"Friends of Tuscany Ltd." manage all aspects of your villa booking with tailored information to get the most from your holiday. We can help to arrange a shopping delivery service, home made meal on arrival, wine tours, children’s activities, wild swimming spots, festivals, events, and restaurant recommendations based on our personal knowledge of the area built up over 30 years. The ancient 16th-century stone Villa Massa stands in panoramic position in the beautiful area of Tuscany known as the Garfagnana, between Lucca and Versilia. It features a private swimming pool, stunning covered terrace and small garden. Free Wi-fi is available in the house.
The villa has been finely renovated respecting its original style and using traditional materials, such as terracotta tiles, stone and wood. It is furnished in period style and with great attention and care to details.
Standing in Massa Sassoroso (850 m above sea level), a typical village of Garfagnana on the side of the Pania di Corfino and close to the Parco Naturale dell`Orecchiella (Orecchiella Natural Park), the villa is the ideal destination for relaxing holidays and at the same time an excellent starting point for visiting cities of art such as Pisa, Lucca and Florence or for spending a day at the sea (56 kilometres away), on the fashionable Versilia Riviera. Massasasoroso is a typical medieval village with winding alleys. It is the heritage village of Astor Piazzolla, the world famous composer of classic tango music, and tango can be enjoyed at some of the local dances.
The nearest restaurant to the villa is just under 3KM away and there is a little shop/bar with good coffee in the village. It is the heritage village of the famous Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzoli. There are many restaurants within a 10 minute drive and a well stocked mini market shop 3KM away.
The villa features a private swimming pool (7.5 x 5.5 m), and a large furnished balcony covered with an arched loggia.
Castelnuovo, the nearby market town, has many excellent restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and all other types of shops. There is a tourist information office and a weekly market selling a wide variety of fashion, household goods, flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Garfagnana is 'Hidden Tuscany' at its best. With its' stunning scenery it is the best area in Tuscany for walking and outdoor activities. Leave ReviewAuthentic Tuscany
By Joost on 25-Jul-2025Fantastic. If you're looking for authenticity, this is the most authentic Tuscany. The place is high in the mountains in a very small hamlet. Due to the closure of the main road because of work, it was an experience to get there, but great. Perfect reception, super spacious and beautiful
lovely setting
By Pauline H on 27-Jun-2025We had a wonderful holiday in this incredibly charming house with a fantastic view! We visited several villages in the area. The owner was very friendly and immediately resolved a few practical issues. Unfortunately, we didn't find any restaurants within walking distance. There was a small bar in the village where you could get a cup of coffee and bread in the morning. The zipline at Lake Vagli was closed/no longer existed. That was a shame. All in all, we had a wonderful week in a fairytale setting.
Beautiful stay
By Luca Sophie on 23-Aug-2025The stay at the villa was beautiful. The house looks exactly like the pictures and is located in a very nice village. The kitchen is very well equipped and communication with Giulia was also great. The journey was not so easy due to construction work, but Giulia helped us here as well. The house is very quiet and secluded.
Beautiful region
By Lieven on 23-Aug-2025We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful rustic home with a beautiful view of the mountains. Very good reception. There is a lot of information available to visit the region. Great!
Authentic house
By Finette on 04-Aug-2024Lovely, authentic house. The view of the Apennines is breathtaking, also from the nice swimming pool. The house consists of 3 floors and you live on the middle one. That's why everyone had privacy, and an en-suite bathroom. It was wonderful to spend time on the two loggias. Because you're high, there's often a lovely breeze. What was also nice is that there is no silent "art" on the wall, but beautiful authentic things that fit the house. Everything is really nice. We have enjoyed and never wanted to leave:)
Great pool
By Erkki on 09-Jul-2024Car is needed and be prepared for narrow roads. Basic needs like toilette papers, shower gels and dishwasher detergent missing or not enough. In villa is gas heating, but we got impression to avoid using it. Villa was quite cold in the beginning ofJune, so we used heating anyway. Nice view, lovely villages and neighbors. Pool is great as well. Nice looking villa and plenty of room for 8 persons.
