The villa is a recently restored 600 year old village fortress built on several medieval terraces, each with a spectacular view of the Tuscan valley where it is located. We are 40 minutes from Perugia International Airport near the beautiful towns of Cortona, Perugia, Gubbio, Montone and Citta di Castello, Rome and Florence are 2 1/2 hours away. We are totally private and secluded, yet close to conveniences. The house is spacious and romantic. It is nestled in one of the most beautiful valleys in the area with a 200 degree unspoiled view of forests, hills and trees. It blends Italian antiques, quirky British touches and modern conveniences. La Chimera has 7 bedrooms (excluding owner/staff apartment) 5 with ensuite, and also has a wood cabin that can be added for groups of over 12 that sleeps two with a modest bathroom (ideal for kids or au pair or loners who like to feel they are nature!)
Take a trip to Cortona for evening drinks, shopping in the cobbled streets and dinner, a morning trip to the walled town of Citta di Castello for coffee and shopping in the market for honey, truffles, wines, gifts and olive oil, and a dinner in a small local trattoria. Other trips to make are to small medieval towns nearby for dinner, the mineral baths in a natural hot spring during early summer and autumn months, and if there is a local wine or truffle festival or live music by the lake you will have a night to remember.
If you have small children be aware the pool and deck are “infinity” and are on a steep terrace which they could fall over the edge of. Don’t let them close to the edge! The other terraces have hedges to create barriers but are still dangerous for small children of they venture close to the edge.
Our view is spectacular - a beautiful valley full of truffle oaks, green trees and sweeping hills. Fireflies light up the velvet darkness, frogs gently chirp in the nearby lake, and guests can enjoy a glass of red under the stars or take a midnight dip. Massage can be arranged, swimming, lazing by the pool, yoga deck, trips to the small local towns or spectacular views.
Enjoy the pool, a terrace with a sunken fire pit for night time fire talks (not in summer it is illegal to light it) an infinity deck with a breathtaking view for meditation or evening yoga, dinner on the lovely terrace, and sunset views and drinks. Terrace - YOGA Main covered yoga deck fully equipped with mats, blocks and straps holds 25 people. Infinity deck – open, for meditation, lectures or yoga.
ROOM INFORMATION - The following is a guide to help you plan your room plan and get an overview of the rooms:
BEDROOMS (La Chimera) GROUPS OF UP TO 12
7 beautiful bedrooms in utter tranquility (4 with ensuite, 5 if you include the cabina, and a large communal bathroom on the ground floor) All the double bedrooms are large, light and beautifully decorated with spectacular views of the valley, wooden shutters, and a mixture of double and/or twin beds. Please let us know a minimum of a week in advance how many single and double beds you need so we can prepare them.
Mama’s Room 2 beds, ensuite with shower. Ist floor.
Green Room: 2 beds with ensuite (possible to change to a King bed or to add 1 single to make a triple share. 1st floor.
Rawhide: 2 singles, can be made into a King. No ensuite, but has own private entrance and little terrace. Can connect with Meditation room to make a family area. 1st floor.
Birdland: King. Can add single as well for a non couple. Ensuite. Can share ensuite with The Gods if a single needed in The Gods. The Gods adjoins so perfect to create a family area or 2 bed “apartment.” Top floor.
Holy Cow: King size bed with large ensuite and large bathroom with shower, terrace and views of the valley. Ist floor terrace.
Meditation Room: Single bed, not ensuite, very small, own private entrance. Often used for tutor or chef. Or for someone who wants a single. It opens into Rawhide, so can create a triple room for friends or a couple with a child. 1st floor terrace.
The Gods: Single bed, not ensuite, but can share Birdland bathroom usually if the sex of inhabitants the same! Otherwise uses house bathroom. This room has a curtain that draws across it as the 4th wall, and only the people in Birdland would walk past the curtain to get to their room so it is quite private. Great option for someone who wants a single room or for friend/child of those in Birdland. Top floor.
Shared house bathroom (Rawhide and Meditation Room) shower, bidet, sink. Ground floor.
Cabina - sleeps 2 in singles. Used for staff. Rustic. Has ensuite. Not normally opened unless needed or pre booked for large groups of more than 12. Additional charges may apply.
