It consists of a spacious lounge with dining area, next to a very modern and well equipped kitchen. There are 2 spacious bedrooms; one en suite and one further bathroom which are all on the same floor. A marble staircase leads up to our extensive roof terrace which is part tiled and part imitation grass and has far reaching views over the ocean and mountains. Our roof terrace is equipped with garden furniture, wind-sensing awning and barbecue, the perfect place for you to enjoy a leisurely meal and drink watching the sunrise and the sunset.

Notes on accommodation: Video controlled entry system to apartment. There are air-conditioning units in the living room and both bedrooms operated by remote control, these convert to heaters during the winter months, there is also a safe in the main bedroom. All the windows have electric shutters. The satellite TV offers limited free channels. Our roof terrace is fully tiled with a large remote controlled awning to provide shade for those really hot days. Outside: The large swimming pool has a raised timber sunbathing area, sun loungers and umbrellas with a children's pool alongside. The private complex is enclosed with fencing and gates, therefore, making it safe. Utility Room: A separate utility room with sink and stone worktops, washing machine/tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: High quality bedlinen and towels are provided. End of stay cleaning is included. If you require further cleaning during a 2 week stay this can be arranged for an extra charge. Other: Our roof terrace is ideal for dining alfresco, sunbathing or just switching off with a good book and a glass of local wine.
Coast/Beach:

The wetlands of the Ria Formosa are a paradise for nature lovers. Tavira Island offers beach cafes, bars, restaurants, long walks and sporting activities. This 4km stretch of white sand remains unspoilt and peaceful. It can be accessed by short ferry crossing from Tavira centre, ferry taxi from Quatro Aguas or miniature railway from Santa Luzia. There are numerous other beaches (5 with prestigious blue flag) to visit in the 24km coastal stretch between Tavira and Monte Gordo.

Travel:

Faro is the nearest airport. There is a wide range of car hire available at very competitive rates. Visitors arriving from Faro airport have an easy 30 min motorway drive to the property. Other options include train, bus and taxi. Private transfers are available through our local agent by prior arrangement (at extra cost). On the motorway Seville is less than 2 hours by car and Lisbon 3 hours. Car hire is recommended but not essential.

Distances:

From the apartment you can walk to the Centre of Tavira in 5 mins along the river Gilao. There are several small fishing villages close to Tavira town - about a ten minute drive away is the lovely village of Santa Lucia-it is the centre of the octopus fishing industry as seen by the heaps of earthenware pots on the quayside. There are numerous fish restaurants where you can choose from the days catch. The Spanish border is only 20-25 mins drive to the East from the property.

Further Details:

Tavira town has many shops, banks, restaurants and bars to choose from and there is a daily market selling fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. There are several supermarkets in the town including Lidl and Aldi. The numerous restaurants cater for all tastes and budgets. There is a mini train or horse-drawn carriage which provide tours of the town and can help you get your bearings - they depart from the riverside near the Roman bridge. To get a 360 degree view of Tavira you can visit the camera obscura which is located in a disused water tower in the centre of the town-not to be missed it gives a real time view of the town.

For those interested in history there is plenty to keep you busy with a walking tour of the town to see the Roman bridge, the castle and the numerous churches.

If you have children with you a visit to a water park is a must and there are several to choose from- Aqua Show, The Big One, Slide and Splash are a few examples, they are all accessed very easily via the A22 in about 30-45mins, it is also possible to take a day trip coach there from Tavira. The Zoo Marine is also worth a visit with dolphin and seal shows as well as water rides and 3 swimming pools to cool off.

Further afield going towards Spain you can visit Vila Real San Antonio, this is a thriving town with an architecturally impressive pedestrian centre laid out like Lisbon's Baixa district. From here you can take boat trips up the Guadiana River. It is the 2nd longest river in Europe at 778km.

The Spanish town of Ayamonte is only 10km away, it can be reached by ferry from Vila Real or via a bridge from Portugal. It has a wonderfully Spanish feel to it and there is a lovely old medieval quarter with narrow streets and cobbled plazas lined with trees, restaurants and bars. When you have finished shopping in the wonderful array of shops relax with a glass of wine and some tapas. Five mins drive from town is the Isla Canela beach popular with wind and kite surfers.

Fabulous apartment

By Joanne on 01-May-2022

Had a great week staying in this apartment with its stunning roof terrace. It is well equipped for all you need when self catering. As long as you don’t mind steps it’s within a short walk into Tavira or drive down as plenty of parking. Tavira is a great place for a holiday, loads of eateries to choose from so something to suit everyone. I would definitely recommend this apartment as the small complex has a great pool and garden to sit in. Always kept immaculate and we hope to return another year. Thank you Ian and Denise for the use of your property.

Great Apartment With Everything You Need And More

By Marie F Buckinghamshire on 15-Jun-2019

This was our first time in Portugal and we picked a marvellous apartment in the most perfect and attractive town. The apartment has bedrooms with very comfortable beds and with lots of storage. The main bedroom has a very big en-suite with bath, shower, basin and bidet . The lounge - diner has plenty of seating and a small balcony overlooking the pool. The kitchen is very well equipped with virtually everything you need and plenty of crockery, ice blocks, hand wash, washing up liquid and so on. The air-con was very efficient and definitely needed. From the apartment there is an internal staircase which leads you to a glorious terrace with 360° views which is equipped with loungers, table and chairs. To get to Tavira is a very easy walk taking about 5 - 10 minutes down quite a lot of steps; if you don't want to do this on the way back a taxi is very reasonably priced at about 5 - 6 euros. The nearest restaurant is Sal no Ponto virtually at the bottom of the steps and serves excellent food. Tavira itself is lovely with loads of restaurants, bars and stalls selling ice cream, cake, honey, jewellery etc.. Thanks to Ian - he was great to deal with and we have already told him that we will be looking at dates to rebook next year.

Perfect Holiday

By Susan M on 05-Sep-2016

Apartment was really well equipped and very clean and spacious. It certainly lived up to the "luxury " claim. It was extremely quiet in the Apartment we never tired of the wonderful views from the roof terrace. The pool is fantastic and just the right size. Our 11yr old grandson was in the pool every day and the poolside areas are great with plenty of space and no fighting for sunbeds ! Tavira has a great atmosphere and although there are 120 steps climbing back to the complex we needed the exercise after all the lovely food we ate each night. All in all a great holiday.
