evangelini for family celebrations
By Craig Cohen on 15-Jun-2022We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Evangalini for a week with our family of 15. We were on Syros to celebrate my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. Right from the beginning Dmitri (the owner) met us at the port and gave us a two-hour tour of his family's estate. He and his wife purchased the property over 30 years ago and painstakingly rebuilt it to both feel historic, and to have all modern the amenities. Each room has its own personal character. We ended up eating every meal together outdoors--dinner on the giant marble table, breakfast in smaller more intimate settings. We spent a lot of time at and in the pool--probably the nicest on the island. The garden is filled with secrets, fruit trees, and plenty of shade for the warm days. Dmitri showed us the short-cut to the beach less than a ten minute walk away. The local neighborhood has many delightful establishments including two bakeries, the farmer who opens his/her shop all morning long with the best tomatoes and cucumbers around, George's the local restaurant we frequented across the street, and a bakery in the next village that had some of the best cake and pastries in Greece. Dmitri was always helpful, and just an all around great host. I would highly recommend Villa Evangalini for family celebrations.
What a fantastic villa!

Lali is an excellent cook and I would highly recommend asking her to cook meals during your stay. The house, pool and gardens are beautiful and extremely well set up for large groups and families.
Truly a Magical Experience for our Family

Lali’s baking each morning and the dinners were deeply appreciated and enjoyed. The house felt like home and has the charm and ambiance we envisaged. The property is an utter gem

This is a house of immense character, an elegant 19th C residence set in a lovely well maintained garden with shady pine trees, vines - a gorgeous pool. We were a group of 10 persons, plenty of space in the house with room to spare - the morning breakfasts or evening drinks under the trees all around the large marble table in the garden are a lasting memory. The proprietor Mr Dimitris is an outstanding host, attentive and very responsive yet not getting in the way. We have re-booked for 2025
We spent an incredible week at Villa Evangelini
By Marcus Goulas on 30-Dec-2024We spent an incredible week at Villa Evangelini. The house and gardens are beautifully maintained and in close proximity to a wealth of beaches and tavernas. There is also an enormous pool heated to the perfect temperature all of which made it a blissful holiday. Not only that, but the owner Dimitri is the most gracious and helpful host you could ask for and the housekeeper Lali a delight. Highly recommended!
