Overview
Description
"Friends of Tuscany Ltd." manage all aspects of your villa booking with tailored information to get the most from your holiday. We can help to arrange a shopping delivery service, home made meal on arrival, wine tours, children’s activities, wild swimming spots, festivals, events, and restaurant recommendations based on our personal knowledge of the area built up over 30 years. The ancient 16th-century stone Villa Massa stands in panoramic position in the beautiful area of Tuscany known as the Garfagnana, between Lucca and Versilia. It features a private swimming pool, stunning covered terrace and small garden. Free Wi-fi is available in the house.
The villa has been finely renovated respecting its original style and using traditional materials, such as terracotta tiles, stone and wood. It is furnished in period style and with great attention and care to details.
Standing in Massa Sassoroso (850 m above sea level), a typical village of Garfagnana on the side of the Pania di Corfino and close to the Parco Naturale dell`Orecchiella (Orecchiella Natural Park), the villa is the ideal destination for relaxing holidays and at the same time an excellent starting point for visiting cities of art such as Pisa, Lucca and Florence or for spending a day at the sea (56 kilometres away), on the fashionable Versilia Riviera. Massasasoroso is a typical medieval village with winding alleys. It is the heritage village of Astor Piazzolla, the world famous composer of classic tango music, and tango can be enjoyed at some of the local dances.
The villa features a private swimming pool (7.5 x 5.5 m), and a large furnished balcony covered with an arched loggia.
Castelnuovo, the nearby market town, has many excellent restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and all other types of shops. There is a tourist information office and a weekly market selling a wide variety of fashion, household goods, flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Garfagnana is 'Hidden Tuscany' at its best. With its' stunning scenery it is the best area in Tuscany for walking and outdoor activities. Friends of Tuscany are the oldest agency in the area, and we have close ties with an Outdoor Activities company who offer many international class adventures. We can also help you access Art classes with a well known artist, excursions to the Cinque Terre, Florence and Lucca, visits to vineyards, historical guided tours and Italian cooking lessons.

Leave ReviewEverything was great
By Alke on 19-Sep-2024Everything was great. The view is one of a kind! The surroundings are great. You just have to note that you rent a good car, as the journey is challenging through the mountains. It's an old house, you can tell. That's why you shouldn't have a problem with insects. The tips for the area were great. Thank you so much!"
Beautful
By Laura on 13-Sep-2024The place was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Unfortunately, a fee of €30 per parking space was charged for the designated free parking spaces on the property. No problem in itself, but should then also be specified. Otherwise everything was wonderful and the contact was extremely friendly and available for any inquiries.
Authentic house
By Finette on 04-Aug-2024Lovely, authentic house. The view of the Apennines is breathtaking, also from the nice swimming pool. The house consists of 3 floors and you live on the middle one. That's why everyone had privacy, and an en-suite bathroom. It was wonderful to spend time on the two loggias. Because you're high, there's often a lovely breeze. What was also nice is that there is no silent "art" on the wall, but beautiful authentic things that fit the house. Everything is really nice. We have enjoyed and never wanted to leave:)
Great pool
By Erkki on 09-Jul-2024Car is needed and be prepared for narrow roads. Basic needs like toilette papers, shower gels and dishwasher detergent missing or not enough. In villa is gas heating, but we got impression to avoid using it. Villa was quite cold in the beginning ofJune, so we used heating anyway. Nice view, lovely villages and neighbors. Pool is great as well. Nice looking villa and plenty of room for 8 persons.

Beautiful remote house
By Danny S on 30-Aug-2022Beautiful and spacious house, with beautiful verandas and views. House is equipped with all facilities including a large private swimming pool. It is somewhat remote and parking is a thing. You can load and unload at the house, but parking is not. Style is very tasteful and charming, but some maintenance wouldn''t hurt.
